Thank you to the Half-Life: Short Stories Team for making this great mod!
Be sure to watch until the end! :)
i randomly was recommended a walkthough of this mod yestorday and happened to watch it, complelty randomly i prettymuch never watch walkthough videos, we do live in a simulation lmao
Nothing interesting happened
My favorite part of this video where you analyzed Gordon Freeman's role in this game for 5 minutes straight and ended it off with "Maybe in this game Gordon could be the free man he was always meant to be."
big city hunted
Kannst du deutsch? dein stimme klingt so *can you speak german you voice hears like german
"It tells a beautiful and also unfinished story"

Wow, here's a new advice about entertainment; You want to have an undying fandom? Never conclude your series
no. its a true ModDB story.

Daaaaamnnnn, Human Error. Always wanted to play the multiplayer "traitor mode" with some people, sadly the mod was all but forgotten when I played some years back.
There was a multiplayer?? Huh I wish I had gotten to play it since I did play the mod around its release date, and would still be down for trying if possible.
Damn, that would have been fun even though Trouble in Terrorist Town has the same idea.
I would be down for that if you're still interested! Do you have 2 other people?@@thrackerzod6097
Human Error's multiplayer was staggeringly underrated. A combination of Halo's Firefight and SS13's traitor mode is just such a phenomenal concept.
So _thiiis_ is where those metrocops from that GMod Idiot Box skit parodying "enjoying a treat, Derrick" come from.
Bloody hell, i had same nostalgia mystery solved just now.
Damn you're right
Oh my god, I didnt know that xD
Funny. You had played through Underhell which I did some voice work for, and ironically, this was one of the other "Big Three" I remember working on (the last major one being 1187 which I don't think you've reviewed yet). I did the voices for the Alien Controllers back in high school while my friend from 1187 DukeRobear voiced Noah. He recorded all his lines after a trip to the dentist, which he said always made him annoyed and grumpy and gave him the proper headspace for Noah. He did all those lines in a matter of I think about three hours total.
AuHeppa, the lead of Human Error, made this first before experimenting with a mermaid mod based in Source Engine. I forget what it was called, but I remember playtesting it back in the day before it released, and while again not flawless it was definitely something far more original. That's when we all know HE was fully done as a story-driven game. He did make a multiplayer mode titled "Human Error: Traitor Mode" where you played in the team of four (Anders, Noah, Eloise, and Larson) fighting off Rebel attacks on a major Combine asset (mainframe, Advisor Pod, etc.). But one player in the team (needed minimum 3 players to work correctly) was a traitor armed with Alyx's hacking tool to hack systems and lock down doors like the red doors in the main game. Their job was to ensure the Rebels won while staying hidden...unless D0G showed up as a miniboss (or Alyx) where the player could reveal himself at any moment to switch sides (namely when either found out completely or when a miniboss that would WRECK you showed up). There were about 3 maps made for that, and it was honestly a good time. There I voiced the intro video and, strangely enough, Anders himself, since he needed barks in the game alongside the other Civil Protection team members.
Eloise was voiced by CatzEyes93 who also voiced the Black Mesa Transit System VO in the biggie, Black Mesa. Larson was PlanetPhilip of the Planet Philip modding website fame. That was a real fun time.
A few other points: lots of this mod was inspired of all things by AuHeppa's seemingly favorite show Sledgehammer (remember Eloise saying "Trust me! I know what I'm doing!"? That was Sledge's catchphrase.) It even became so prevalent that when I voiced Anders in Traitor Mode, I was given a line that said "Hey, did anyone watch Dr. Breen's broadcast last night?" and adlibbed "Hey, did anyone watch Sledgehammer last night?" to reference all that. AuHeppa kept that in. The smoke grenade, as you rightly deduced, was useless and was actually mostly cut from the game except for that one crate in the base defense sequence. AuHeppa never cut it for some unknown reason, and that's the one and only time you can get them. There is also a chance for the player to get and use the Overwatch sniper rifle, although it was placed in only one instance on the streets map. When a sniper gets blown up in a window near the tram streets, normally the player flies on by in the APC. If you stop, though, and fight your way into the building, you can get to the uppermost floor and retrieve the sniper rifle. It uses suit charges like the Stun Baton to fire. I remember it not being THAT effective, though, as it would have been basically a cheating weapon if exactly the same as the main campaign sniper rifles from HL2, so it was nerfed heavily...actually too heavily. No one really uses it, but it's there, and that's the one chance to get it.
So honoured to have a a person behind this legendary mod in the comments.
The mermaid source mod is called "water" by the way. Really cool stuff that could've been on Steam for $5 if it's done on Unity or something.
The second rifle is on the last map.
Due to the large number of chargers, it is easy to win the last battle.
@@mfaizsyahmi Thanks for that. I remember it existing and the mechanics being pretty good, though the title was a little unmemorable IMO.
@@elimet414 Guess I forgot about that. Always used different means to win that final battle, namely AR2 and rockets alternating.
1187 was my favorite HL2 mod back in the day, shame it never got its sequel
My first exposure to Human Error was DasBoSchitt using the character models in a skit for the gmod idiot box, best part is that I didn't even play the mod till like years later
I thank you for taking my suggestion to heart!!
It was time someone brought this mod to the light of day again. I appreciate it, and I think the mod is great.. just unfinished. I'll watch till the end.
You're not the only one pining for the recognition of this buried gem, friend.
Are we really at the point where watching a video to the end is noteworthy?
Human Error has unfinished, but somewhat playable, coop/traitor version, where 4 players(3 metrocops and 1 metrocop/traitor) need to defend certain things from waves of rebels, with occasional "boss encounter" of Alyx and Dog.
Combine Combat crawled so Human Error could walk, Human Error walked so Entropy Zero could Run, and i still wonder when Entropy Zero will get some mod to Sprint.
For sprinting you can either take E:Z2 or Uprising :P
I honestly meant a mod that isn't really related to already established things, but i'll take Uprising's Storytelling and E:Z2's gameplay.@@1lucia
Just found out the two male metro cop models were used by DasBoShitt. “Hey! Hey Alex!” “What do you want Derick!?”
Honestly its pretty nice to have a character wbo hates us instead of characters whp worship us for our very existence
Even if the old team aren't bothered about continuing the story I see no reason other mod makers couldn't take on the role of finishing the story. Considering Entropy Zero 1, 2 and uprising are all hugely successful we know there are lots of mod makers who are more than capable of doing incredible stuff with a second episode.
It surely helps the VAs all still do work and one of them named off everyone who voiced in the mod, lol
personally i wish _every_ unfinished story that the devs/writers lost all interest in got their own Epistle 3s so that some other team could pick up the pieces and build a faithful continuation with their own unique skills
i think i played this way back literal years ago and it was good
1:45 *DERIIIICK!*
imagine if ep2 of human error was released like, further the years than here, and it’s like, absolutely amazing with the graphics, maps, and npcs
Ah I remember this mod had a lot of fun , a shame Episode 2 never happened :(
Also I think the First Half life 2 mod where you play as a combine soldier is Combine Destiny, its a action-horror mod where you need to take a rebel base full of zombies after the combine bombard the place with headcrab shells, its a interesting mod too to check out
3:55 Huge props to the team? Unintended pun?
"Human Error is the foundation of all half life mods where you play as a combine soldier"
Combine Destiny : Are you sure about that ?
dayum that's an old mod! I'll be checking that one out as well!
@@1lucia Something to keep in mind is that combine destiny was ported in its entirty to entropy zero 2 and I imagine that's going to be where its at its most playable. From what I remember there are two ports of it but one made some unnecessary additions, so there may be a "right one" and a "wrong one" if you were going to advise people to play it that way
Oh also combine destiny is also a mod with a planned sequel that was never finished, so if Entropy Zero is a first of anything, its a combine mod with an actual continuation
@@1lucia speaking of old combine mods you should also play Combine Combat.
Wow, I never expected a review on it from you! not many people have talked about it so it's refreshing to see a new review for it. I actually never realized that Human Error was credited for stuff that happened in the varying entropy zero games so that's pretty neat to see!
It's a sad thing about Episode 2 being never released but I do understand, From Earth and Human Error wasn't actually their only stories to be released. There was this one about mermaids and stuff. I forget the name though but if your interested I'd recommend checking it out cause I definitely think it's out there. There was also this planned zombie mod [sorta like zombie edition from HL1] but it never released I believe, had a unique concept too.
the one you're talking about is Water. There's also another mod made by team called Last Zombie (which sort of takes place in the Half Life universe), which is an experimental mod about a guy being turned into a zombie and trying to meet his partner/loved one. It's more atmosphere focused rather than being fun, think something like Dear Esther but shorter and weirder.
Also, I think I know what you mean, that HL2 Zombie Edition-esque mod looked cool, but alas, RiP.
@@peppermillers8361 Yeah, sad it was never made or finished though
the mod team who Created the Mod "Water" back in 2011. I Did made a Andres Plays Video for that mod (Not Human Error).
THAT was the name of it. I completely forgot. I knew it was simple.
I remember being really charmed by this mod when it first came out, and I''m happy to see it getting acknowledged. It did have a really cool "coop-with-a-traitor" multiplayer mode, but i'm not sure if it's possible to play anymore
I remember playing the first release of this mod but I forgot its name over the years. Glad I found your channel :)
Hey, Alex. You know sometimes I like to crawl up into a big ball and pretend I'm a hush puppy
wow, they made Gmod Idiot Box 9 hey alex sketch guys into a real mod!
These face models, at least for the metrocops, remind of a Das Bo Schitt episode. Also yeah wow props on the dev team for making face models, yeah they look bad but if you describe hl face poser as the spawn of evil itself, I'll believe you Lucia XD
He actually did use these models. There's a skit that uses Larson's model, I forgot what it was.
@@peppermillers8361 oh damn lol
@@peppermillers8361it was on episode 9 or episode 11 where it was using a skit from another youtuber way back when
@@kovacsnovak6745 ah, time capsules. How I love them.
It has an Underhell vibe to it. A great mod which improved on the source material. And left on a cliff hanger
I remember this mod well. Not only due to extremely obnoxious looking characters, but mainly because I first saw them in Gmod Idiot Box skit.
You should cover the mods: Strider Mountain and Coastline to Atmosphere. Two ancient mods that were really lengthy if I remember correctly. I played those two as a kid back in 2010 and remember being impressed how long they were.
those two are very wonky, but worth checking out.
strider mountain was a fever dream, i mainly remember the weird doom looking textures and barney getting tractor beamed into an awkward position
i absolutely love your channel keep up the good content
Combine Destiny wasn't the first mod where you play as combine soldier. The first one was probably Antlion Trooper. Also you sorta play as combine in Half Life 2 Deathmatch and there's also numerous mods for it where you also play as combine.
the fact that you didn t realize the "human error" name very likely a poetically about the fact that our protagonist join civil protection in the first place is the most german thing ever lmao
great vid, also i don t know if you missed it but there is also a combine sniper to pick up that can be recharge with suit battery
It's a pity that you played a broken version of this mod, which spoiled your impression.
The mod was created on the old version of Ep2 and became unplayable after the SteamPipe update in 2013.
ModDB patches do not fix the mod completely. That is why the AI of your allies does not work normally.
At the time of release, everything was fine with this: the allies followed you without any problems, kept their distance, quickly dealt with opponents.
Charged stunstick kills rebel with one hit and aliengrunt with four hits. A stunstick without a charge requires ten hits on rebel.
Alyxgun is slightly more powerful than smg and has the same fast rate of fire.
Gas grenades deal constant damage in an area, five seconds of being in the gas is enough for rebel to die.
In the mod there are two places with a sniper rifle, with which it is quite easy to win the final battle.
You can also take turrets with you to the inventory for the slot space under smg.
Interesting! Yeah I installed all patches but I didn't see the things you are saying here, a shame. Nice info though!
oh, so that is where the strange metro cop face model is from.
It was from an old Dasbochitt video called idiot box and never knew it till now
The faces are pretty uncanny tbh, they just dont feel very half lifey, but still, extremely great gun
So THIS is where that model for that one char in gmod idiot box comes from!
I think Part 2 might've delved more into the conflict between Eloise and the protagonist's dead girlfriend. Perhaps there'll be a reveal that the resistance is actively mining the Xen crystals for Black Mesa East's facility, since they have functioning Xen rerouters in HL:2. I sort of expect a twist where the dead girlfriend is actually... not so dead. and pissed off, at the protagonist.
I get the feeling the visions of her are like reminders of their relationship getting in the way of new ones, which... presumably, leads to 'human error', like choosing to side with the rebels later on, potentially having you fight against your love interest from the first episode. Or perhaps it was intended to go the direction of Entropy 0's side plot, with you being able to choose which girlfriend you side with.
Episode 2 of this mod is like hoping on Valve making a 3rd game of any series
Why are you this underrated
my only memory of this mod is the Gmod idiot box "I'm enjoying a treat derrick" skit
Sehr gutes video mein herr!
I love your review of this old mod. I loved playing this old mod over sometimes. You forgot to review one other new weapon in the mod. The combine sniper rifle. It's okay. Most other players never pick up that weapon lol.
Looking at the faces of Noah and Larson for the first time in years, all I can think of is Larson trying to enjoy a treat while Noah incessantly pesters him.
I still hope that one day either the original team or fans would make Episode 2 and continue the storyline somehow, though getting the original voice actors might be tricky (not sure if Phil of Planet Philip would be up for it, even).
Speaking of Unfinished Storyline, there is an old mod called Ravenholm and its sequel, Eye of the Storm: Episode 1, both of which are worth checking out. There's also an unfinished pre-alpha version of Episode 2 released online, I am still sad about the story not coming to fruition.
Got it recommended and it was amazing.
The NaHEElenths? Nile lynth.
Amazing! I love your content! Keep up the great work. I know you will be a popular half-life content creator one day!
I had no idea EZ2 used the APCs from this! I really love this mod, right up there with EZ2 and Uprising for some of my favorite half life mods.
love when games & mods let you play as the opposite side in the story.
it's kinda neat to see how the enemy faction works, as well as getting their perspective on events.
bro the jiggle physics 😭
Some mods are forgotten just because Valve updated the source engine in a way that breaks older mods.
Gonna be honest, running alien controllers is sorely underused.
So that's what it was called... I remember playing this years and years ago and tried to look for it recently but searching for half life 2 mods where you play as a metrocop nowadays all leads you to Entropy Zero
One of my favorite mods
If you're looking for a mod that take place in the Seven Hours War then you should check out Half-life 2 1187 a other masterpiece of mod that unfortunately was unfinished having just one episode made and having as well Expansion Pack story. Is worth checking
lmao that mod is far far far from being a masterpiece
Hunt down the freeman is better.
Steampipe destroyed 1187 from being a masterpiece
Great vid!
Not me being a degenerate noticing jiggle physics on the girlfriend
4:25 Wait, but didn’t Black Mesa also make source engine versions of alien grunts? This mod definitely did it first tho, so props there.
One part of this mod I hated so much was that it crashed my PC with a BSOD repeatedly, specifically relating to the Nvidia drivers.
Technically Combine Destiny would be the progenitor to all Half-Life 2 mods where you play as a Metrocop or Combine Soldier, It also had a sequel that was being worked on and it never came out, development just died off
very clearly a lot of jank but this mod looks so awesome.
How much you wanna bet that the dead girlfriend is also the Stalker that you have to escort?
that face at 4:33 😆😂🤣
The first I saw the "Woman in The Dress," I thought that was Belle from Beauty and the Beast added for some weird reason like a very weird dream.
damn its sad that its only one episode netflix would have probably wanted a bite
2:57 savage
God I love the Voice acting
Und natürlich auch Deine stimme Lucia !
The eyes of the characters are really creepy
I agree kinda lol. The irises are really small
Am i the only one who thinks that lady in the yellow dress ain’t some Belle knockoff?
No?
12:41
noah looks like lawnmowerman when hes in the vr world
cobson in source 1
@@GenericName23 oh yeah wasn't lawn mower man used for the creation of cobson? Completely forgot!
I'd go as far to say Black Mesa is more important as the most important mod ever made. CC spent 16 years on the mod that it eventually became a retail product endorsed by Valve themselves. No other mod or team has done that except them. APITW would be high up there.
9:13 "I'm not sure how this was done with source"
yeah,they did this with Csgo
Well, so... well, this mod surprised me.
My expectations were low because I knew it was before Entrophy Zero,
but I was surprised because I'd say... it's on the same level.
Models - 10/10 right away, no need to say they are beautiful and still look very good,
even if they were made 13 years ago... maybe the faces look just a little creepy xD
Maps - 10/10, Beautiful, decorated down to the smallest detail with a really good atmosphere.
Mechanics - 8/10, There aren't many of them, some can even be found in Entrophy Zero 1,
but they look and work well.
Gameplay - 7/10, I admit that switching weapons under G was a bit annoying because
I had no way to defend myself sometimes and the pistol doesn't do much unfortunately.
Soundtracks - 9/10, there were some of them and they were good but...
unfortunately not as much as in e.g. Entrophy Zero ;>
Voice Acting - 8/10, It's good, I think I liked Eloise's voice the most, although I admit that they
were so muffled or fast that sometimes it was difficult to understand what someone was saying to me xD
Final rating: 8.6, which is... 9/10, a point lower than Entrophy Zero but still the same level for me :D
W video man
Honestly I liked this much more than the Entropy stuff. (Primarily because the people who like it don’t proclaim it as being half life 3)
That faceposer part sounded personal, lol
It was and still is and will forever be personal
This is cool!
3 mods, since entropy zero, and entropy zero 2, and human error, blah blah blah, you get da gist
Nice video bro
11:08 unbelievably true
I really think you should make a video on 1187, it's a really good Half life 2 mod that barely gets talked about.
Love how the autogenerated game name in the DESC shows EZ:1
i played this mod a long time ago but the game broke half way threw so i quit
i must return to this it was a good mod
I may go to horny jail for saying this... but his ghost girlfriend is bad though, that's all I'm sayin. 👀 Even with the early 2000s graphics.
What if the girlfriend IS Eloise -hits blunt,
I’m a simple man.
Human Error has a multiplayer
1:53 is that Derek from the gmod idiot box? Is that where the model comes from?
is this the mod that used ragdolls in one small section of a gmod idiot box video? cuz i swear i recognize the models for eloise and the others
epic video a
Too bad this mod never finished, back then...I were like...very, very want to know what will happens after the end of Human Error EP1 but seems will NEVER happens...too bad. :(
Okay wait... So you said it takes place shortly after the combine invasion?
And there is already humans working for the combine?
I feel like that doesn't make sense. How shortly after the invasion exactly? I wouldn't have thought humans joined the combine so soon.
Shortly being a relative term, probably a couple months or even up to a year after, remember though that earth surrendered after 7 hours
I know you said that Combine Combat was the first HL2 mod where you play as the Combine, but what about Combine Destiny? If I remember correctly that came out in...2005?
I'm still not sure why the girlfriend is dressed like a Disney princess
Could the hallucinations of your girlfriend be a result of the drugs combine infantry are administered to keep their soldiers going? Like the drug is supposed to elicit visions of what would most motivate you but in the Protagonist's case something so bad happened (which is unseen from the intro) which has completely distorted their memories of her?
5:15 :)
I downloaded it but I just get the cant find background image startup dose anyone have a fix
Half life 2 1187 mod
I think combine destiny in 2005 was first.
Is there any Source engine game/mod that is doesent end on a cliffhanger?
