In my opinion this ending is like "oh arthur knows revenge is a fool's game but he knew he was gonna die anyways and he wanted to save john and his family
Yeah but that wouldn’t have even made sense. Arthur goes for the money in the game. Not micah. So if it said “Go back to kill Micah” that wouldn’t make sense.

I know. Every time I play this game I still always go with John. It just feels like a waste to go for the money while also getting a high honor ending. It’s still always a hard choice.
@@flamethrower1273 I thought about it as being the rational choice for Arthur (or what I'd actually do in his position); he's already on death's door, so the best thing he can do for John is try to get him the money for a fresh start (I didn't think Arthur was getting the money for himself with high honour), rather than go on a mountain hike with John and just slow him down. Also, Arthur does say that revenge is a fool's game, but he also calls himself a fool many times, so I found it fitting for him to go back for Micah. I only went with John on Low Honour as I found that more fitting (Plus "whatever you say, you fool" and "DAMN US BOTH!" are some badass final words); it seems out of character for Micah not to kill you there, regardless of Honour, but with the Money ending you get stabbed at the beginning of the fight, so it made more sense for him to leave you as you're already bleeding out. Plus, I think the money low honour ending is the only objective wrong choice of the endings, hah. I also think more people would have chosen the money ending if it was called "revenge" or "deal with unfinished buisness" or something like that.
imagine Arthur spits blood into Micahs face before he dies and laughs at him. And when Micah asks him whats so funny he would just say " Nothing Black Lung"
That woulda been so phenomenal, but the epilogue woulda never happen. Though on a positive note, John would never have to cause noise looking for Micah and he woulda kept the law off his back.

I went back because I trusted John. I knew he was strong enough to make it on his own, and I knew that Arthur was dying anyway. I didn't want Micah to get the money, and I was hoping that I could get the money *for* John, or one of the others that might actually deserve it. I knew it was suicide, but I was dying anyway so fuck it, might as well take that 1% chance at glory.
I love that micah is missing an eye when you visit him as john. That really gave me satisfaction knowing Arthur gave micah something to remember him by.
Thats the whole thing though arthurs satisfaction is johns escape not killing micah his return is that he wants to kill micah which he says once he goes out to grab the money
Basically, the steal money ending is just Arthur wanting revenge more than him wanting the money. He's dying, he doesn't need it, he just wants to take it from Micah and have his revenge. The other ending isn't for vengeance, he gave up vengeance to ensure John's future. That's why we don't get to maim Micah on the mountain, the maiming is reserved solely for choosing vengeance as expected. I would have liked it if John got to blind Micah in the epilogue though if Arthur doesn't get the chance, since Micah's corpse will always be blind when you return up there to get his gun. Bit of an inconsistency problem.
All his talk about not wanting revenge, yet every time it’s offered up he’s right there in the thick of it… Bronte, Colm, the O’Driscolls at that ranch… yeah this felt like just following the trend.

Colm O’Driscoll was at war with the Van Der Linde gang for years, and the shooting only began because Sadie couldn’t keep her head. And for the O’Driscolls at the ranch, he even says “I saw Colm swing.. I just don’t care anymore” but Sadie talks him into it. Arthur really doesn’t care all for revenge, but he will damn sure enact it on Micah because he tore the gang apart.. All these years.. for that snake

@@koyo427 Well, yeah.. I guess.. but not all of them. Charles, Sadie, Abigail and Tilly were still alive. I can just think about Lenny, Hosea and Susan, if they were alive, they probabaly would've sided with Atthur, too (except Susan, she actually did it but got shot for it). Sean, I'm not sure but I can imagine him just going away like the rest and Hosea would've tried to stay neutral but if there's no other way, he would obviously stand with Arthur and Lenny, since he's pretty new like Charles, would've probably sided with Arthur because I feel like he like Charles has just a genuine good friendship to Arthur and would trust him more after everything. I'm not sure tho.. because I would've thought the same about Javier but at the end, this dude just straight up disappointed me.. I felt like a Seattle Seahawks fan watching the 2015 Superbowl and witnessing the horrible call of the Seahawks to pass the ball at the 1 yard line, instead of letting Marshawn Lynch rush through the Patriots for the TD and they failed miserably as how most people expected it and the ball got even intercepted and the Patriots won the game... Alot of people wished that Arthur lived but Arthurs character is at his best after he finds out he's sick it sparks a change in him and the game gives you the option to refuse rewards people offer you after helping them showing that Arthur doesn't care about money anymore Arthurs redemption doesn't start at the beginning of the game like johns it starts after he gets sick

I still enjoy playing as John after. It took me some time to get used to Jack in the first one. Rdr and rdr2 are both amazing games but I hate the endings of both but second one has better endings and more satisfying revenge. I wouldn't be that mad at Arthurs death because he was sick and dying but John was killed for no reason by the men he worked for. And his death would've been preventable if player had full control over the situation. I understand that Dutch, Bill and Javier had to go. They were outlaws and high gang members but John had been a rancher for years. The federal government themselves made John hunt them down and quit ranching for while. then killed him for it? What a shitload of bullshit. I wish rdr had 2 endings. Low honor John gets killed. High honor he lives. Sadly honor system doesn't matter at all to the endings.
No. If you paid attention during Chapter 6 the plan was always for Arthur to get the Marstons and Sadie out of there but also get them money. It wasn’t like Arthur was going to take the money and then go off and die in the woods. He was going share it with the Marstons and Sadie. Why do you think Abigail gave him the key? Especially at that point Arthur thought John was dead and he wanted to get the money to Abigail and Jack so they wouldn’t be impoverished trying to make it on their own.
5:04 you can hear the utter exhaustion and FRUSTRATION in Arthur’s voice, Micah killed Susan, and Arthur is stabbed in the back by him bleeding out and Dutch STILL needs convincing. “him... HIM!!!” Like Dutch your son basically, is BLEEDING OUT AND SCREAMING FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND, AT LEAST UNDERSTAND IF NOTHING ELSE.
Dutch had lost his mind at this point. I think he realised what he’d done when he saved John, shooting Micah and giving him the opportunity to take advantage.
This ending is absolutely perfect when considering the theme of revenge in the series. “Revenge is a fools game”, is repeated constantly and revenge is the downfall of each protagonist.
What? Revenge isn't the downfall of any of the Red Desd protagonists. Arthur gets TB because scummy stuff and in either ending his final moments are not due to revenge. John dies in one due to being betrayed while he tried to have a normal life
@@shadows_star With this ending, Arthur’s goes for revenge on Micah and Dutch, John gets revenge on the gang, and Jack gets revenge for John which just keeps the cycle going. John was forced to hunt down the gang but he was also doing it for himself since they did in fact leave him to die.
in the good honor version of going back for the money, Arthur tells Micah he came back to kill him, he just knew going for the money would draw him out but in the bad honor version yeah Arthur chose money over helping his friend

How many times throughout the game do you cross paths with despicable types of people like the KKK and the old former slaver who lost everything and even when you execute that poor bastard while he's on his knees and blubbering up a storm it gains you honor. In my last play through I paused and pondered a while and I seriously was going back "for the money" knowing full well it was about revenge on Micah and spiting Dutch, but by the time I made the call the game decided for me to save john!! Ugh lol. Time to play it all over again.
I feel like it would've been a tad more noble if, in High Honor mode, he tells John he'd just slow him down, and that he'll try to distract Dutch and Micah as long as he can.
Yeah cuz this ending is good too its just that John and Abigail have a child and the first thing that will come to a persons mind is the morality and self dignified choice to makes sure Jack is safe....

i literally cried through the whole thing, from the horse dying to arthur dying, i had my horse the entire story and it dying hit me pretty hard, almost like an actual pet.
This ending makes most sense to me for two main reasons. One it makes sense that Arthur would at least try for the money, I went back for revenge and to kill micah. It also makes sense for johns case because Arthur distracted all the pinkertons by going back and killing a bunch allowing John to slip away. Also it makes sense 8 years later when John confronts Micah on the mountain that Micah would miss most of his shots on John due to his eyesite and depth perception being greatly reduced thanks to Arthur.
I’m a year late but Micah failed his shots on John on purpose. Micah was going to turn Dutch in to the pinkertons but when he saw John he immediately wanted to turn John in to the pinkertons as well, so his plan was to keep John neutralised until the pinkertons arrived, but Sadie ruined his plan.

also, charles says he buried arthur and miss grimshaw, so it makes more sense to have arthur’s body also be at beaver hollow and not on top of a random mountain

It was never about the money. If Arthur wanted to get away with the money, why not sneak up and get it? He calls out to Dutch and Micah because he wants to face them.
Honestly it felt like that's what the writers wanted players to pick. The money endings seem to exist against the run of Arthur's story arc. If Dutch and Micah weren't around in the John ending then I'd understand the reasoning a little more.
TheRottenTrip I can respect that, it sucks that one is seen as the good ending and the other is bad. I think both endings should have been different but both happy or unhappy depending on honor. Because even if you have high honor the money ending is a worse ending I'd say
I love how in both scenarios Dutch stops both of them from killing each other, if you go with John, he stops Arthur, if you go for the money, he stops Micah, so much attention to detail by rockstar
I thought the exact same thing. I usually go for the high honour help John ending. But I really like how telling it is that Micah really did betray them. Like of course we know he did but to see him get scared in that split second and Dutch realising he fucked up is so satisfying. I wish they had it in both high honour endings.
I feel like this is aesthetically the best ending, even though helping John is more in-character, this ending is just better because of the atmosphere and the fact that the scar you give Micah remains there.
@@kaybevang536 yeah, while drawing the Pinkerton away from John and killing Micah, seem to me like the perfect ending, and to me make sence for Charles to find both Arthur and miss Grimshaw togather died at that spot, don't really know how would Charles knew Arthur's body was at that mountain.
Also because Dutch is a lot more confused on this ending and is a lot more fucked up. Either way, whichever route Arthur takes helps John, he diverts more attention his way if he goes for the money, since John makes it out anyway.
Prefer the John way but this good ending also prevents Arthur’s face getting pounded by Micah the Rat, instead the Rat gets a cut across the face as a reminder that Arthur could beat his arse even when he was dying but when Arthur died in this ending it was pretty underwhelming I prefer the mountain top version
When I finished the game I had max honor and didnt get beat/ killed by micah when I went with John Arthur watched the sunset as the TB killed him in my playthrough
@@ihavenoteepee i got this ending too even though through most of the game I was robbin folk and lootin and had very low honor. Ig i made some honor choices that were good at the end ( like the strauss one) and got barely in the good honor. Litty
@@SWAGGER573 the game is designed that way cuz in most cases you would've probably been in low honor most of the game both from your choices and missions and given how easy it was. Once he gets diagnosed he wants to be a good man somewhat in the end and try to help ppl and the honor multiplier and amount of honor you get from certain missions is to make it easier to achieve a positive honor rating

It is more peaceful. Plus it gets him away from the burning remains of their camp, a place that would remind him of the group's downfall, along with all of their friends that died along the way.
It’s interesting to watch this, especially knowing that I’ll probably never have it in me to go for the money. I didn’t realise Arthur still watched the sunrise if you went for the money with high honour, I thought Micah killed you either way. Despite having high honour though, it’s interesting that most of the dialogue is still very low honour sounding. Arthur calling out for Micah and Dutch and calling them bastards… it feels as though Arthur didn’t go back for the money and actually went back for revenge. It’s an interesting ending but I don’t think I’d ever be able to leave John behind. I need to hear him say “you’re my brother.”
2:04 Micah stabs Arthur with Arthur's knife then Micah proceeds to get stabbed with the same knife that had Arthur's blood on it. Which means Micah should have contracted Tuberculosis in this ending.

Wow Micah took Arthurs knife to stab him as he knew he would have to take it out to fight him which would make him bleed out more aswell as being a dead man walking... Still got his eye cut out...
It took me 4 weeks to beat the game and during that time I made Arthur's honor low all the way until he got sick, so i helped folks, refused to take money during Strausses final missions, gave Edith Downs money, helped a widow hunt, and finally i choose to fight with john than going after the money.
The way Arthur is positioned towards the sunrise while he's dying feels like an angel coming down to take him. Idk if it's just me who sees it that way.

Rdr 3 should focus on a bounty hunter going after Dutch gang but in the end , you kill him playing as Arthur but he warns Arthur that the gang will no doubt fall
would be repetitive! sure the main character will have a connection to arthur morgan, but rockstar will do probably something diffrent and surprise the fans.... like they always do!
I think that if Rockstar makes RDR3 they should focus on Jack Marston's future after killing Edgar Ross. Or at least tell what happened in Blackwater before the events of RDR2 Or even maybe the protagonist could be Gavin. Gav?!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAV!!!!?????
That moment with Arthur's horse hit me hard... I named mine Athena, she was a strong, Gray war horse... had her all game just to see her shot dead here... except I went with John... and good lord did that ending hit home, especially the hat scene up on the mountain... My Arthur was always a good person, by the end John considered him his brother, nearly by blood, and kept Arthur's hat and had nothing bad to say about him in the epilogue, Jack kept the book Arthur gave him, and John said how my Arthur saved his life many times... what you do impacts what happens, you get more dialogue in certain spots given what you do for others... the sick street scene and the final ride to camp for one had more lines given that I did the side missions... I was a teary mess by the time the sun rose and Arthur took his last breath...
Mine was a black Arabian named Winchester. I chose his name after the famed war horse that General Sheridan rode on during the Civil War. When I saw it die just like that I was saddened by it, since I had gone through a lot of the game riding around on it.
Honestly I like this ending more. "Help John" ending is nice and heroic but "Go for money" is more badass. Arthur already helped John to run away and he saved Abigail and Jack. Also he heard John saying "I got a family, that's more important." which means he listened to Arthur's advice to run and don't look back. He knew John will take care for himself and he can go back to the camp with his last breath to finish his chapter which is got his revenge and f*ck up Micah and Dutch. Even he didn't succeed he tried to harm them the best he could by stealing the money and not giving them everything for free. In "Help John" ending Dutch felt sorry for Arthur when he saw him dying with feeling that Arthur just tried to run away. But in "Go for money" ending Dutch felt totally desperate because he saw his best friend came back to kill him and that rat Micah to prove him that Micah is really the rat all the time. In the end Dutch realized that he f*cked up and betrayed his whole gang and his best friend. That is why after 7 years he helped John to kill Micah. I just love this game!!
This ending is wayy better than helping john -You go to kill micah intentionally (arthur says he's been waiting for this early in fight) - The knife fight scene with the whole camp burning around literally feels as if we are fighting in hell and dragging our enemy rather than fighting with fists at night on a mountain -Arthur slices micahs eye and bites his hand , and in epilogue micah has one eye (damn i love that micah spent almost 8 year without an eye and everytime he remembers why he lost he remembers arthur) -Arthur doesn't look like a sad helpless guy who barely able to speak/ (after dutch came in other route , he could barely speak like "oh dutch" or 'john made it') -Dutch tells/requests to stop fight you can he has that regret expression here from the start resulting that arthurs action and words impacted more , rather than stepping on a gun and ordering - Arthur works as a distraction for john as he leads pinkertons ,micah and other to beaver hollow or to him as he charges forward like a gladiator , and john can protect himself he has deadeye and the pinkertons will be after us that way. - If you think this is about money then you are completely wrong , sure arthur wanted money to give to john since he will die but he wanted Micah to have his own taste of medicine after him manipulating dutch , mocking him and being an asshole. - The soundtrack when you make this choice and Arthur says "dutch , micah come and get me you bastards" implies that arthur knows dutch is beyond the point of saving and why he wants to finish the job not for himself but for everyone who helped him and died on the way -Also if arthur takes the money he knows that he can hurt dutch that way after dutch abandoning and ignoring arthurs life and adivce it's like arthur wants to hurt him and make him realize just how wrong was he and how down he fell Extra space I really like how arthur screamed "Not molly dutch" "him" "HIM!! " and proceeds to say micah is dead from inside since he practically lost dutch and all , so yeah I prefer this one rather than other one
1000% agree. The help john/high honor option always feels extremely hollow and hardly impactful (aside from helping John) but here you annihilate Micah and tell Dutch how you really feel and you actions toward not only Micah but Dutch are far more impactful. Here you hurt both Micah _and_ Dutch. I always hated how the help John/high honor version Arthur barely speaks up and it feels like you die with unfinished business. I never liked how Arthur through the entire Beaver Hollow chapter never stands up for himself or sheds no light into the Micah/Dutch situation, whereas here he finally gets a last piece of justice. This ending is _WAY_ better.
It also explains why John says stuff like "He was good and bad, and it was hard to say quite what he was in the end" he respects and cares about him but is also unsure whether he was being selfish or selfless in the end. In the go with John ending that doesn't make much sense since he knows his last act was protecting John with his life. Also John is a badass in his own right and Arthur knows it, one of his first lines in the game is being sure John is alright despite him being alone and injured in a snowstorm.
Yeah, but that ending is the opposite of Arthur's choice in revenge, as he despises revenge since the beginning. I may be biased but the mountain ending feels better to me as Arthur dies facing the East, and gets buried facing the west. It is kind of poetic in my opinion as when he dies facing east, John rises up with a new honest life, and when he is put to his resting place facing west, he truly achieves his goal of leading John to the good life he wanted to have.
Of the high honor endings, I actually liked this ending more. Arthur is able to get some measure of revenge against Micah that will never go away while at the same time being able to help Dutch finally see Micah for the monster he is.
Plus I like that Arthur had the last word over them both in the end. Instead of Dutch and Micah talking over Arthur in the High Honor (go with John) ending.
As much as I love high honor arthur dying up on the mountains. There is a whole different level of gravity and some poetry to high honor arthur fighting for his life among the burning of his whole world. A world he was a part of for 20 years that Micah helped burn in half a year. I personally never went back for the money but I appreciate the cinematics nonetheless to know he didn't just get shot like all the other cutscenes show
My dad might do the same. Though he'd definitely not be holding the controller. Not because I would take it from him, but he doesn't like playing video games. But he does enjoy a good story. Even a 40-60 hour story.
Exactly! My horse was Buell and it added more sadness to this. In a way, Buell got redemption too. He started off as a stubborn horse but later sacrificed his life for you.
I completed the last mission as Arthur yesterday and cried during the ride to camp cuz I knew he was about to die. Then I cried more when he died on that mountain.

A lot of people preferred the "Help John" ending over this, but I'd argue that this one has just as much value. Arthur probably figured that if he got the money, he could give it to John to raise his family. If Arthur had succeeded, John would have never needed a bank loan to buy his land and build his house. Arthur knew by this point already that he had just days left to live. The money wouldn't have done him any good, so I always figured his intention was to A) Tell John to escape to safety alone while he distracted Dutch and Micah and B) If he managed to get the money he would later find John and pass it to him. Plus... One-eyed Micah!
I almost chose this ending thinking John would come back, shoot Micah, watch Arthur die and then take the money but I’m happy I didn’t because the other ending was so satisfying. Especially watching Arthur’s cutscene with my horse (Shadow) I bonded with all game.

Going back for the money is a way cooler ending in my opinion, running through the woods fighting Pinkertons with just your pistols, grabbing the money and getting in a knife fight with micah and Arthur giving a scar across his eye, a permanent memory of Arthur.
So it's basically the same end as the "Help John to Safety" ending. Only difference I see is location (obviously) & giving Micah a nice cut instead of a bareknuckle fight.
@@CaptainSalazar69 I did, have you seen the Go with John ending? Because its literally the same, money excluded. Either way, they both split up. When you help John to Safety, Arthur still gives John all of his shit & tells him to get out of there, so he can confront Micah. So either way, Arthur ends up fighting with Micah & Dutch, along with dying from the TB. Again, its ultimately the same, aside from location.
Brando J no. He doesn’t tell john to go away to confront Micah in the “help John escape option”. He tells John to go so he can hold off the Pinkertons while John escaped. Micah wasn’t on his mind until he ambushed him, whereas choosing to go back for the money, is really choosing to go after Dutch and Micah, knowing they’ll also be going after the money. And yea, all endings are the same in the sense of Arthur fighting Micah, Arthur losing, Dutch walks away, Arthur dies. It’s just a matter of details like location, weapons, and how Arthur dies.
This ending is by far the best. With the save John ending all you do is fight a little ways up the hill and still end up leaving him while with this ending, you get a badass knife fight scene where u take Micah’s eye, it’s less defined whether u would have lost the fight or not and rather than actively step on your hand betraying you Dutch kinda saves you and let’s you have a peaceful death. The only thing in my opinion that makes the save John ending better is the great view of the scenery at the end
I would say arthur would’ve stabbed micah in the neck here after biting his hand. Just like he was about to shoot him on the hill Dutch saved Micah in all probability

I did the high honor helping John ending on the mountain side but honestly I love the dialogue in this ending so much more it really seems like Dutch believes Arthur when he says Micah is that rat at 5:01 “not Molly Dutch!” “Him, HIM!!” I wish they would’ve added this in the other ending
What a beautiful game, I got the good ending and I died up on the mountain. This game 100 percent deserves game of the year it’s so good and honestly brought tears to my eyes at the end. A round of applause for rockstar holy shit.

And also the whole game was like 40 hours..which makes it harder for flaws to start peaking out. Rdr2 can be played for 100hours and still have a bit of stuff to do. After a long ass time it can sometimes get a bit boring, just a smidge tho. God of war story is like 9/10 loved it, weren't any flaws in it cuz it was the perfect length, but it just had a lot of back tracking..which was kind of annoying sometimes..just to make the playtime a bit longer. For rdr2 its 10/10 obviously.. it was super long and it had flaws..but in the end it was perfect for the sheer narrative alone. Gameplay is easily a 10/10 def better than rdr2 cuz like I said, it does sometimes get repetitive so for rdr game play is 8/10. Something that pegged me in rdr2..was that there wasnt a lot of upgrading that I would of liked..you can upgrade ur satchel and gun belt like one time and that's it. Also would of been fun to get some move lists maybe..ik it's not that type of a game but still. Maybe you could jump and shoot with slowed down time max Payne style.. I really wanted that. So upgrading is def 7/10 where as GoW is a 9/10. Finally characters..this is the toughest one because rdr2 has A LOT of characters. But I think I'm not gonna include strangers because we just dont have that many that stayed for long.. hamish was really good, but we didnt see a lot of him. Now the mains..must be Arthur, Dutch, Hosea and Charles because 3 of em lasted for the whole game..and well hosea because he was just lovable, but the REALLLY mains are Arthur and Dutch..which were phenomenal. On the other hand we see Kratos have a redemption on his own..and The boi growing closer to his father.. both ar just amazing, and mimir is the funny video game character that I actually liked, and wasnt annoying..he was great. Both game characters are amazing and I think rdr2 wins just cuz of Arthur alone but by like 0.02%. It finally comes down to what people are looking for in video games..people look for magic, fantasy stuff..MOST atleast. Some dont even like the western stuff at all. Like always..fantasy defeats realism. Rdr2 is amazing for how realistic it is, and GoW is amazing for how magical it is. People like fantasy more even before playing a game like rdr2.. and THATS plus all of the other reasons, why GoW won Oh and yeah music..I think gow has better just cuz of that one soundtrack..plus rdr2 most of the time has quite a generic old west soundtrack.. except the hill one :'(

I recently finished the game with this ending, treated it like my go with John ending by doing a bunch of activities and such. This ending feels like the most realistic one and most balanced one - it’s grim, it’s harsh, it’s relatively captivating. Arthur leaves a mark on Micah, a mark that probably contributed to Micah’s downfall in the end, with Sadie and Dutch using his blind spot as an advantage. Although Dutch was a skilled shot I doubt Micah would be caught off guard like that. More importantly Arthur wins against Micah here in all actuality. He strikes the final blows and dies on his own terms. I consider this ending as Arthur’s attempt to get revenge for Dutch and Micah’s betrayals, but also getting John some time to get away. In this ending he wouldn’t be going for the money for himself. He probably woulda given the cash to John’s family, and killing Bell and Dutch would have been a bonus. Something that is a point of interest here is that Arthur is actually directly murdered by Micah in this High Honour ending. His stab wound hindered him in his final moments, he was a dead man walking from the first second of the fight. In the go with John scenarios they are more or less evenly matched, and in Low Honour he utterly loses.

I think this the canonical ending of the game. I feel like first of all, if Arthur goes to the camp and starts fighting the Pinkertons, it’ll be a distraction to keep them off John. He also already knew he was dying anyway, so something tells me that with high honor, he would’ve took that money so he could give it to john’s family. Plus him scarring Micah gives him something to remember.

When i heard about the money ending i thought it was Arthur's greed but when i saw what it was for then i realized that either way Arthur helped john for both endings and if anything i like this ending better
Personally I prefer this ending... Arthur grew up in the gang and died in the gangs last camp after saving John, saying goodbye to a horse given to him by a dying friend and taking Micah's eye.
I don't think I've ever gotten so hyped at a "You Did An Evil Action" notification in a video game, ever. After being a goodie two shoes for the last few chapters, Arthur saying FUCK IT and going old school revenge outlaw petty bastard was so awesome
What i love about this ending is that Arthur isn't as severely wounded as in the other ending, it even seem that he is about to get up while Micah is almost on the ground, at one point it looks he is like "fuck off i just want to rest here" and he give up and let himself bleed to death, that ending is my favorite because Arthur chose his death, he knew that if he came back to the camp, the Pinkerton would chase him instead of John, and he fought one last time knowing he couldnt be saved anyway, and even if he failed to kill Micah he gave him a scar that he will never forget. Also the fight is much more in favor of Arthur, you can even beat Micah without getting hit once if you play well, also you can kill Micah with a certain way even though it block the game its cool
I can guarantee you that many more people would’ve picked this option if it said, “Go back to kill Micah.” Rather than, “Go back for the money.”

I know. Every time I play this game I still always go with John. It just feels like a waste to go for the money while also getting a high honor ending. It’s still always a hard choice.
@@flamethrower1273 I thought about it as being the rational choice for Arthur (or what I'd actually do in his position); he's already on death's door, so the best thing he can do for John is try to get him the money for a fresh start (I didn't think Arthur was getting the money for himself with high honour), rather than go on a mountain hike with John and just slow him down.
Also, Arthur does say that revenge is a fool's game, but he also calls himself a fool many times, so I found it fitting for him to go back for Micah.
I only went with John on Low Honour as I found that more fitting (Plus "whatever you say, you fool" and "DAMN US BOTH!" are some badass final words); it seems out of character for Micah not to kill you there, regardless of Honour, but with the Money ending you get stabbed at the beginning of the fight, so it made more sense for him to leave you as you're already bleeding out. Plus, I think the money low honour ending is the only objective wrong choice of the endings, hah.
I also think more people would have chosen the money ending if it was called "revenge" or "deal with unfinished buisness" or something like that.

I went back because I trusted John. I knew he was strong enough to make it on his own, and I knew that Arthur was dying anyway. I didn't want Micah to get the money, and I was hoping that I could get the money *for* John, or one of the others that might actually deserve it. I knew it was suicide, but I was dying anyway so fuck it, might as well take that 1% chance at glory.

Basically, the steal money ending is just Arthur wanting revenge more than him wanting the money. He's dying, he doesn't need it, he just wants to take it from Micah and have his revenge. The other ending isn't for vengeance, he gave up vengeance to ensure John's future. That's why we don't get to maim Micah on the mountain, the maiming is reserved solely for choosing vengeance as expected.
I would have liked it if John got to blind Micah in the epilogue though if Arthur doesn't get the chance, since Micah's corpse will always be blind when you return up there to get his gun. Bit of an inconsistency problem.

I wouldn't be that mad at Arthurs death because he was sick and dying but John was killed for no reason by the men he worked for. And his death would've been preventable if player had full control over the situation.
I understand that Dutch, Bill and Javier had to go. They were outlaws and high gang members but John had been a rancher for years. The federal government themselves made John hunt them down and quit ranching for while. then killed him for it? What a shitload of bullshit.

No. If you paid attention during Chapter 6 the plan was always for Arthur to get the Marstons and Sadie out of there but also get them money. It wasn’t like Arthur was going to take the money and then go off and die in the woods. He was going share it with the Marstons and Sadie. Why do you think Abigail gave him the key? Especially at that point Arthur thought John was dead and he wanted to get the money to Abigail and Jack so they wouldn’t be impoverished trying to make it on their own.
Imagine if Rockstar had lent John Seed's line from Far Cry 5 in Low Honor, Dutch would say "There it is, greed, always thinking of yourself"

This ending is absolutely perfect when considering the theme of revenge in the series. “Revenge is a fools game”, is repeated constantly and revenge is the downfall of each protagonist.

@@shadows_star With this ending, Arthur’s goes for revenge on Micah and Dutch, John gets revenge on the gang, and Jack gets revenge for John which just keeps the cycle going. John was forced to hunt down the gang but he was also doing it for himself since they did in fact leave him to die.
For me its not a good ending because John just say "Be Safe" while if you join John the final word that he says is "You my brother Arthur".

In my opinion the way Arthur dies here looks cooler instead of just breathing loud while looking at the sun, but I still overall prefer to help john.

This ending makes most sense to me for two main reasons. One it makes sense that Arthur would at least try for the money, I went back for revenge and to kill micah. It also makes sense for johns case because Arthur distracted all the pinkertons by going back and killing a bunch allowing John to slip away. Also it makes sense 8 years later when John confronts Micah on the mountain that Micah would miss most of his shots on John due to his eyesite and depth perception being greatly reduced thanks to Arthur.
I’m a year late but Micah failed his shots on John on purpose. Micah was going to turn Dutch in to the pinkertons but when he saw John he immediately wanted to turn John in to the pinkertons as well, so his plan was to keep John neutralised until the pinkertons arrived, but Sadie ruined his plan.

Honestly it felt like that's what the writers wanted players to pick. The money endings seem to exist against the run of Arthur's story arc. If Dutch and Micah weren't around in the John ending then I'd understand the reasoning a little more.

I love how in both scenarios Dutch stops both of them from killing each other, if you go with John, he stops Arthur, if you go for the money, he stops Micah, so much attention to detail by rockstar

I thought the exact same thing. I usually go for the high honour help John ending. But I really like how telling it is that Micah really did betray them.

I feel like this is aesthetically the best ending, even though helping John is more in-character, this ending is just better because of the atmosphere and the fact that the scar you give Micah remains there.

Also because Dutch is a lot more confused on this ending and is a lot more fucked up. Either way, whichever route Arthur takes helps John, he diverts more attention his way if he goes for the money, since John makes it out anyway.
Prefer the John way but this good ending also prevents Arthur’s face getting pounded by Micah the Rat, instead the Rat gets a cut across the face as a reminder that Arthur could beat his arse even when he was dying but when Arthur died in this ending it was pretty underwhelming I prefer the mountain top version

Once he gets diagnosed he wants to be a good man somewhat in the end and try to help ppl and the honor multiplier and amount of honor you get from certain missions is to make it easier to achieve a positive honor rating

It’s interesting to watch this, especially knowing that I’ll probably never have it in me to go for the money. I didn’t realise Arthur still watched the sunrise if you went for the money with high honour, I thought Micah killed you either way.
Despite having high honour though, it’s interesting that most of the dialogue is still very low honour sounding. Arthur calling out for Micah and Dutch and calling them bastards… it feels as though Arthur didn’t go back for the money and actually went back for revenge.
It’s an interesting ending but I don’t think I’d ever be able to leave John behind. I need to hear him say “you’re my brother.”

It took me 4 weeks to beat the game and during that time I made Arthur's honor low all the way until he got sick, so i helped folks, refused to take money during Strausses final missions, gave Edith Downs money, helped a widow hunt, and finally i choose to fight with john than going after the money.

That moment with Arthur's horse hit me hard... I named mine Athena, she was a strong, Gray war horse... had her all game just to see her shot dead here... except I went with John... and good lord did that ending hit home, especially the hat scene up on the mountain... My Arthur was always a good person, by the end John considered him his brother, nearly by blood, and kept Arthur's hat and had nothing bad to say about him in the epilogue, Jack kept the book Arthur gave him, and John said how my Arthur saved his life many times... what you do impacts what happens, you get more dialogue in certain spots given what you do for others... the sick street scene and the final ride to camp for one had more lines given that I did the side missions... I was a teary mess by the time the sun rose and Arthur took his last breath...

Mine was a black Arabian named Winchester. I chose his name after the famed war horse that General Sheridan rode on during the Civil War. When I saw it die just like that I was saddened by it, since I had gone through a lot of the game riding around on it.
Honestly I like this ending more. "Help John" ending is nice and heroic but "Go for money" is more badass. Arthur already helped John to run away and he saved Abigail and Jack. Also he heard John saying "I got a family, that's more important." which means he listened to Arthur's advice to run and don't look back. He knew John will take care for himself and he can go back to the camp with his last breath to finish his chapter which is got his revenge and f*ck up Micah and Dutch. Even he didn't succeed he tried to harm them the best he could by stealing the money and not giving them everything for free. In "Help John" ending Dutch felt sorry for Arthur when he saw him dying with feeling that Arthur just tried to run away. But in "Go for money" ending Dutch felt totally desperate because he saw his best friend came back to kill him and that rat Micah to prove him that Micah is really the rat all the time. In the end Dutch realized that he f*cked up and betrayed his whole gang and his best friend. That is why after 7 years he helped John to kill Micah. I just love this game!!

-You go to kill micah intentionally (arthur says he's been waiting for this early in fight)
- The knife fight scene with the whole camp burning around literally feels as if we are fighting in hell and dragging our enemy rather than fighting with fists at night on a mountain
-Arthur slices micahs eye and bites his hand , and in epilogue micah has one eye (damn i love that micah spent almost 8 year without an eye and everytime he remembers why he lost he remembers arthur)
-Arthur doesn't look like a sad helpless guy who barely able to speak/ (after dutch came in other route , he could barely speak like "oh dutch" or 'john made it')
-Dutch tells/requests to stop fight you can he has that regret expression here from the start resulting that arthurs action and words impacted more , rather than stepping on a gun and ordering
- Arthur works as a distraction for john as he leads pinkertons ,micah and other to beaver hollow or to him as he charges forward like a gladiator , and john can protect himself he has deadeye and the pinkertons will be after us that way.
- If you think this is about money then you are completely wrong , sure arthur wanted money to give to john since he will die but he wanted Micah to have his own taste of medicine after him manipulating dutch , mocking him and being an asshole.
- The soundtrack when you make this choice and Arthur says "dutch , micah come and get me you bastards" implies that arthur knows dutch is beyond the point of saving and why he wants to finish the job not for himself but for everyone who helped him and died on the way
-Also if arthur takes the money he knows that he can hurt dutch that way after dutch abandoning and ignoring arthurs life and adivce it's like arthur wants to hurt him and make him realize just how wrong was he and how down he fell

1000% agree. The help john/high honor option always feels extremely hollow and hardly impactful (aside from helping John) but here you annihilate Micah and tell Dutch how you really feel and you actions toward not only Micah but Dutch are far more impactful. Here you hurt both Micah _and_ Dutch. I always hated how the help John/high honor version Arthur barely speaks up and it feels like you die with unfinished business. I never liked how Arthur through the entire Beaver Hollow chapter never stands up for himself or sheds no light into the Micah/Dutch situation, whereas here he finally gets a last piece of justice. This ending is _WAY_ better.
It also explains why John says stuff like "He was good and bad, and it was hard to say quite what he was in the end" he respects and cares about him but is also unsure whether he was being selfish or selfless in the end.
In the go with John ending that doesn't make much sense since he knows his last act was protecting John with his life. Also John is a badass in his own right and Arthur knows it, one of his first lines in the game is being sure John is alright despite him being alone and injured in a snowstorm.

Yeah, but that ending is the opposite of Arthur's choice in revenge, as he despises revenge since the beginning. I may be biased but the mountain ending feels better to me as Arthur dies facing the East, and gets buried facing the west. It is kind of poetic in my opinion as when he dies facing east, John rises up with a new honest life, and when he is put to his resting place facing west, he truly achieves his goal of leading John to the good life he wanted to have.

Of the high honor endings, I actually liked this ending more. Arthur is able to get some measure of revenge against Micah that will never go away while at the same time being able to help Dutch finally see Micah for the monster he is.
Plus I like that Arthur had the last word over them both in the end. Instead of Dutch and Micah talking over Arthur in the High Honor (go with John) ending.
As much as I love high honor arthur dying up on the mountains. There is a whole different level of gravity and some poetry to high honor arthur fighting for his life among the burning of his whole world. A world he was a part of for 20 years that Micah helped burn in half a year. I personally never went back for the money but I appreciate the cinematics nonetheless to know he didn't just get shot like all the other cutscenes show

Exactly! My horse was Buell and it added more sadness to this. In a way, Buell got redemption too. He started off as a stubborn horse but later sacrificed his life for you.
I completed the last mission as Arthur yesterday and cried during the ride to camp cuz I knew he was about to die. Then I cried more when he died on that mountain.

A lot of people preferred the "Help John" ending over this, but I'd argue that this one has just as much value. Arthur probably figured that if he got the money, he could give it to John to raise his family. If Arthur had succeeded, John would have never needed a bank loan to buy his land and build his house. Arthur knew by this point already that he had just days left to live. The money wouldn't have done him any good, so I always figured his intention was to A) Tell John to escape to safety alone while he distracted Dutch and Micah and B) If he managed to get the money he would later find John and pass it to him. Plus... One-eyed Micah!
Yes, and also. If you got this ending by making Arthur COMPLETELY good. Its almost deserved for Arthur to gain something for himself.

Going back for the money is a way cooler ending in my opinion, running through the woods fighting Pinkertons with just your pistols, grabbing the money and getting in a knife fight with micah and Arthur giving a scar across his eye, a permanent memory of Arthur.

When you help John to Safety, Arthur still gives John all of his shit & tells him to get out of there, so he can confront Micah. So either way, Arthur ends up fighting with Micah & Dutch, along with dying from the TB. Again, its ultimately the same, aside from location.
Brando J no. He doesn’t tell john to go away to confront Micah in the “help John escape option”. He tells John to go so he can hold off the Pinkertons while John escaped. Micah wasn’t on his mind until he ambushed him, whereas choosing to go back for the money, is really choosing to go after Dutch and Micah, knowing they’ll also be going after the money. And yea, all endings are the same in the sense of Arthur fighting Micah, Arthur losing, Dutch walks away, Arthur dies. It’s just a matter of details like location, weapons, and how Arthur dies.

This ending is by far the best.
With the save John ending all you do is fight a little ways up the hill and still end up leaving him while with this ending, you get a badass knife fight scene where u take Micah’s eye, it’s less defined whether u would have lost the fight or not and rather than actively step on your hand betraying you Dutch kinda saves you and let’s you have a peaceful death. The only thing in my opinion that makes the save John ending better is the great view of the scenery at the end

What a beautiful game, I got the good ending and I died up on the mountain. This game 100 percent deserves game of the year it’s so good and honestly brought tears to my eyes at the end. A round of applause for rockstar holy shit.

@@xilyzz3104 I mean..the game play is fantastic in that game..and it has a lot of really fun to listen to lore.
And also the whole game was like 40 hours..which makes it harder for flaws to start peaking out. Rdr2 can be played for 100hours and still have a bit of stuff to do.
After a long ass time it can sometimes get a bit boring, just a smidge tho.
God of war story is like 9/10 loved it, weren't any flaws in it cuz it was the perfect length, but it just had a lot of back tracking..which was kind of annoying sometimes..just to make the playtime a bit longer. For rdr2 its 10/10 obviously.. it was super long and it had flaws..but in the end it was perfect for the sheer narrative alone.
Gameplay is easily a 10/10 def better than rdr2 cuz like I said, it does sometimes get repetitive so for rdr game play is 8/10.
Something that pegged me in rdr2..was that there wasnt a lot of upgrading that I would of liked..you can upgrade ur satchel and gun belt like one time and that's it. Also would of been fun to get some move lists maybe..ik it's not that type of a game but still. Maybe you could jump and shoot with slowed down time max Payne style.. I really wanted that. So upgrading is def 7/10 where as GoW is a 9/10.
Finally characters..this is the toughest one because rdr2 has A LOT of characters. But I think I'm not gonna include strangers because we just dont have that many that stayed for long.. hamish was really good, but we didnt see a lot of him.
Now the mains..must be Arthur, Dutch, Hosea and Charles because 3 of em lasted for the whole game..and well hosea because he was just lovable, but the REALLLY mains are Arthur and Dutch..which were phenomenal.
On the other hand we see Kratos have a redemption on his own..and The boi growing closer to his father.. both ar just amazing, and mimir is the funny video game character that I actually liked, and wasnt annoying..he was great.
Both game characters are amazing and I think rdr2 wins just cuz of Arthur alone but by like 0.02%.
It finally comes down to what people are looking for in video games..people look for magic, fantasy stuff..MOST atleast.
Some dont even like the western stuff at all.
Like always..fantasy defeats realism.
Rdr2 is amazing for how realistic it is, and GoW is amazing for how magical it is.
People like fantasy more even before playing a game like rdr2.. and THATS plus all of the other reasons, why GoW won
Oh and yeah music..I think gow has better just cuz of that one soundtrack..plus rdr2 most of the time has quite a generic old west soundtrack.. except the hill one :'(

I recently finished the game with this ending, treated it like my go with John ending by doing a bunch of activities and such. This ending feels like the most realistic one and most balanced one - it’s grim, it’s harsh, it’s relatively captivating. Arthur leaves a mark on Micah, a mark that probably contributed to Micah’s downfall in the end, with Sadie and Dutch using his blind spot as an advantage. Although Dutch was a skilled shot I doubt Micah would be caught off guard like that. More importantly Arthur wins against Micah here in all actuality. He strikes the final blows and dies on his own terms. I consider this ending as Arthur’s attempt to get revenge for Dutch and Micah’s betrayals, but also getting John some time to get away. In this ending he wouldn’t be going for the money for himself. He probably woulda given the cash to John’s family, and killing Bell and Dutch would have been a bonus. Something that is a point of interest here is that Arthur is actually directly murdered by Micah in this High Honour ending. His stab wound hindered him in his final moments, he was a dead man walking from the first second of the fight. In the go with John scenarios they are more or less evenly matched, and in Low Honour he utterly loses.
This really turned out to be one of the most emotional games I've played never expected that

4:26 I can tell Arthur would of killed Micah in the last seconds he had left if Dutch didn’t stop the fight, this ending he basically wrecked Micah
yea just like how in the other ending he would have shot Micah if not for Dutch stopping him so basically Dutch kinda got john killed cos if Arthur killed Micah john would have never gone after him

I think this the canonical ending of the game. I feel like first of all, if Arthur goes to the camp and starts fighting the Pinkertons, it’ll be a distraction to keep them off John. He also already knew he was dying anyway, so something tells me that with high honor, he would’ve took that money so he could give it to john’s family. Plus him scarring Micah gives him something to remember.

When i heard about the money ending i thought it was Arthur's greed but when i saw what it was for then i realized that either way Arthur helped john for both endings and if anything i like this ending better
Personally I prefer this ending... Arthur grew up in the gang and died in the gangs last camp after saving John, saying goodbye to a horse given to him by a dying friend and taking Micah's eye.
I don't think I've ever gotten so hyped at a "You Did An Evil Action" notification in a video game, ever. After being a goodie two shoes for the last few chapters, Arthur saying FUCK IT and going old school revenge outlaw petty bastard was so awesome
What i love about this ending is that Arthur isn't as severely wounded as in the other ending, it even seem that he is about to get up while Micah is almost on the ground, at one point it looks he is like "fuck off i just want to rest here" and he give up and let himself bleed to death, that ending is my favorite because Arthur chose his death, he knew that if he came back to the camp, the Pinkerton would chase him instead of John, and he fought one last time knowing he couldnt be saved anyway, and even if he failed to kill Micah he gave him a scar that he will never forget.
Also the fight is much more in favor of Arthur, you can even beat Micah without getting hit once if you play well, also you can kill Micah with a certain way even though it block the game its cool
