19 Officers Delayed Entering School During Mass Shooting

  • Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, says law enforcement should have gone right into the classroom where a gunman slaughtered teachers and children. Nineteen officers were actually outside the classroom where the shooter was barricaded, but did not immediately try to breach the door. With that stunning admission, he says he doesn’t know how many children died because of that delay. Law enforcement experts are calling it an “abject failure.”

I saw an interview with a child who was devastated when she learned the cops were outside for over an hour and didn't come in to save her and her friends.
This is something that can never be made right. I am glad the Sheriff admitted their guilt. He sounded like he was blaming other people in an earlier interview. I imagine he will retire. @ihaventchosenanameyet Reforming the police doesn't mean abolishing them (unless you're one of the people who straight up believes that). It means better training beyond a mere 8 weeks of police academy, which is the only thing that is required by every single state in the Union, and making cops able to be held accountable by the public for chronic or extreme misuse of power or for ineptitude.

This is what happens when you call for defending the police

You standby if there's a hostage situation. You don't wait if the hostile has already acted. Your job is to eliminate the threat immediately.

This couldn't be handled any worse than it was and I feel so much hurt for those children, teachers and the parents of the children killed. Law enforcement failed those victims

Those officers had one job: protect the public. And could not even do that. How atrocious.

this disgusts me. . as a police officer you’re supposed to protect and serve, situations like this won’t deescalate if you’re just sitting around waiting for it to be over.

LOL, I was just pulled over for having the lightest tint possible on my car, I have a tint because of sun ray (I drive a lot 6-7 hours), maybe they should focus their energy into more bigger issues than a light tint on a window (yes you can see right through, not a dark tint). prob. too busy writing tint tickets.

@ihaventchosenanameyet why dont you think they should have focused their energy into defending the children?

In the academy we were trained to go in right away with your ar-15 if there is an active shooter. So I have no idea why they just sat around they should be ashamed.

In this situation, don’t think, don’t wait for orders and just act accordingly to the situation. I find it is so applicable today even in everyday life that I find orders and directions from seniors a bit pointless especially in a dangerous situation.

Yeah, I bet that would totally fly if a suspect told him that
