This was the second detector from Garrett where all you had to do was attach the coil. My Axiom was the first. I prefer Garrett's horizontal screens to Minelab and Nokta's verticle. These are not so top-heavy when lying on the ground. Thanks for keeping it drama-free! Love the channel!!!
Hi my friend, I've had my Vortex in the U.K. for a couple of weeks now. Please remember to update your machine to software version 2.05 from the Garrett website. This is initially dealing with some of the VDI number discrepancies, charging and power off issues and is somewhat of an improvement from factory release. Im sure as time goes by, further updates will have our machines at optimal performance.
Here's the thing Mike. There are metal detectorists and people who simply own and swing them. The hobby has attracted a large nucleus of 'pack mentality' people. With them comes brand-bias and priviledged invasiveness. Bona fide metal detectorists aren't like them, nor do we suffer brand-bias, "amnesia", or perceived obsolescence syndrome. Nokta and Rutus had issues initially, with Legend and Versa, respectively. The drama queens packed and spat vitriol. Legend and Versa's "teething" gliches have been remedied and both machines are sound. Vortex, too, will come under fire, but with good liason, between bona fide testers and Garrett, this machine ought also to turn out sound: in my opinion.
Those brands were fixed because of the videos that were criticizing them. Garrett better hope they accept the criticism they're getting from the guys making videos because they need to make a better machine. That's all there is to it they need to compete I want them to compete they're an American company and I want them to survive but all of you yes men are not helping them at all. Products need to be criticized whether you guys like to see the videos or not if a company puts out a product no matter what it is like Toyota trucks look at all the engines locking up on them they're being sued by everybody they're having a recall and they're replacing like last count was like 125,000 drivetrains on the 22 and 23 model trucks and now 24 model trucks are having similar issues So what you're saying is because this machine's only $600 nobody should criticize it? But if you spend $60,000 then yes then you're allowed to criticize them? If a company puts out a faulty piece of equipment I appreciate the videos of people passionately upset about it and bringing it to the public's attention so people don't waste their money on it. That is not our problem that's Garrett's problem. So nobody anymore is really brand loyal at least of the people I've been detecting with for 45 plus years we buy what's working and really Minelab and Nokta and XP are about it these days. Unless you want to beginners detector.
People are upset about this detector for good reasons.. it detects some metal yes, but does not come close to performing the was it was being promoted as. Garrett is taking people's hard earned money for a defective unit. People see it as bad business because we all know they released it due to Christmas, before it was ready. That's crappy business. It's only a metal detector, but it's only $600 people are throwing in the trash.
and you my friend have an opposing thumb and can decide whether or not to buy the metal detector. There are plenty of options out there so just go buy another one based on your own research. As far as marketing, let me remind you of the marketing nightmare Minelab did with the Manticore and the Nox 900. That was fun.. My point is that they all do it around this time of year. Garrett is no different here than any of the others.
@MentalMetal marketing nightmares happen with too many products to count. I'm talking an actual faulty metal detector. It simply doesn't work as it was intended.
It will be nice to see some honest input on it. I honestly think it is going to be a good machine that will be easy to start out with. It may not compete with the top detectors but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a good machine.
If you think you could add some positive insight about this machine , please enlighten us to it. All I have mostly seen from this unit, and not just from Calabash, has been the need for some serious update action. What I do know is that they sell it at its price point and it has zero extras that units a hundred or so dollars cheaper, has as standard equipment. Combine that and the fact that it doesn’t perform as well as those cheaper units, and you can plainly see all the shortcomings of it. Maybe they will address and fix them but until then, I have no choice but to not purchase one.
We'll see, I'm no miracle worker. It will be up to Garrett. They have a chance. I really want to like the machine. It feels good and the update went smooth but I see some of downsides.

Calabash has soiled himself over this detector. Making a whole seasons worth of videos crapping on this machine.
yes and his right about every thing he says.the vortex needs a lot of work.i wouldn.t waste my money on it yet.

And the Calabash Cult marches on. The guy is a noboby, in proper metal detecting circles.
