One thing I'd like to add about Solidus and his child soldiers. The First Liberian Civil War happened in 1989, and Solidus was born in 1974, 2 years after Solid and Liquid, so when all of the child soldier shit happened he was only 15. Not only that but it's highly likely it was all done by the patriots, so that means they made a teenager create a child soldier unit, holy fuck. It also kinda humanises him more, since it shows how much of his life was controlled and what travesties he was forced to.
That's a point driven home further in MGSV, where smol Liquid had his own platoon at a younger age, got roped into Diamond Dogs, and ultimately conned the bigger operation for its resources to later one-up them, once Outer Heaven fell apart. He even had his own groomed super soldier (Psycho Mantis) driven insane by mental torture, killed by their loose ends (Solid Snake) and was ultimately being sheparded by the organization he swore to destroy (Ocelot's connection to the Patriots). Birds of a feather flock together, but also have a habit of flying into the sun.

36:28 The "Godzilla vs King Kong" bit cuts a bit deeper than that. “Newgrounds Era” Early Internet: MGS2 sucks. This story is too complicated, I wanna play as Snake. “YTP-2016Surrealism Era” Internet: haha, MGS2 is the best because “A DUD?!” “Post-Irony Era” Internet: Peak MGS, Bravo Kojima
The entirety of this game is "what did Hideo "games" "LA CREATIVIDAD" Kojima mean by this" and I love it. Like all pissing and shitting around aside, this genuinely might be my favorite game of all time and a game that shaped who I am today: an autistic king.
Near the end when Snake was talking to Raiden about how his experiences are his alone, reminded me about something i learned in my Philosophy of Mind class i took last year. In that no one has access to your mind, and what reality is is ultimately up to you, given you cannot know what someone else is thinking and feeling, and they cant in return. I first found it terrifying, but found comfort in knowing that my experience is my own, and given that, it made me appreciate reality and existence more. Thanks dumbsy for this epic video, and thank Hideo Kojima for creating peak fiction.
I still hold one of my favourite moments involving this game was showing my friend the later codec calls with the patriot AI Cambell and Rose when they started talking about the internet and the moden day. My man went from semi memeing and joking to looking like something just phased through a wall in front of him, most of the shit the AI spoke about can apply to the modern Internet and it's amazing
As a filthy zoomer, MGS2 unironically blew my mind away when I first played it when I was 19 on my PS3 and is still my favorite Metal Gear game next to 3. Peak Kojungus writing.
That AI Conversation has to be the most scariest thing I’ve ever heard and seen in a video game. It’s scary because of how much it has aged so well….this game came out in 2001….2001 dude!!
1 hour and 19 minutes for The first review... 2 hours and 19 minute's for this second review... Good lord i can't even imagine how long the 3rd review will take or if he will do all of them to Metal Gear Revengeance...
The most hilarious part about Rose is that after "Cambell" tells her to call him Raiden, she calls him that once, forgets about it, and immediately just calls him Jack for the rest of the game.
Hideo Kojima going back in time to cause the Red Scare so a bunch of writers could make political commentary so it would lead to him making peak fiction:
1:32:42 God I love how you put aspects of the game into your own video. This genuinely got me for a moment... For real though, I knew both about the mass-produced ray fight (and the cutscenes immediately surrounding it) and vaguely that the Colonel was an AI going into my first playthrough of this game. It was NOT enough to stop this segment from fucking me up bad. It shook me up (especially when you are stuck in the tunnel for a bit until Snake finds you)...
I come across YT videos covering video games that could maybe get a chuckle out of me every so often. Very seldom do I find something that literally makes me laugh out loud throughout the entire video. This is one of those. Love your editing man. This is one of my all time favorites!
Harry Gregson-Williams was not the only composer on MGS2, but also Norihiko Hibino. He composed the tracks that you showcased for how good the music is :). Essentially, most gameplay tracks are composed by Hibino, and most cutscene tracks are composed by Gregson-Williams.
"Actually, there is something I have been meaning to tell you but I just couldn't... I think you should know, though. On Saturday morning last week I saw a guy leaving Rosemary's room... How should I put it, it was like they were... "intimate." I'm sorry. Sorry to bring this up during the video, but..."
watching this video was terrifying because my computer is kinda old and actually does freeze and crash sometimes, i kept forgetting that it was part of the video
I always thought the implication with Rose was that she’s actually real for the majority of the game, but then GW cuts off her communications and now her AI image is just being used to taunt Raiden.
This video actually encouraged me to play the game. I stopped watching a minute in, went and started the series, fell in love with it, and now that I've finished it I can finally watch this video
i've never played an mg game but i gotta admit the absolute chadness of kojima being able to write an anti-fanfiction, that's like something i've never even heard of before until now
Both the MGS2 and 3 soundtracks are two of the best in all of gaming hands down. They’re both so iconic that they’re instantly recognizable. I’m blown away at how they can so perfectly match the feel of both of both games thematically while still being functionally extremely similar.
I came here looking for another MGS2 funny video, but left with an existential crisis. I now remember why I don't watch MGS2 commentaries often. This is gut-wrenching. I played this as a kid. I could barely speak Portuguese, let alone English. I had no idea what the story was, but the game was the single most impressive thing I had ever witnessed. It wasn't until years later, when I was starting to get into politics and all the anti-political discussions, second guessing all the definitions of liberty and free will, that I dove knee deep into MGS2. Until then I knew how good the game was. I knew how good the story was. I understood the parallels with MGS1 and modern society, but it wasn't nothing close to the real thing. Heck, I think I still don't fully grasp MGS2. One thing's for certain: this game has not only changed my life, but my perception of everything. After watching this video, I just had a 1h talk with my mom about it. Trying to de-videogame-izing it. One thing I got clear from the conversation: this game will never be fully dissected, because all it is doing is deconstructing human nature. Reality is no more than convenient truths, we pass one another, and choose to believe. Genes don't define us, but they're the predominant source of human information. Self doesn't exist. I'm a sum of it all. I'm a sum of me, you, and all the Raidens around me. We're mere pawns trying to demystify nature. We mapped the human gene. We split atoms in half. We created divine stories to justify our existence... After all, we're just fabricating truths strong enough to keep us going, in search of one (any) fact. I will forever be thrilled by this game. I will forever keep looking into commentaries of this game. And I will, more likely than not, comeback to this video in a short time (especially the Arsenal chapter), to give this another go, and try to link it to today's world. This video was a true work of a patriot.
When I first played this I had an absolute blast but Emma section really got to me. To not get too personal I’ll just say that I had a half sister who experienced something absolutely terrible thanks to my own biological father. So when I saw Emma’s last moments it really fucked with me and made me cry for several minutes. This game became really personal to me and quickly became one of my favorite games of all time
I love how Kojima with each game it is the Lore gets a lot more exciting like to get to know more about why they're doing this and who's behind this is so interesting this is why I love metal gear it's one of my favorite franchises
That false video ending at the 1hr 32min mark was genuinely terrifying even after playing the game twice because I've had almost all of those videos in my recommended feed in the past couple days
Just completed sons of liberty today. I agree, hands down the best game Ive ever played. Just when I thought nothing could top my previous favorite game, this one rolls along.
I like how Raiden in MGS2 goes from intentional self insert character to Cyborg man that can carry and throw giant metal with his bare fucking hands But I honestly just love this game I honestly might pick up the MGS collection V1 for this game and MGS3
I just finished mgs2 for the first time tonight and had this video in my watch later playlist for when I finished it. I’ve never been so traumatized and horrified by a piece of media as this. I truly realize that we are already in this dystopian future, living our lives but not truly controlling our lives. The only thing keeping me positive about humanity is that I have understood these ideals and have for years decided that I am not conforming to a specific party or taking a side in a political issue bc if I do, I’ll be fed the information that I want to hear and I refuse to be manipulated if I can help it. Sadly I realize that no matter what I do, for as long as I am on the Internet or a part of this technological age, I will always be manipulated in some way.
If I were to make a metal gear solid 2 spiritual successor, I'd have it to where you got some headset that helps you auto aim and you could take it off at any point. At some points you may find that the soldier you shot, maybe killed, was just an officer doing his duty, or even a normal citizen. The AI obviously controlling the headset if you found out, saying they are bettering humanity by removing the problematic factors of civilization. Further, if you refuse to go along with the AI's plan, they mark you as a enemy of the states. I dunno. Plot point I thought of on the spot.
This was the first PS2 game I ever played and you cannot understand how much my mind was blown when I found out you could break shit in the environment
The first video hard reeled me into MG as a series, and after spending hours looking into the entire series from videos and such, I got REALLY excited waiting for this video to come out. I absolutely love how Dumbsville handled and explained everything, and I'm hella excited to see more, good job dude!
Pretty sure Harry Gregson Williams just composed the main theme. Most of the other in game songs were composed by Norihiko Hibino. Great video though 👍
Williams did the cutscene tracks, while Hibino wrote the in game tracks and was the lead composer, he also remixed some of William's stuff to fit the cutscenes better.
Dude I love how everytime you make one of these videos you reference y'know the media you are reviewing itself, memes centered around it, memes ajancent to that, and, oh yeah, Modern games like Cod or even, Alone in the Dark (which I don’t mind, I just, I just think they are better horrorgames out their, like MGS2, or whatever, cusse it'san alright game, the enemies, gameplay and story, they just, pale in the face compsred to games like Alan Wake 2! But still), (including games you said that you were gonns play like Bioshock, but you somehow ended up playing them anyway), but idk, that's just something I kind of like about your content, taking random things that might not corilate to something, and somehow making that work, sorta like what I try to do but am not good at cause sometimes I talk about certain things for to long and my confidence about what I was talking about might wane for the stupidest of reasons, weather that being me getting rage bated, or being embarrassed at writing way to long comments in a short comments therad, but despite that, and despite the fact that half/all the things you review I either never see beforehand, or have but just didn’t have the time or patience to continue with it (like weather that'd be most of your bad/good movies that you reviewed, or bad/good games), despite that I still like your content because no matter how long or short the video is, I will (sometime) always like your wacky sense of editing and humor, so thsnks for making good content (at least in my opinion that is), I hope you continue to do so, you also deserve a million or so subscribers, and I also hope that you have a good day!
Back in 2022 I was first getting into Metal Gear Solid, around that time thought I went through a really rough breakup. I felt exactly like how Raiden felt when his world started to fall apart. I didn't know how to feel or what to do, for a few weeks of my life I felt aimless. That was until I finished Metal Gear Solid 2. Solid Snake told me exactly what I needed to hear in that moment. The emotional connection I have, the insane attention to detail that should be studied in game design classes for decades to come, the profound narrative and the metanarrative that makes the plot only work as a video game is why I think Metal Gear Solid 2 is the best game ever made.
Bro holy shit. You outdid yourself and your capabilities in this video. The editing was not only funny but crisp af. I love how ever scene shift has the equip sound

“Newgrounds Era” Early Internet: MGS2 sucks. This story is too complicated, I wanna play as Snake.
“YTP-2016Surrealism Era” Internet: haha, MGS2 is the best because “A DUD?!”
“Post-Irony Era” Internet: Peak MGS, Bravo Kojima
MGS2 is peak "you won't understand it, but your kids will love it"
Raiden and Colonel talking about AI usage is gonna play out 100% as meme'd.
To be honest, I absolutely loved it when I was a kid playing it for the first time. And the ending was creepy as hell, I sat through it all.
as the game says, echo chambers stall evolution.
hell, people now are saying that Metal Gear Rising is actually pretty damn good. despite people writing it off as an edgy game
Missed opertinity to release this video on April 30th smh
But not too late to realize the importance of the day
Maybe it was gonna if it wasnt for the copyright claim
What's so important about April 30th? Could someone be passive-aggressive about it while I'm on an important stealth mission
It’s all made from currently existing technology
Dumbsville This is probably one of your best videos Of All time
Love your Videos
I still hold one of my favourite moments involving this game was showing my friend the later codec calls with the patriot AI Cambell and Rose when they started talking about the internet and the moden day.
My man went from semi memeing and joking to looking like something just phased through a wall in front of him, most of the shit the AI spoke about can apply to the modern Internet and it's amazing
As a filthy zoomer, MGS2 unironically blew my mind away when I first played it when I was 19 on my PS3 and is still my favorite Metal Gear game next to 3.
Peak Kojungus writing.
Bro playing this and MGS3 back to back within a month was just 😭😭😭
Peak bro 😭😭
Your ass is NOT a zoomer
I played it at 9 on ps2 and I never recovered mentally lmfao ngga had me wondering if I was real
That AI Conversation has to be the most scariest thing I’ve ever heard and seen in a video game.
It’s scary because of how much it has aged so well….this game came out in 2001….2001 dude!!
MGS' meta humor makes me wish Kojima would make a Deadpool game.
Would have been 2000x better than that one we got which was basically Conker's Bad Fur day but done worse and not hilarious
You know what’d be cool if they remade it. If they advertised it as the game that showed what Raiden did before becoming a cyborg
So basically the original concept mgrr
You forgot that if you shoot the box, "pliskin" complains about it on the codec
18:18 I don’t think this is self plagiarism this is likely because these are soldiers getting the same debriefing off a script
Hideo Kojima going back in time to cause the Red Scare so a bunch of writers could make political commentary so it would lead to him making peak fiction:
can't believe you didn't talk about the post-credits scene, that plot twist is a whole rabbit hole of its own that only gets semi-explained in MGS3
The thumbnail is by far my favorite one so far. COOKED ON THAT ONE.
oh, and the video is good to :)
MY SNAKE IS SO SOLID RN🔥🔥🔥
I like that in every Metal Gear Solid, Ocelot is the only one that knows what is going on.
PLEASE KEEP MAKING METAL GEAR VIDEOS 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥‼️‼️‼️
I come across YT videos covering video games that could maybe get a chuckle out of me every so often. Very seldom do I find something that literally makes me laugh out loud throughout the entire video. This is one of those.
Love your editing man. This is one of my all time favorites!
Snake: Raiden you truly are John metal gear and I’m honored to call you a friend.
There was not a single joke or meme included in the section about the final conversation with the AI. That's how you know it's serious.
I always thought the implication with Rose was that she’s actually real for the majority of the game, but then GW cuts off her communications and now her AI image is just being used to taunt Raiden.
My girlfriend is a government plant, wow Raiden really is Literally Me. Kojima knows more about the player than we care to admit
metal gear solid 2 is , in my opinion, the CLOSEST we have gotten to a metal gear solid horror game
No fiction is more peak than Gez: enter the geico
Dumbsville really kept us waiting with this banger huh.
This video actually encouraged me to play the game. I stopped watching a minute in, went and started the series, fell in love with it, and now that I've finished it I can finally watch this video
This was a fantastic video. Can't wait to see you talking about Snake Eater for 3 hours.
1:32:41 was a nice touch...i actually had to think for a second, "wait, im on my Phone, why is it showing a Desktop-sized end screen?"
i've never played an mg game but i gotta admit the absolute chadness of kojima being able to write an anti-fanfiction, that's like something i've never even heard of before until now
Both the MGS2 and 3 soundtracks are two of the best in all of gaming hands down.
THE FAKEOUT AT 1:32:42 ACTUALY CONFUSED ME FOR A SECOND UNTIL I SAW THAT IT LOOKS REALLY LOW QUALITY LMFAO
2:12:50 10/10 performance. Cynthia Harrell would be proud of you 🤣
Just completed sons of liberty today. I agree, hands down the best game Ive ever played. Just when I thought nothing could top my previous favorite game, this one rolls along.
I like how Raiden in MGS2 goes from intentional self insert character to Cyborg man that can carry and throw giant metal with his bare fucking hands
But I honestly just love this game I honestly might pick up the MGS collection V1 for this game and MGS3
This took a lot of work and I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to do this. Thank you so much man. This was so good!
Snake snakes his way through a soild situation
@@dsa2505 thanks for the correction. Such a fantastic overall score.
I've been waiting for you to drop for what feels like ages. Glad to see the MGS2 video finally here 🎉🎉
Dude I love how everytime you make one of these videos you reference y'know the media you are reviewing itself, memes centered around it, memes ajancent to that, and, oh yeah, Modern games like Cod or even, Alone in the Dark (which I don’t mind, I just, I just think they are better horrorgames out their, like MGS2, or whatever, cusse it'san alright game, the enemies, gameplay and story, they just, pale in the face compsred to games like Alan Wake 2!
The emotional connection I have, the insane attention to detail that should be studied in game design classes for decades to come, the profound narrative and the metanarrative that makes the plot only work as a video game is why I think Metal Gear Solid 2 is the best game ever made.
another good video finally it came out hoping you will make a MGS3 video 💪💪
Bro holy shit. You outdid yourself and your capabilities in this video. The editing was not only funny but crisp af. I love how ever scene shift has the equip sound
I was gonna be upset if Dumbsville didn't add the McDonalds bit at the end.
That intro with rose and colonel ai was terrifying
This video’s fucking amazing, can’t wait for the MGS3 review
Thank you. Dumbsville.
Thank you for talking about stuff like this and passing it on.
I truly do, salute you.
A wonder that the colonel didn't say "age hasn't slowed you down one bit" to raiden
Probably cause Raiden is only 26 lmao
@@dumbsvillewhat was the music at the patreon credits of the MGS1 video
I want to know 😢
Jesus, almost 2 hours and editing is so masterful, especially on the Arsenal part
Lmao pythonselkon was not harmed in the beginning of this video 😂👍🏻
the only thing about the tutorial repeating in the big shell start is because you can select in which moment you want to start the game, either the tanker part or the big shell, both can be "the starting point"
Gona tell my kids this was the metal gear solid movie
2+ hours of Dumbsville is the perfect addition to my day
