I heard a difference even on my iPhone especially in the first example beat..but not enough to justify getting the new model. By the way that girl can sing her ass off! And production sounds nice!🙏🏾
yeah, sounds like the the mk2 has just a tiny bit more bottom to it and feels open, very close though, the older version sounds more closed or locked down , the top end seems the same though..
I have the full ssl controller setup. I was looking at upgrading my old presonus studio 1810 until i added 8 inputs of adat. So i would just stick with it. Now if ssl makes an 1810 or 1820 interface with the ssl 6K or 9k button with preamps then i will upgrade.
i've been on the fence about trading in my Zen Go with DSP FX for this. I like the ability of dialing in realtime with the Zen, but nowadays the native is pretty good and SSL quality is just great...
*update - so a day later I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Walked into Sweetwater and traded in the Zen Go for the SSL 2+ mkII and I instantly could hear the difference when I got it home! I’m happy in my decision! SSL for life! 🔥💯
You know BOLO. I still use the Behringer UMC404HD and I have yet to find an audio interface sub $500 that sounds better. I know this is my opinion but I also have the motu M4 and have used other interfaces in and slightly above these price points. The SSL sounds cool but I like the slighty grittier sound of the UMC404hd. The other interfaces sound too clean.
You might want to wait! There will be another upgrade next year..... And my SSL 2+ sounded so much better when I didn't hear the sound of my card swiping. lol
For me, if I can’t hear any difference on iPhone speakers, it don’t matter tooooo much to me. In headphones the + is a lil better imo, not enough to upgrade tho. But the + new outputs and Inst inputs makes all the difference
[SSL] 12 already has the updated conversion...has loopback, don't see them upgrading unless to bring all desktop interfaces inline visually with the new devices. ADAT is also an option. Also SSL has Pure Drive Octo.
@@kwrigh1668 compared to my focusrite 18i8 SSL 12 seems limited.. Loopback wasn't the only thing I typed, Loopback & TB3/4 Now if they go up to a 8 I/O unit that doesn't require buying a whole other device (ADAT) Then I'm all for that..
Great video! Watching it from south Brazil 👏👍 Unfortunately, the SSL 2+ MKII here is not affordable at all. Only one online store selling it in the whole country and at a cost of $778,00 (R$4.433,00), give or take. That's more than 3x the minimum wage per month in Brazil 🤡. Then you think, why not import it then!? Think again, because the taxes in order to do that will be around 92% or higher 🤡🤡 Hoping it gets lower prices next month 🙏
@@emanuelwhitehead6039 Yeah, same here. The original has more pronounced beat, while the MKII seems to have more mids/filledo out sounds. Which one sounds better to you? I'm trying to decide which one to go for vocals, the original sounds better because of the harder beat but the newer one is nice how it has a little more "middle" added to it, making it more rounded, but with less punch.
@@BoloDaProducer I use my 476 Volt using the 1176 compressor, fast attack and 4k when recording live instruments. It has a certain harmonic. But I use my Apogee Symphony for vocals.
I bought the 176 a few months ago and then upgraded to the SSL 2. The difference is huge, the dynamic range in the SSL 2 allows you to get better recordings and wider mixes.
@@sierrasonoramx I’m going to get the SSL in the summer, but the Volt has some kind of harmonics built into it for the instruments and vocals. I don’t know, my Apogee Symphony costs more than twice as much and it seems to be able to keep up with it. Someone covered a Beatles song with the Volt and it sounded just as good as the $60 thousand dollar Hum mixer. I don’t know if SSL is beating that.
@@DanteWilliams728 yeah, volt's sound is super warm and rounded, can help you achieve the feeling and quality from old bands like the beatles for sure, specially when paired with the right plugins but, for a more clear and open sound, the SSL2 will do and also, you can opt for a warmer sound when producing. By experience, I found the SSL as a more versatile and better built interface. At the end of the day, it is all about what you like and make you feel inspired! If you are looking for that warm sound, can't recommend enough to try Luna as your go to DAW and to throw the Burnley 73 pre amp on every channel.
I don't agree with that the new definitely has a better sound. Now I will say it's not so significant that I'd be missing anything if you didn't upgrade but if you're an audiophile you will definitely appreciate the clarity change
@@lovelegacy500 Yup. traded my UAD476 for the 4i4 4th Gen. And I’m a UAD fan. Been rocking with them for 20+years ). 4thGen is just that 20% much better sounding to me. I haven’t seen any comparos of the 4th gen vs SSL’s 2nd gen.
Tbh the only upgrade is the 32 bit conversion. I have the og ssl2 and it’s still amazing.
🔥🔥
I’m sold ! Running mine into my tlm 102 so this was the perfect video to find rogue.
Just bought it from Zzounds too
Damn, that lady killed it. Some old school R&B singing and instrumental right there.

Nice Mix on that track Bolo

If Ssl made a new version of the SSL12 or even an 8I/O That has loop back, Thunderbolt 3 or 4 i'de consider switching from my focusrite 18i8

Do you think that because the SSL 2+MKII is 32 bits it would have better audio than an Apollo Twin?

SSL's 32 bit fixed is not 32 bit float, meaning inputs still will clip and are not recoverable.

that beat hot
