    Got introduced to these guys back in 3.5 and fell in love with them near instantly. When I write stories with them I've gone between base line hunter/gatherers to temple societies that may or may not be associated with Yuan-ti

      I really love them. I like the unique relationship with yuan ti they have. Like there enemies kinda some times, they can both be working together under certain condition. If you see one you can almost guarantee you’ll see the other.
      I enjoy them both a lot!

    I once played a Lizardfolk bard. It was fun roleplaying with the irony of a purely survival focused being who nonethless knew how to play a lute as his main weapon.

      Lizardfolk bard? Man that’s out there! Did he live in a city?

    • @scabbarae
      @scabbarae 4 месяца назад +1

      Nah, he was a wanderer. His backstory was that he was an outcast in his youth due to his greater intelligence and uncommon interests in the culture of the tribe's prisoners. After too much neglect and abuse by the tribe, he left the swamp and matured on the fringes of civilization, learning some shred of emotion but mostly keeping his reptilian instincts.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  4 месяца назад

      That’s interesting. I like how you forged the abuse as a, detriment to your own survival. I find lizardfolk particularly interesting in how they interact with their own. Using that negativity in a creative way to hinder your survival to push you away from the tribe dose two things. First it shows how different your character is from the tribe being able to interpret the abuse for what it is. The second thing is that it shows strength of self to go it alone and feel that is a better way for you to survive. Like a better land for you to grow.
      I like it.
      I usually see lizard folk differently, it’s always so cool for me to see them in the perspective of others.

    i also loved playing Lizardfolk. i was a grave domain cleric, which was amazing fit for the race. As a cleric, i always had one hand free for spells, since i could use bite. his natural armor is great for starting gear (you can sell your backround armor for extra gold), or for bijamas. my favorite ability is by far making those simple weapons and shield. found an NPC and equip him. raise some undead (not me though), gear them up. and the flavor is amazing. dm allowed me to make from humanoids parts, since i was canibilizing them. i was a very friendly character all and all and never aggressive unless attacked. but whatever dead creature he found, he would eat it (goes well with grave domain cleric. nothing gets wasted.

    I'm currently playing a lizardfolk druid in a campaign. I originally used the character in a previous campaign, but had to drop out around lvl 4, and coincidentally I joined the new campaign at lvl 4, so I found it interesting to continue his story.
    I tried to introduce a lot of lore into my character and his behaviour as a lizardfolk. Some examples:
    - his name is Korth, which is draconic for "Danger", because he's a druid
    - magic-users in lizardfolk society are rare and dangerous (hence "danger"), and to protect the tribe, they must first prove capable of controlling their powers
    - lizardfolks are adults at 14, and then set out on a Proving, where they need to survive alone outside the tribe, and bring back a trophy to prove their value as a mate
    - males tend to go hunt, females tend to stay and protect the tribe and hatchlings
    - the more food one could provide, the more females they could support, and thus get more hatchlings. Survival of the fittest.
    - they ritually eat their own dead, usually this meat is shared between the closest relatives, in the belief that eating their meat and organs and such gives some of their strength to the consumer, and they remain "part of the tribe" this way.
    - to let meat rot is a waste and a grave insult. To not consume a kill, is to say "you have no value, not even as food", "your meat is rotten". In a society where nothing goes to waste, this is as big an insult as it gets.
    - the dead must be processed, one way or another, to prevent the undead from spawning (also "your meat is rotten"). Undead are one of the greatest insults to nature and must be purged.
    - they don't know the value of money or what we'd usually consider "riches", as they are practically minded and barter rather than use currency. A lizardfolk might offer a precious diamond just as easily as a polished button, because they're both shiny, and softskins like shiny things
    - the division between softskins and scalykind. Lizardfolks have natural armor, and have respect for any creature with natural armor. Softskins, like humans, elves, dwarves, etc. have no such natural armor and are thus considered weak, unless they compensate it with actual armor. Ingame, a fighter with chainmail or plate armor will get respected as a warrior smart enough to compensate his natural weakness, while a rogue or bard with leather armor might be seen as weak. Sometimes they can be seen as "hatchlings" to be protected, as if their scales have not grown hard yet. So there is the perception of weakness of being unprotected, but could trigger a paternal response because of this. And a condescending/coddling behaviour, as these are just little children in a lizardfolk's eyes.
    - dragonborn gain a lot of respect, and even the lowly kobold has some, as being part of the draconic family. A regular kobold could get instantly recognised and respected for their draconic heritage, while a pompous elven noble in lavish clothes would be seen as weak and disrespected as such.
    - an entire story about Semuania, the lizardfolk god of survival, which I combined with the Sarrukh from D&D lore. The story is not the official D&D lore, but since lizardfolk don't have a written history, and since these events span a few tens of thousands of years, I adjusted it to have a creation story for the lizardfolk to tell.
    - Semuania is not worshipped, but revered. Semuania does not care about anyone, he does not care about the lizardfolk that worship him, but he is the pinnacle of survival, the ultimate lizardfolk that can chew through ancient dragons like they're a cracker. No lizardfolk expects anything from their god, but he is honored for his power.
    - the emergency rations are the friends you made along the way
    That's about all the lore I can remember right now. Hope it helps with anyone wanting to make a lizardfolk character with some extra depth.

    I had the idea of a Lizardfolk Fighter, who was raised by Dwarves when they saved his egg from bandits. And his goal is to just explore cool areas, and fight strong opponents.
    And if asked 'Wait, if you were raised by Dwarves, how do you know Draconic?', 'The dragon gods taught me in my dreams'

      Languages are funny in D&D. It could be you saw the writing and you can just read it or it seemed familiar to you.
      The real question is how dose a lizardfolk act when he is raised by dwarves, considering its lizard brain thought process.

    Lizardfolk are such a slept on race and I can't articulate how much I desire to play one. I'm torn on what class, though. I either want to play a Predator like Lizardfolk Ranger (depending on the party I'll be a Gloom Stalker, a Beastmaster with a Giant Lizard, or a Drakewarden) that is more akin to an alligator/crocodile for amphibious warfare and ambush tactics (also camouflage) or a Barbarian who charges raging into combat and looks like a smaller Tyrannosaurus Rex or Allosaurus.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  8 месяцев назад +1

      Personally I am partial to the ranger so I am super biased. Lore wise barbarians have a lot of emotions considering how alien the mind of a lizard folk is. I 💯 would go Ranger. Either of those 3 work. Lizardfolk gloomstalker emerging from the water for that ambush!

    • @mitchmcginn4250
      @mitchmcginn4250 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheSinisterheroes That was pretty much my first thought! The mental image is so freaking cool, and Lizardfolk are a complete package between skills and survival traits, perfect for the Ranger! If I played anything other than the Ranger class it'd be due to party composition but I'll be quite adamant on staying the course in playing one regardless. After playing a Firbolg Moon Druid the past couple years someone else will have to take the reigns lol

    Today's character is inspired by chef Gaston Gourmand from the childrens cartoon wild krats this character's name is Grox Goremon a Lawful Evil Lizard folk Gloom stalker ranger who is a huge food fanatic chef who wants to try every single edible thing in existence especially meat and prefers to hunt and gather his own ingredients and nothing is off the table for ingredients especially humaniods he really enjoys the thrill of the hunt and really wants to try Dragon meat someday he can be a little bit eccentric at times especially with the spices he uses at times which can leave people feel uncomfortable and unsafe sometimes he really enjoys experimenting with he's recipes and one day wants to open he's own restaurant but that's a little bit difficult because not a whole lot of races are comfortable with cannibalism which he really can't understand why that's a problem he even keeps a recipe book of he's favorite experimented recipes and he made the book from paper, bones, fur and wood he made from various animals and trees wild krats was one of my favorite cartoons growing up so I have a lot of nostalgia about this character probably one of my favorite characters i have shared on this channel i hope you enjoyed it Sin

He was commissioned by Malcanthet to craft a new weapon for her. It was a weapon called "the Velvet Scourge". Put on an armor screws up your decks bonus so she have a plus five and throw on medium armor you only get the plus two so it doesn't always work

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  6 месяцев назад

      Sorry to say That’s not true. What ever armor you wear does not interact with your natural armor. The way it works is if you put on medium armor and you have the plus 5 to dex then you only add the plus 2 to the armor as it is listed which your right about.
      When you have natural armor you add what ever ability score modifier to it as it is listed, Like the monk and barb both have an additional ability score modifier to add besides dex.
      So when you put on medium armor while having natural armor you end up with what ever the higher ac is. So in this case it would probably be the lizardfolk natural armor.
      Wearing the medium armor dose not restrict your bonus to natural armor. You get which ever is highest not a combination of the two.
      I hope that helps
