I forgot to mention in our chat that 1187 was the zip code of the apartment where I lived when I made the mod, the apartment in the game was modeled after mine, that was also my actual house number and my brother thought it was hilarious to flip the number in the hallway upside down... so yeah, there's a bit more background info. :)
1:00 View Bobbing is horrible when trying to keep constant frame rate LOL. 3:42 That was like that when the mod first released. There should be a crack team of Source wizards going around fixing broken Source mods, so that gems like this don't continue to languish in the boulevard of broken mods.
This mod has been sitting in the back of my brain for a decade and it's a blast to see it again. Even hearing about Dune Jumper brought back memories, I always remember seeing him around lol.
I love these videos. I have been in the Source community since I was a kid, but there are so many mods I don't know about. It's great that there is a creator shedding light on these incredible finds!
1187 is very interesting and that seven hour war discussion also made me rethink about how the "7 hour war" went so thank you for clarifying on it. Something that I can see about why that G-man cutscene is there is because it's intended as a flashback when Gordon was put into stasis. I think something else for why it's there could be that its a hint towards G-man putting the main character into stasis as you said. Honestly I'd be fine with a steampipe patch if it were to ever get reworked or fixed as there doesn't have to be exactly any particular changes with gameplay but a sequel would've been a very nice thing to see though never made it to fruition understandably. Overall good video!
I'm so glad you actually went ahead and fixed the mod instead of using the 2013 fix that's on moddb (it allows you to play, but it completely botches up certain features and fucks the difficulty with making the soldiers you fight rebel reskins instead (absurd accuracy and damage), amongst maybe some other things).
Oh man, I miss this mod a lot! Back in 2011 when I was in high school, I discovered this mod on Moddb. I replayed it probably 10 times because I thought it was such a unique and interesting mod. Back then there were no other mods that took place in the timeline between Half-Life 1 and the invasion of the Combine, so it was really interesting to see how the developers thought the world would look. Me and many others have waited years for a sequel that was hinted at early on, but over 10 years later, there is still no sight of it. (Edit) Watched the last part of the video and learned that the developer is done with the mod, depressing. At least I got to enjoy it a lot as a kid.
I actually lived with my family in the exact type of Amstelveen apartment building this mod start in. These apartments are very real and very well done in the mod.
I remember playing this way back in Middle-school and having a blast with it - I'm so happy to see it getting some modern coverage ! I always thought it was so interesting to see the after-effects of the resonance cascade from a civilian's POV.
While it's definitely the official canon that the 7 Hour War took place right after the Black Mesa Incident, I always really liked the idea that Earth had to adjust to Xenian life for *at least* a number of months before the Combine steamrolled in
Is it canon though? Like Lucia points out Alyx was a baby during Black Mesa, but vividly remembers the portal storms. So there would definitely have to be a gap in time.
"While it's definitely the official canon that the 7 Hour War took place right after the Black Mesa Incident" That is your headcanon. It is never stated anywhere.
the 7hw took place ~1 to ~2 weeks after the incident when earth's army was weakened there is no official canon of it being right after, literally every newspaper weve seen in the series make its evident that there was a gap in the timespan
I remember playing this way back in the day off Desura when that was still a thing. It had its flaws and I never really finished it, but it did stand out as one of the more unique total conversion mods of the time. Very intriguing to try and play it again today!
Voice of Mike here. I know I've popped up on several of your mod videos (Underhell, Cry of Fear, etc.), but I was very active back in the day. Joure took a nice chance on me with my first role in a game with Mike, if I remember leading to Mike's survival at the end of the chapter when he was supposed to initially die (if my memory serves me right). Also, working on my relatively fuzzy memory here since it's been forever thinking about 1187, there was supposed to be another self-contained expansion where you played as Brian, who you thought died at the observatory computer offices. It was never finished, along with a very expansive 1187: Co-op mode, but Brian was indeed supposed to survive. That body is a random body placed down. Also, for some fun and to replicate an old bug we thought was funny with John's voice lines, go into the console at type "ahhthanksman 1" or "ahthanksman 1" (forget which spelling works) for all of John's reactive lines to be replaced with "Ahh thanks man!" from his medkit revival.

Hi there Lucia! I wanted to ask if you will ever do a video on Transmissions: Element 120. Played it a while ago and I think it deserves a main channel video instead of just one small short. Please make it a thing! Also, stellar job with the videos! It's rare that I look at a video and get a good feeling from it, your videos are really well made and I genuinely have respect for you, mainly because you put a lot of effort and your heart into the script and the creation of the video and it is definitely visible. Continue on this way of awesomness, good sir!

I used to write very bad HL2 mod reviews on this one Polish fan site and 1187 was highly praised by me and I was completely baffled that Joure got into private contact with me just like that.
