    One of my skinny pigs had an eye injury a while ago. One day i went to check on all of my piggies and i saw a blue cloudy thing in her eye. I took her out of the cage and looked everywhere in her eye for hay or anything else that could of gotten into her eye, and i saw nothing. So the next 2 days i took her into my vet and the vet did not see anything in her eye. The vet said she could of scratched her eye or something got stuck in her eye and managed to get out. The vet gave me eye drops to put into her eye twice a day for a week. Her eye cleared up very quickly which was great. Some of my piggies had gotten very mushy poop and left calcium on the fleece when they peed. I decided to try to feed them less veggies everyday and give them veggies that didn't have a lot of calcium, that worked a little but not intirely. I also tried to just give my piggies veggies every other day and of course feed them less veggies with calcium, that worked wonders. I'm planning on switching to sherwood pellets too. That would hopefully completely balance out their diet, but we'll see. Btw Great video! Your piggies are just gorgeous!

I use a small broom and dust pan to clean most of my cage but If I find a stray poo in the corner I just pick it up. The animal emergency clinic tried everywhere to no avail. Cupcake was in extreme pain and therefore had to make the decision to euthanize her. I also purchased the urinary tablets but my girls won't take it so I crush some and crushed some Sherwood pellets then add a little water with a little liquid vit C and add the mix in their pellet food dish in the morning and that worked. I am hopeful this is going to help for my eldest girl which is Cupcake sister named Muffin is 6 yrs old and the others are 5 yrs with the youngest is 4yrs/10 mths.

    • @LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue
      @LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue 5 лет назад

      Like Abby said, not feeding pellets is not the answer but that said I do believe that guinea pigs will do ok if pellets are not fed. I believe that the filler ingredients in most pellets foods are what causes a lot of health problems. Corn, Wheat, soy etc.

    • @jessicamoffatt7477
      @jessicamoffatt7477 5 лет назад

      @@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue yeah it is a tough balancing act..especially when housing them inside where they don't get proper sunlight and Vitamin D. I think this might be part of the missing piece because Vitamin D allows calcium absorption...so if they aren't getting enough of that then that's an issue too. I also think genetics play a large role as I have noticed the gritty sludge in a few of my pigs even when Im making sure to balance it all out. Also being aware of the calcium:phosphorus ratio (2:1) when feeding all pets is wise and not many people pay attention to that. I wish out here in Canada there was more interest for vets to study "exotics" and their requirements. The UK seems far more advanced in rodents and reptiles.

    This is the third time I'm watching this!! Lol, why, why do you keep calling Pecan tubby? You gave her a complex Abby, I know it, that's why she was off in the corner, lol! I'm joking, but I had this on last night while cage cleaning, twice, then I'm watching it now. Binging, I call it! I must get some fleece drapes and make hides with the grids, I use corner curtains, but I want 3 grid wide hides, the way you have it. I actually had 3 eye injuries in the last 2 months, and my Velvet had the exact same thing, tucked under in the corner of her eye. I kept rinsing it with saline solution and using the Visine triple care eye drops, I thought it might move and I could get it, but no, I had immediately called the vet, and had to take her in, 217.00$ later, she was fine. I do have some eye drops left, because my vet gave me both an anti inflammatory and antibiotic drop. She really didn't even need the inflammatory ones, but I did it for 6 days anyway, and a bit more for the antibiotics, although she was fine as soon as it was out. I started using MMS Hayloft hay again, it's now free shipping, and on Amazon as well, but I know that had a part in the hay problem, so now when I fill my bucket I grab the ends of the stalks and break them all, so no sharp edges on the hay, Oh, it makes me want to cringe to think of them getting poked with that, but Velvet really had a piece of a seed head stuck, that's what it was, lol! Abby just out of curiosity - did the vet ever suggested a Fecal Transplant for the piggy with digestive issues? It’s so sad to see she does not get any veggies. If she could at least get a little piece of pealed cucumber (after the transplant) ... it’s mainly water and mineral salts and it’s the best treat according to my piggies 😊 - they are completely nuts about it!

      Her problem with veggies is they do not digest properly, when they are breaking down they are giving off bad gasses, which causes her to bloat. She is perfectly fine without veggies, functions normally.

    I like this video but couldn't finish watching. The video movements give me nausea and motion sickness. I can only watch videos where the camera is fairly steady and mostly stays in one place.
