You can hear him struggle to keep up that mad dog persona throughout the song, his voice cracking. Kiryu couldn't break this mans, but the song did, True Emotion.
In Yakuza 0 the takoyaki lady was like "He's a keeper, huh?" and Makoto went "He IS a keeper!" THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU KEEP HIM 😭😭😭
(Not so) fun fact: Actually, in the Japanese version the takoyaki lady just said something along the line of "Well isn't he kind/sweet?"
And then Makoto said, "Yeah he sure is"
Which shocked Majima because probably no one ever said that he's a good guy.
The "he's a keeper" thing is purely the English localization team trying to spice things up.
Because Majima knew that if he stayed with Makoto, then her life would always been in constant danger.
I admire Majima, he was willing to lose an eye for his kyoudai, and sacrifice his happiness for Makoto's life.

The reason we know he's in control is cause whenever he gets serious or drops the kansai dialect. That's the real, yakuza 0 majima we knew and played as. He only ever shows it to people close like kiryu saejima and daigo.

You can tell near the end that he's practically moments away from shedding tears. For all the "mad dog" side of him has helped Majima cope with his inner struggles, at the end of the day, it's just a carefully maintained persona... and it's moments like this where you sense the real Goro resurface, even if only for a fleeting moment.

Damn though the ending of Kiwami 2. The scene with the Romance at Serena got me a little and the ending. I still kinda wanna cry. It's just deep that Ending.

I couldn't help crying with the death of Tachibana, the worst thing is that they rub his death on your damn face, Kiryu cries for the first time for someone, and when it couldn't get worse... Makoto arrives and discovers that his brother died. He couldn't stop crying.

First half is his mad dog self, later half the 0 version slowly return.

And he didn't want her to live her life being hunted down by yakuzas. A normal life he wanted Makoto to live with. And deeply inside he cares about her of all the shit they went through with Tsukasa Sagawa, Keiji Shibusawa, and Sohei Dojima trying to kill her.
This is also why in kiwami 2 he doesnt say anything to her or even looks at her he doesnt want her to remember him and he doesnt want her to have any connection to him or she would be a target again
And Oda selling her into Sex Slavery to the Korean Mafia (Jingweon most likely), and her losing her eyesight because of it, they would've been perfect because Majima is the only one who could've related to her ( Got his eye poked out and was Tortured in THE HOLE for a whole year, and then going through psychological torture and humiliation, whilst being trapped in an illusion of freedom in the form of SOtenbori).

I've read somewhere that the studio is considering making a Yakuza game focusing on Majima solely now that Kiryu is no longer the protagonist. They said that the reason for it is because Majima exploded in popularity after 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2.
I think that'd be a perfect way to finally give the guy some closure in his sad life.

Actually the one who made the Yakuza franchise, was the co maker of shenmue and shenmue to be fair didn't feel dead for it's time. I know it's a long shot but that's the idea of the karaoke songs. Hell, in Yakuza 5 Kiryu is reminiscing about the dog in the orphanage and Saejima about Sodachi.
That's the irony of this song choice. Majima as a comedic character gets probably the most serious song in the game besides Tonight by Kiryu.
Those Makoto scenes made these extra chapters worth playing.
Majima is an amazing character. This song makes me cry. I love how you can see just Goro Majima and not, "The Mad Dog" when he sings this. He may be a bit crazy, but he can never fully suppress the real majima. It's heartbreaking.

This makes Yakuza 0 feel more rewarding and tearful when you play as Majima
that's why i think after 0 he's just acting like that to forget the pain
You can see he starts to act more reckless when Makoto is shot, that's the birth of The Mad Dog of Shimano
He went on a rampage like a madman.
But after it was done he decidet to keep it up as an act so he coud life the way he wantet to life.
i love how he basically reverts back to his old self at the end instead of the "mad dog of shimano" personality or what ever
What i find sad is Majima attempts to sing everything comically at first. But by the ending chorus he cant do it anymore and starts to sing perfectly. Thinking of makato forces the "mad dog" personality to drop as he cant take this song and all hes done with makoto as a joke. He wants to keep the memories as he remembers them
The worst part is...
I can see Goro doing this kind of regularly.
Its one of these moments his subordinates just wonder what he is doing, but everyone is too shit your pants terrified to question why he is singing a love song and seems to be drowning in nostalgia.
I kind of wish that Majima would only sing this song this way when he's with people and sing the song like Yakuza 0 Majima when he's alone.
Even though majima’s pitch had a happy tone the lyrics are depressing af
They are, indeed. Even Kiryu’s track was depressing when they put flashbacks of Nishiki and two other people close to him. Hell, you can even still feel Kiryu’s pain in some parts of Kiwami 2 like him revisiting Serena a year later. For these 2 yakuzas, Kiryu just wishes he could rewind and go back where his family members are still alive while Majima wishes he had a normal life with Makoto so he can keep her out of danger in case another yakuza or another villain uses her as a shield or lure.
