Filming and editing this one was such a treat. What a killer group of musicians. Big shout out to the Vintage King team and Plymouth Rock Recording Co.
Very nice demo! I especially liked the part where three different microphones were used on the vocals. SSL definitely listened to user feedback. The raw tracks sound fantastic!
This sound amazing. From the experience of recording people think it’s the gear make them sound good but it starts with the performance then the gear brings them forward in the recording!!! I will be looking into this interface o do a lot of mobile work!!!
Gear definitely matters...I have a terrible sounding microphone that no one sounds good on. Although I guess if you're going for a 1920s vibe it may work? But yes, performance is number one! Room acoustics number 2 and instrument quality number 3. Then recording gear comes into play.
Thank you for your detailed and well-considered review. I just bought one of these for a songwriter that I am producing and it will be a game changer for our mobile sessions. Also, awesome song, performance and recording/mixing!
This was very good! I heard a few videos not going in depth. Some just gave opinions and read the brochures. I would love to see a part two working with the ADAT and outboard gear.
Wow I've always loved my 2+ and even though I desperately wanted more channels I couldn't give up the ergonomics and ease of use of it. Very excited to see this, instant buy for me.
Love that there’s an ADAT input I really didn’t expect that, thought I wish it was more expandable. I would love to hear this thing in person, I just got a new MBP and want a truly future proof interface
@@SlinkiestTortoise23 my only wish is that the RME babyface didn't look like it was designed for Windows 98. I spend way too much time at my desk to put that eyesore on it.
@@anylocal It’s not that bad! It’s extremely well built and the displays are excellent! I think it looks quite industrial. I can understand if people don’t like it compared to other interfaces but it’s the sound that’s the most important think and you can’t beat it for sound quality!
She has a Lovely voice, nice to hear someone who can really sing and Not all those efx's exhale. I liked the sound of the SM7b mic myself. Nice mellow track and we'll done video
The comments show that it’s all about a great song recorded by great musicians. Ears > Gear. When the gear helps the ears… Buy that gear… whatever it is ha.
Since there is no monitor-mix knob anymore, how do you exactly blend the mix with a new vocal track that you are recording? What exact feature on the 360 mixer does this?
The signal chain was a Vintage 70's U87 with the mic cable plugged into the wall patch from our booth and directly into channel 1 of the SSL12. The final mix has the SSL Vocal Channel Strip that comes included with the SSL12 USB audio interface. There was zero processing/outboard gear utilized going into Pro Tools. Hope this helps answer your question!
This is a good fucking review!!! My god!!, I´ve been trying to find a video demostration that could explain or expose how good is the quality and they just talk and talk and talk! fuck mate!!!!!!
The front inputs on the SSL are specifically designed for direct input, so you will not need a DI, unless you have a specific reason for one - example: Sansamp for color.
I have used an apogee element 24 interface for many years and I just recently bought an Audient id 24 and I just returned that interface today because the sound quality was inferior to what I had been used to with the element. How would you say the AD/DA conversion is on the SSl 12 and just overall sound quality? Im looking at either getting the SSl 12 or the apogee symphony desktop at the moment.
A lot of people beat up on this unit because they don’t think it’s sexy enough… Well, it sounds fantastic and it’s priced right so making it sexy enough might make it a couple hundred bucks more and that might make it just not something to consider… I think it’s disappointing. The money that needs to be spent to make it a 12 input. If that was really important, there may be another choice to be made. I would just call it. 4+, but no matter what, for the price easy to use, and sounds fantastic… Now the 4K mode, doubt, serious recorder, whatever use that because you’re gonna cook that right into the track and then, if you don’t like it and Mix down… That’s a gimmick
Nice try, none of the musicians watching this are as sick as the ones in the video so it’s never gonna sound this good lmao jk I’ve had the original SSL+ since it came out and it’s been awesome
@@vintagekingproaudio Have you tried connecting an ADAT interface? How do they solve the sync issue? Normally, you would connect a BNC cable from the ADAT interface to your existing interface, but there is no BNC connection on the SSL, so wondering how that works?

much respect, this sounds beautiful
I’ve listened to a lot of these vintage king demos and while they are always good sounding, this is sounding awesome - great performers!!!
Thanks so much!
Beautifully done

Outstanding music
Sounds very nice sound and great review, thanks. would love for you review the audient id44 mk2, this is a direct competitor and still undecided.

Love it!!!
Much appreciated!

Brilliant!! Did you recording this at 24 bit or 32 bit floating point? I'm very interested in 32 bit recording for my next interface
Awesome Presentation
Nice Job.
wish there was an adat out as well
I want the links to listen to more of this wonderful singer songs!
Congs to those who we're praying for more inputs lastly they listened to the consumers demand good
Dude, I was in *shock* when I found out this thing was only $500. I was honestly expecting it to be twice as much…
excellent ❤
Wow when will these be available? I would love to have one 😊
We have them in stock now!
Dynamic range of AD & DA?
32 bit
Such a killer band ! Nice interface :)
How does the preamps work with drums?
I read somewhere that the preamps are almost too hot for drums and that one needs an external attenuator?
The drums on this are recorded straight into the SSL12's preamps. No external attenuator used.
One thing for sure, I need to hear (a lot) more of that style drumming.
(:
how does this compare to NEVE 88M USB Audio Interface
neve es como Audient ID44 predomina el calor en bajo medio, SSL es un sonido más cristalino es como RME
Huh, never thought of putting sm7b on snare..
😍😍
Awesome music. Love the song. One question: Can I use it with external plugins?
Is there a way to track vocals and hear some reverb for inspiration? Not record the reverb to the track. Thx
❤
Yes of course. DAW plus the built-in 360 software console
rhat song was fire asf def showed what this thing can do
Since there is no monitor-mix knob anymore, how do you exactly blend the mix with a new vocal track that you are recording? What exact feature on the 360 mixer does this?
The faders section at bottom left
neumann + SSL.. omg, iam back to GNR era.. good job bro..
Where can I stream this track bro?
Dope review and dope track but im quite sure there's other connections. I know alone it's not just the u87 connected directly to the interface.

@@plymouthrockrecordingco.2104 sounds great 🦾
Hello. What is the brand of your bass please?
This sounds incredible!! What are the effects on her vocals?
It's mostly just the SSL Vocalstrip 2 and some additional reverb.
Stupid plugins, never understand how to use it...Give me powerful aggressive behaviour
u87 so gooooood
Where can I find this song!?!?
Miss hearing songs with gorgeous melodies... Stevie Wonder where are you? We need you back man! 😎
The groove in the intro is killer. What is that?
Is that just the SSL 12 with her voice are you running it through any thing such as hardware
Just the SSL 12 with and without 4K mode until the mixing portion of the video starts.

Hi, do you need a good DI box (radial j48 for example) for better results passive bass guitar recording?
What do you think?
The front inputs on the SSL are specifically designed for direct input, so you will not need a DI, unless you have a specific reason for one - example: Sansamp for color.
The next step DSP audio interface with SSL Plugins, who made SSL 360 this is a safe plan.

Nicely done, I have the SSL2+ hooked up to my iPad using guitar amp sims for my guitar going into my Apogee Symphony Desktop, it sounds amazing.
That shit is tight a f.
If my hi fi sounds like this I would be in heaven. But I would have to invest at least 50K.
Listened to the first few minutes...where did the bass drum go? Oh yeah, it went: nowhere. The highs were amaze-balls, but where's the bass?

Please don’t mention the “free stuff”
Too bad the Sabbath is on Saturday not Sunday lol
The day of rest
Too much reverb on the drums, IMO
Amazing how young singers replicate auto-tune... When I was young, they replicated Robert Plant or Aretha Franklin.
