Finally " some " actual off road. People driving truck on rocks and sand and think thats off road lmao.. This terrain is not harsh but still closer to off road than other channel videos.

I wanted a TRD PRO, but I have to have a 6’ bed so I bought the TRD off road double cab with the premium and technology pkgs instead
Nothing wrong with that route. The TRD Pro is great if you're leaving it stock. If you're modifying the suspension, then TRD off-road is the way to go. Still get crawl control l, mts, and rear locker. In your case, you didn't really have another option.
Also for water crossings keep them brief so you dont have issues at the diff and trans breathers, preferably run lines to relocate them above water

Would you say the Frontier AX4 is the equivalent of the TRD PRO or more like a TRD OFF ROAD? No crawl control on the Nissan and similar bilstein shocks
More TRD off road. The TRD Pro has very nice shocks specifically for long durations of high speed rough road travel. As far as outright off-road capability, they are pretty similar, but I would give the Tacoma TRD Off-road the edge. For just about everything else, the Frontier is better. The 4th gen Tacoma is a different story though.
Why is there so much noise in the cab with crawl control? Love the look of the truck just curious about the noise
That's just the ABS pump running wild. Toyota has the noisiest brake based limited slip system I've tested. Check out my 2023 Tundra, Sequoia, and LX600 off-road videos, those use a new system. The old system was on or off, the new system uses spherical valves that are faster, quieter, and smoother. Almost no in cabin noise from it, just better all around. Thanks for watching!
at 8:40 I REALLY wish you would have thrown in the locker with mts before giving up... just for shits and giggles
I should have tried that before using momentum. Usually when I lock the rear it will make the rear slide to the side a bit (10ish degree side slope) and then it climbs up. I have had other vehicles struggle in this spot with the rear locker engaged before, but I think it has to be a perfect storm of bad driving (intentionally taking the hardest line and digging a hole before engaging the rear locker).

I''m sure you've heard of the time vs energy vs money conundrum. When you are young you have time and energy but no money. Mid life you have money and energy but not time. Old age you have time and money, but no energy.
With a higher clearance, slightly better suspension, would you say the frontier pro4x is better offroad?
Either can be modified to be extremely capable. If you get a high end suspension on the Frontier it would be a very nice off-roader. The Tacoma has more aftermarket options. Purely for offroading I think I'd prefer a Tacoma. For daily driving and even weekly off pavement trips, the Frontier would be my choice
Frontier is really disappointing, including for daily driving, don't even consider it for off-roading, it is not comparable to Tacoma. The steering wheel is impossible to use unless you are on the highway 99% of the time. Even worse, MPG has terrible suspension and no way to add Fox or anything comparable, and looks like an f-150, 0-60 is the same as Tacoma and the interior looks like my old Sentra. If there is one thing that is good about Nissan is the heated steering wheel, and maybe a better seating position, that is basically all it has. Nissan was able to build an old truck even after re-design.
That has not been my experience. I've tested 3 Frontiers and 4 Tacomas each for a week. The Frontier drives so much better than the Tacoma everywhere except off road. When talking modifications there are plenty of high end options for the Frontier, but the Tacoma certainly has many more.
I bet none of these people responding even own one. I guess my opinion is a little biased, but the Pro4X is an awesome truck, I have 19 my self. The best way I can describe the comparison is the Mustang and the Camaro. I would say the Tacoma is the Mustang and the Frontier is the Camaro. Taco is more popular for sure
@@nikotal.4282 0-60 is not the same, I’ve personally tested that out my self with a buddy of mine.. The taco is definitely more popular has a few more features, but everything else’s it’s similar to comparing Chevy and Ford. Mpg your wrong too, get about 17 city and I can get 20 on the Hwy, some times 21 if I’m nice about it. It really comes down to preference. What truck do you have?

Yeah this isn't geared that low If you put big tires on this it's not going to have much power. Not near as much as a Jeep. I mean considering mine is 56:1 and it's not even a Wrangler.
Yeah , if you put 35s on a Taco you also need to re-gear.
This is a very old vehicle compared to much of the market. Leaf springs aren't bad, especially if you go with a high end set, but I personally prefer coils for most applications.
Gearing does suck, but the 8 speed should help a little with this in the next generation.
4L and just rear lock..you'll crawl out of that.
Yup, that was somewhere in the test, I think. A selectable rear locker is something I think is a must for a daily driven off-road vehicle.
