Congratulations 🎉. It’s going to be wonderful and it will be all yours! My marriage of twenty years ended very suddenly and left me with 4 kids between 7 and 15. I hadn’t worked since before I was married . That was over 20 years ago and of course the kids are grown up. I have a good life and you will too. Be kind to yourself.

Well done Nichola, its an empty house it will be cold. You have options the house seems to be in good order. The radiator's are single so they won't throw a lot of heat, you have options. You can always get the taps changed on the main bath so it has a handheld shower attachment. Remember not to get carried away ( easier said than done ). Have fun.

Regarding decorating; Paint the doors and skirting first, if your not good with gloss paint, go for a satin wood or egg shell.
When it comes to the walls works out cheaper to stay neutral, same colour in most areas just make sure it's a good quality paint. Another trick is to paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls ( you don't have to worry about cutting in and straight lines.
When you do start to paint, sometimes easier to use a small roller, not so hard on the arms also use a decent quality paint brush, you'll get less bristle loss on the brush. Have fun, you will get so much satisfaction once you see things done.

I moved into a house that was stuck in the 1970s back in 2002. It needed a lot of work, and I lived there while I was working on it. Yours has great potential. There were some things I couldn't afford, so I hired a sander and sanded and varnished the floors to make them nice and warm underfoot. Insulation is a big deal, and I got some grants towards that. The kitchen was a total timewarp, there were 2 sockets and the old lady kindly left me her twin tub washing machine. There was one draw. It took a lot of doing, saving and doing things as they became affordable.
One thing for which you might be grateful, you didn't inherit a brown bathroom suite, yes brown! Whoever thought that was a good idea? Ripping out the toilet carpet and getting some lino down were a priority (carpet in a toilet!!!). Eventually, I got the bathroom and toilet knocked into one and a nice white suite fitted.
You will get there, it will take time, but you are a sensible woman with your head screwed on and your feet on the ground, so I know you will be budgeting sensibly for this and will make a beautiful, safe home for you and your boys.

Brillant news Nicola and many congratulations.
As for decorating, by putting the effort into preparing the walls and woodwork, it means that the painting part is much easier. Its a hassle but worth it.
In the past we have had the odd decorating party, where we have got friends and relatives to help out over a weekend. Then when everything was finished we cooked a special meal for them as a thankyou.
Great that the boys are so engaged with it too.x

Hi Nicola, really pleased to hear this update. I know photographers and videos can be deceiving but your wood flooring looks to be in good condition. I’ve known folk paint or varnish their floors and then use good quality rugs to add additional warmth. IKEA do really great kitchens they are ‘free standing’ so they can accommodate various room configurations. Yes I agree with a previous commenter you can change the bath taps to accommodate a shower attachment as your bathroom looked to be in pretty good condition. Have fun making your house a home xx

Oh my goodness congratulations on the new home! My family moved across the United States and the "new home" was so not move in ready. Most of the windows were droken out. Needed new plumbing, new electric, floors ripped out to tge studs and replaced and a new roof. That was the big things. It needed appliances. Goodness it is pretty much a gut job. But we moved in tape off the deoken windows and had a very cold winter. Still so much work to do but we have made it cozy and liveable as we work on it. I know you have got this. Enjoy your new wonderful start.

Defs get the roof checked, before the snow comes ! We've refurbed and rented out a few houses now and the first mistake we made was to concentrate on decorating the house to walk in one day and found a massive 12ft long damp patch on the upstairs ceiling. We had to get scaffolding up, re-lat, re- tile and re-felt the bottom few feet of the roof it was flooding in soon as it rained. Didn't notice any issues before we bought that one, but a look at the roof/ inside the loft is now on our essentials list when looking at properties. Live and learn! Best of luck tho extremely happy for your update! 😊

Thank you for sharing . YOU HAVE A HOME😀. I’m so happy for you all . I know it’s scary but it’s so exciting . You can do this . I did it 22 yrs ago when my husband dumped me and we had a 3 year old together. I smiled all the way through the video..your new home is lovely and just the perfect place to put your stamp on it .
Talking of it being cold . I had loft insulation put in years ago and it made a HUGE difference..heat rises and will leak out at the top but the loft insulation transformed my home even though the walls were already done .
A friend who had a detached cold bungalow notice the difference in my home so did their bungalow…it made a tremendous difference .
Please look into it when you can afford too ..ask your local council if there is a government scheme to help . Please also do home updates. 😀🇬🇧💛🤍

Hi Nicola Congratulations on the new house it looks like it has excellent bones. It needs a lot of tlc but paint is a cheap and easy way of refreshing a tired house. The floors look good and would be lovely if you sanded and sealed them. You can hire a sander from any of the big tool hire companies and they are easy to use. A good varnish or stain on the floors would create a really cosy look with rugs on top. IKEA do some good basic carcasses for kitchens and you can always change the doors later if you want to make it look a little fancier. You can so do this Nicola without breaking the bank. Good luck to you and your two boys on a brand new fresh start for you all. Would love to see updates as your progress.

We never thought we would be able to afford to buy anything, but this one also needs lots of work inside and out, so I feel your pain! When we moved in we had no furniture apart from our picnic table and chairs no white goods apart from built in hob and oven and we slept on blow up mattress! Please post 'house' updates, for your sake and our nosiness, but to see how far you have come. I am so thrilled for you. X

Congratulations on your new house which will soon become a home for you and your boys. Our daughter was in a similar situation to you with slightly older children. Probably when there are carpets and flooring down and the heating on, the whole house will be warmer. It's a good size for the three of you. Best wishes and enjoy making it your own. :-)

Congratulations! Your house will be beautiful!!
We used DIY Kitchens for our kitchen and it was really cheap compared to other options. I went to their showroom to check them out but you can order door samples etc if it’s far away 😊 I film my videos in my kitchen as I like it so much 😂 although I’ve been terrible at filming lately.
Wishing you all the very best! Such an exciting time 😊

Well done you 👏 an exciting time for you all.
Yes definitely keep posting updates on your forthcoming house renovation. Check out charities or reuse places that stock paint, which are very good, especially if you don't want large pots of paint which you'll not all of it.. Gives you a chance to help the environment and also buy paint which you'd otherwise be unable to afford.
    Happy decorating.
I'm sure once you've carpets, curtains and your furniture in you'll find it's much warmer. Though run the central heating for an hour whilst you're in the throngs of updating your home, you'll work better if you're not too cold.
And don't be afraid to ask for help.
    Good luck.
Wishing yourself and your boys all the best in making happy memories in your new home 🏡 xx
