Thank you for everything, Ashton! I'm a binary trans man, and very much look the part, but most people would think of me as sort of "effeminate". Seeing how you, as a gender non-conforming trans masculine person, exist just as you are and still have a good life and good friends, it lets me feel a bit stronger and at ease about what my future holds.. I want to more fully come out soon and start T after many years of knowing my identity and being afraid to step forward. This book you've just reviewed will be helpful in getting my mother to understand a little better, my identity that she's (unfortunately) just ignored and swept under the rug for so long. I'm gonna buy it for her lol
This book makes me happy. It makes me so sad that this is the only fictional book about a black trans male aligned person. And I learned a few days ago that its becoming an Amazon prime show😁 we as black trans male aligned folks deserve more rep /:
After seeing a certain... transphobic book I won’t mention (no, not JK Rowling’s new book.) it’s refreshing to hear about a book that’s trans positive :)
I love how they reference the statistics behind an issue and also discuss how they've made the same error before! I don't think I'm at the same level of data checking yet, but this is where I hope to get to!
OMG I literally squealed when I saw this in my reccomended. I got to pick out a book for my 14th bday like a month ago and I got this one because it looked good and I loved it so much!!
I really like how you review books! Your tales are very nuanced and you’re not afraid to criticize ownvoices books or even books you like, which I really appreciate.
You should review "Spy Stuff" it's about a stealth gay trans guy in high school. It has a romance element and I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. I'd really love to hear your opinion on it. I read it in one night because It was the first book I read with trans representation.
Oh I'm so happy you liked this!! I read it in June and just happy cried through so much of it! I can't remember if I left the comment or not but I definetly thought about metioning this book because you were saying in your gender euphoria video how tank tops with visable top surgery scars make you feel euphoric and it reminded me immediately of Felix!
Oooh, I *just* started reading this book yesterday, only to come on today and see your review. I'm about halfway through, and loving it thus far. My only real complaint at this point is the bit about getting top surgery before even being out of high school... that seems a bit early/unusual to me, and like one of those things critics often incorrectly accuse the trans community of doing as the norm. Overall, though, I agree with all of your points so far. Great timing with the review - hopefully seeing what you said will encourage others to pick up this book as well!
@Zofia Graham Ha, well, to each their own. I tend to take a "live and let live" attitude, esp towards things like this. While I personally feel like high school is a bit early for most people, I do believe there could be cases where it is the best choice, and should therefore always be left up to the individuals involved. That said, I also feel like writers need to be a bit careful not to feed into the most common/harmful misconceptions surrounding trans issues, and right now one of the biggest is the whole "chopping off children's breasts" thing. If it were the norm for top surgery to occur that young, that would be one thing, but it really isn't - most trans people have to wait until at least 18, so there's no need to stoke public misconceptions on that particular issue, imo. Still, a really great novel overall. One of the better ones I've seen, to be sure.
i’ve gotta say, you’ve definitely convinced me to read this book! i’ve seen it floating around various social medias before and was quite intrigued by it, but not enough to actually push myself to read it (credit to my horrendous tendency to procrastinate for that). however, i really enjoyed your review and found what you had to say both interesting and appealing! also, i love how you mentioned the inaccuracy of the whole life expectancy statistic, as that is not something i see discussed frequently. overall, it was a great video!! :D
you need to read a million quiet revolutions, its so good! It's also a love story but it feels sooo real and they cover the dead name really creatively
i know im very late: but kacen addressed the harry potter in the book and said in future printings of the book that all the mentions of harry potter will be taken out
If anyone is looking for another book with a trans main character, I'd recommend cemetery boys. it's one of my favorite books and it's absolutely amazing
I know this is an old video but I’m behind on all my RUclips videos and I have a question. I understand why putting a brithname in a story is usually pointless as a trans person however I have had an idea of a shapeshifting trans person so when their brithname is said they shape shift to look like their assigned gender and vice versa so could I make a brithname for them or do you think it’s best not to?
!!!! I’ve heard a lot about this book but haven’t managed to get my hands on a copy of it, I think I might order it, bc from what I’ve heard from you and other people it sound rlly rlly good
Hey Ashton, im pretty new to punk side of alt culture (im mean not really ive been listening to some music and have always had "punk views") but could you post your band recommendations?
Thanks for the new patch idea Left handed leftists I love it. And i have been adding some(patches) to some shorts all throughout the summer and now it autumn and i wont wear them as much i keep finding things i want to add to it so thats big fun . Also a good video as always 🖤✌ And your shirt it is very good i like it
Hey, Ashton! Or anyone else here! I new to this channel, the first video I saw from him today was a video from a year ago where they were answering 20 non binary questions! I subscribed after watching and have watched so many videos of yours today since, lol! Does anyone know what the type of hairstyle they have is called? I love it so muchhhhh aaahgh
I only recently read the book, so I am watching this late but I kind of like when the plot is a bit predictable because it’s sort of comforting? I don’t know. I have pretty bad anxiety, so if there’s a lot of tension or uncertainty in a storyline, it can make me super uncomfortable and take me out of the story.
when ashton said “i dont wanna hear about harry potter” i FELT that on a spiritual level
My brother and I hum the Harry Potter theme whenever my mom says something transphobic
I love Harry Potter
That’s genius.
aaAAAHHahaha will use this when someone gets annoying in public
xD
Y'all the author confirmed it's getting turned into a TV series!!!
Omg really? I need this to be real!
Wait really where !!!!!
Me, overstimulated in my own home, screaming internally: :(
Ashton: **posts a wholesome, cozy vid**
Me: :)
hope you're feelin better

i have read it !!! i’m gonna talk abt it in my next video actually :)
Someday I will actually read a book instead of just binging Ashton's books videos
ashton looks awesome but what’s new honestly
After seeing a certain... transphobic book I won’t mention (no, not JK Rowling’s new book.) it’s refreshing to hear about a book that’s trans positive :)
@@marsm652 i am so sorry your father is like that. i hope you are safe now

:,) thank you i do my best !!
Okay but can I just say that I absolutely adore your book reviews? Like these are what got me back into reading and analyzing stories.
as a trans person myself i actually didnt know about the 35 year myth so thanks for the explanation on that

because i peeped it in the background: what did you think of transmission by alex bertie?
you need to read a million quiet revolutions, its so good! It's also a love story but it feels sooo real and they cover the dead name really creatively
You know what. We shouldn't be calling J.K. Rowling a TERF. TERF stands for Trans-Exlusionary Radical
Feminist.
She is by no means a feminist.
i know im very late: but kacen addressed the harry potter in the book and said in future printings of the book that all the mentions of harry potter will be taken out
Yeah I finished reading it yesterday and it got replaced by other fandoms like marvel
