Your shocks for your door need to be moved in word more to where the black part is about a half inch inside the cabin. They’re closing all the way but they are not pivoting downward to allow the wall to close all the way.

Adam is right on point here. It’s not the shocks it’s the placement. They are compacting straight inward and can’t rotate as they should. Do some research on where they need to be placed and they will work. Great video! ❤️

Yep came to say the same. Think about how long the shocks are when compressed. That's how far apart the mounts need to be when the wall is closed. Same as on a truck cap etc. The way you had it the shock would have to compress to be 1 inch long which is impossible and why it kept breaking off. 👍

Thank you for keeping it real. It's very refreshing in "RUclips Land" to see someone not afraid to show their mistakes. It is so much nicer to watch than the channels that make everything seem perfect, like they never have a care in the world. One cannot live up to those perfect expectations, therefore, they are depressing to watch. I just love your little cabin, thank you so much for sharing it with all of us. Stay safe & well. Sending love & light to all~ ❤️🌈 ❤️ Edit- your typewriter brought back so much nostalgia to me. My grandfather had one almost identical. We were penpals for many years after my grandmother passed. He would type me such beautiful letters. I will always treasure them (& him, although he's been gone for many years now). xo

Those gas assisted struts need to be fully closed and in a 'locked' position to be installed correctly. From the factory, these types of supports are sent sealed and in a compressed ( not extended ) position. Door to be shut and tightly closed, then the struts are attached to your framing and to your door. After attaching same , slowly open door and release the ' keeper' that has been holding the strut closed, while you are pushing open the door for the first time. This should do it for an initial installation. If the door does not fully open as you would like , then longer struts may have to be used. The ones you have now might not give you the desired amount of ' opening ' in the door as you once had, using only the wood pole for your prop. Bill S.

Hey Brooke, for that hinged wall, consider a garage door spring system rated for that weight. They're not as cheap as gas struts but not terrible in price. Wind it reverse of a garage door. Instead of pulling a door up causing the cable to spool in. your wall would move out causing the cable to spool out as well. You can counter wind that wall with a spring to the point where you can open the wall with two fingers. Along the same manner, mount a handle on both sides and have a frame to frame latch to keep it from opening unintentionally. I think the gas struts are too short for that wall. Typically to achieve mechanical advantage they'd need to be about half the length of the wall, the base mounted all the way up on the frame and the piston mounted at the location of the wall with it shut. I think they're as strong as they should be and you're running into binding because the uncompressed angle is too drastic. Source: Former Transam owner who hates gas struts 🙂

Adam Nitro got it perfect when he mentioned the pivoting action. The way you mounted the struts they push directly against the door at a 90 degree angle. You need the struts to move away from the door as it closes. Watch a hatch back vehicle door close that has struts, you will probably say "of course" The principle is simple once you see it. God bless.😃

Thank you so much for this video, Brooke, especially for the prayers you included us in. I need those right now. So much fun to watch Moose explore and enjoy! I think I notice that he has learned from Maisey to keep an eye and nose out to protect you, too. The door is surely disappointing, but you did your best. Maybe you need a larger, stronger hydraulic system? No matter. I know you will figure it out just fine. May God bless and keep you! Patricia

I watched a video where someone had the same problem trying to figure out the proper placement of her gas shocks for her trailer hatch. She had bigger ones tho. Maybe you should consider heavier duty ones beside trying to figure out where to place them.

Love love love your channel. You are my hero. As for forgetting about the rope, so what. I’ve done much goofier things. As for the lift shocks, you need to close the “door” on the A Frame, then WITH THE SHOCKS COLLAPSED, figure out where they will go. You definitely want the big door to close completely, but you may be flexible on how much lift they can provide. You may need longer shocks, but you may be satisfied with the amount of “Open (lift) they can provide. Hope this helps.

Oh my stars!!! Please don't be offended when I say I was laughing at loud during this episode!!! The whole rope thing made my day! I thought I was the only one that would do something like that!! My favorite thing is that you could have cut it out and never admitted to it, but you didn't! Makes you human!!! You have to laugh at yourself. Like when I was camping and dropped my phone in my loo. Ya....AFTER I cried because I was so mad at myself, I laughed and tell the story! WHAT A STORY! Thanks Brooke!

That steak with mushrooms and onions had me practically salivating! I so enjoy your adventures. I retired last August 2021, that with my wife of 21+ years of marriage passing to heaven with respiratory issues and finally diagnosed with Covid in 2020, there now is much more time available to sit back and relax, watching your RUclips entries. The outdoors that God provides bring special comfort to life these days and at 64 your excursions still allow me to travel along in the slower pace of retirement. You motivate me to once again to break out the tent again. But as I have learned now alone, the joys of simple pleasures have lost much of their luster without my spouse by my side to love. Lately the heat in the south has been way too much in Alabama but we know cooler days in later months are ahead which I'm looking forward to. Maybe I can seek out the peaceful tranquility of a forest soon.
I too have been known to fragrance the woods cooking a mean steak with bell peppers and onions and a side order of baked potato. Thank you so much for your videos, inviting love of the outdoors, simple prayers for tasty morsels and a thankful heart for God's amazing creation of nature. Your videos are something of great value which are very rare these days. God's speed and safety to you and yours throughout your future journeys ahead.
P.S. I also enjoyed the series ALONE with you as well as your husband. Your adventures allow people to travel along and that is truly a gift to give. What a great purpose you have to serve!
    Happy Trails my friend!
