Aren't they already? If any Tory had any integrity, wouldn't they immediately have punished Johnson for spitting in the face of the british public by partying when he instated rules whereby people couldn't even visit their dying family?
I See it as you fear it; they have seen what opportunistic and immoral reign can achieve, and they have positioned themselves under these conditions instead of doing the right thing and axing Johnson, nay, never letting him hold power. Remember that it is an institution which allowed him to be what he was, and protected him far beyond what is decent. This is _definitely_ an institutional problem.

Of course they are. The clown might have left the stage but the circus is still in town. The rest of the Tories don't get to wash their hands of the mess they helped create just because they finally got tired of him.

And here, the anti-Democratic forces are still largely in control and wreaking havoc on all standards of civility, rational thought, and even the concept of reality. It is terrifying. "Couldn't believe my own eyes"
Doublethink is a process of indoctrination in which subjects are expected to simultaneously accept two conflicting beliefs as truth, often at odds with *their own memory or sense of reality*.
"To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself-that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word-doublethink-involved the use of doublethink."

We will struggle along with our ideas of exceptionalism, and with the sheep of our electorate bleating on with the belief that we will always come out on top, and we will gradually take our place outside Europe, outside the G7, with a shrunken economy and a nasty, hatred filled media that will still be blaming immigrants and those who wanted to be part of a wider Europe. Where are the statesmen who can take charge? They don't exist, and because of that I feel utterly hopeless for the future and it hurts me to say that the last vestiges of pride in my country have now been carried off by the crooked spineless people in power today.
