Just got an SSL12 today. I had been shopping for an interface for several months now coming from a Focusrite Saffire. There isn’t a ton of marketing or buzz over the SSL12 but there should be. I have zero complaints and the sound is indeed right on. Great review!
I went a Motu UltraLite-mk5. Perfect Circuit has it for 10% off no tax, bringing it closer to the SSL 12 in price with way more I/O and smaller footprint. Seems like a no brainer.
Love your song and the lyrics made me laugh haha! This video made me feel better as I just ordered one myself and I started to worry that I should have gone with the Focusrite 18i20, but I feel like this has much better sound quality. Thanks for the review, can't wait for mine to arrive
It's pity that it has no physical switch for direct monitoring. I'm looking for an audio interface not requiring control software (I'm a Linux user). Regards!
Good question, i don’t know much about RME. I’m sure its great. The SSL is about half the cost and has a total of 4 mic preamps as opposed to 2 on the Babyface.
I see the eleven rack in the background. Do you still get much use out of it? I'm kinda moving away from mine mainly cos support in windows sucks. eleven rack editor doesnt work anymore, even after fresh installs I just get a blank window. sometimes its not recognised in windows etc. Just showing its age basically. Reason im looking at an SSL video is cos I think i will replace the 11R
@@irishRocker1 I only use the eleven rack for getting quick guitar sounds when recording. I just plug the output from the 11 rack into a line input on the SSL interface. I’ve never tried to use any eleven rack software. I have a couple presets that I like and it allows me to plug and play quickly.
None of the gear in the desk is being used. The only outboard gear that I use is the wooden rack to the left. It has a power conditioner, 1073 style preamp, and an eleven rack that I occasionally use for recording electric guitar. The rest of the gear belongs to someone else who worked in the room previously.
I’ve never used the feature but the SSL 12 does have ADAT in to control 8 more inputs via the software if you wanted to expand. I think it works with the Focusrite or SSl Octo preamps etc

Thank you! I used to have a Saffire 26 as well. This is absolutely an improvement.
I worked on the Eleven Rack project from its conception to release. Stoked to see it in your rack!
Great video, BTW. 🙂

I love mine, awesome bit of gear in my opinion. All the options other companies may have missed, customisable in the app. Worth the price tag. 😉👍
Same here. I totally forgot to mention the price lol
@@Rv_Music108 I'll pay what ever it costs if the volume goes to 11!!! 😂
@@leelenton Haha Absolutely!
bringin it back! love the tune hahah
Haha yep!, thank you:)

@@Doigenstein 😃 Thanks for the kind words, hope you enjoy it and make lots of music!
Love the studio aesthetic brotha
Thank you!
Nice video dudE!
Nice song! Love it for the demo! WOuld have loved to hear how it sounds with and without the 4k though.
Thank you! I have an older video showing the 4k switch off and on but it’s not great. Perhaps I need to make another video showing that. 🤔
Has anyone tried it compared to the SSL 2+ ? Does the 12 have a better sound quality?
I’m pretty sure it’s same preamps etc. in the 12 and the 2+. I haven’t tried them back to back but i’m sure the quality is identical

Love the vid. What DAW is that?
Thanks so much. The DAW is Pro Tools Studio
nice one :D
What DAW are u using on this video?
@@zica_nauticos Pro Tools
better than Volt 476p by UA?
better than RME Babyface pro FS ?

Slightly off topic question... What interface are you (or rather: were you using prior to the ssl 12) using to feed the ssl summing mixer?
@@PietroFGReal There was an apogee symphony before. Although i’m not sure if the previous setup was ever fully functional.

I notice you have a lot of rack outboard gear. How do you manage tracking those devices without many outs and no ADAT out on the SSL 12.
