"I must warn you though, if you do use percussion on your acoustic guitar there is a danger that you might seriously impress the people that are listening" Hah! Love it. great videos man.
Hey Gareth! since it's the Teacher's Day here in India (september 5th), I thought maybe I should thank you for uploading such great videos for people like me to learn to play the guitar. Thank you for you efforts! You teach it real good!
I have been trying to figure out how to do this correctly for a while now. Thanks to you I can now do it. I can't thank you more. Actually I can thank you more. I will be sending you some $$ for the winter solstice holiday. You are a big reason my guitar playing has improved lately. Thanks again, so much!
I'm usually too impatient to listen to guitar tutorials on youtube because they involve way too much talking but little practicing.. but you made a perfect tutorial which makes me concentrate and eager to follow it to the end. Thank you so much!
Gareth, love your lessons. They are truly inspiring. I decided that sitting round playing the PlayStation is not a productive use of my spare time, so I sold it on Friday, bought a new guitar yesterday, and am now determined to work through your tutorials (half way through Wonderful Tonight, and its going well). My new found love of the guitar is down to you and your vids, so thank you so much.
whoa. This is like super great lesson. Extremely well organized and executed. I'm an advanced beginner, following lot of YT instructors, and this is one of the best efforts. Thank you.
A BIG thank you for sharing this video with folks like me who are after 40s and just try to learn how to play guitar. Your explanation is at a nice pace and more importantly clear. That makes learning enjoyable and so easy to follow through the exercises.
this is exactly what i've been looking for you explain the slap perfectly! better than anyone, can't wait to finish the series and master this techniqe! thankyou!
I subscribed to your channel years ago whenI first started playing, and came across your thumb slapping technique.I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your talent with me man. You’ve inspired Garett, and I am sure there are others you have inspired as well. God bless you brother. Keep creating,
rock on dude, i usually have to force myself to endure u-toob lessons, but yours are to the point. u speak clearly, dont repeat urself, multiple windows to allow visual comparison, and u keep the info u teach in order, instead of bouncing around confusingly. keep it up bro, i am impressed and relieved with your sharing of knowledge. Thank You! may your generosity find its way back to u, and may ur students never forget their teachings. best of luck to u friend
I know its been years since this has been posted but thank you for keeping it up! I just finished part 1 and will practice a bit more before moving onto part 2. I love this style of playing and I can actually understand your explanations which is amazing! lol. I look forward to learning more - thank you!! :)
The best tutorial there is on slap technique. Other just tell u to do this and that But your lessons are well organized it begins with the basics then the degree of difficulty gradually increases as the lesson progresses. The approach is clinical. Thanks a lot. All the best. Hope there wiill be more of this kind or manner of teaching.
great lesson man! Been playing guitar for amost 14 years and ive just now started trying to get this technique down. best lesson on this ive seen so far on youtube. Thank you for the help man
You are a phenominal guitarist and I really appreciate you doing these technique tutorials for some of the newer guitarists to get up to speed. I personally didn't need this video, but it's always good to learn new exercises. However, watching this video made me think of getting back down to the basic roots of guitar. I was thinking (just a thoughtful suggestion), maybe you could start talking a little more about music theory in future videos? Not neccessarily half hour lectures on the subject.. but more like a scale of the day kind of series at the end of each video? Or maybe talk a little more about chord structure? I'm not sure if you read all of these comments, but it was just a little for thought. Thank You, Gareth!
Thanks Bro...... I am Really interesting with your tutorial so that each times I visit to your channel for practice play fingerstyle guitar....I will wait your others tutorials, Respect to you and may My Lord Bless You
Hello sir, great video thanks for putting out a free lesson. If you could, what is the song at the beginning of your video? I would like to learn it as a great song to practice percussion
hey dude, your video's are great, and exercises like these are so useful for beginner players like myself. please keep up the great content as you're a huge help and a very thorough well thought out tutorial maker !:)
Hey, Just to know one thing, when we are plucking A string, do we need to slap that A string, or slap E string, or both? Edit: Loved it, will follow your other tutorials now♥
Hi gareth, thanks alot for your awesome guitar lessons. I'm better guitar player than I was its all because of you.thnxx again.. gareth, is it okey if you slap on 6 including of 5 and 4 means low E, A And D??
I played a lot of slap bass before I moved over to acoustic guitar so the slap technique feels natural to me. The problem I'm having is that my slaps are producing a 'slightly muted but audible sound.' How do you go about slapping the strings while not muting with your freting hand?
Garth - this the best percussive slap lessons on YT all the others are unstructured and create a lot of frustration How can i make a donation and access the tabs for this series? thx again
Awesome lesson. I quickly realized I had been trying trying to use way too much force! Much better now. Will you eventually take these lessons to the level of the intro piece for this video? I'd love to see that one.
Hi thank you for the tutorial. I've got one question though, I normally use my pinky finger as a pivot when I fingerpick so when Im thumb slapping is it okay for me to leave my pinky on the guitar or is it best if I take it off when I thumb slap? Thanks
YES, thank you for going through this technique thoroughly, I've really been struggling with learning this slap... And side note, I did not expect you to say "seriously impress your friends", made me smile :3
I'm a lefty guitar player and I haven't switched the strings, so I pretty much always had to figure out how to do things by myself (I'm a bit above begginer), but this is quite hard and I haven't found a comfortable way to do it yet. Any advice? By the way I play the base string with my fourth finger (ring finger, or however it's called in english). PS: Your tutorials are amazing!
"I must warn you though, if you do use percussion on your acoustic guitar there is a danger that you might seriously impress the people that are listening"
