TRULY INSPIRING! Gotta say, too, that the extra touches in video production was great. (Like the text falling out of the bucket… very cool) A few years ago, we built an indoor shower that was made to look like an outdoor shower… we used more landscape construction rather than typical indoor methods. Our budget was next to nothing, We went to Home Depot and discovered that a lame, plastic shower pan was $180… and I was like: NO WAY! @TheHiddenHomestead that would be great! I'm also very curious how you clean it with so many little grooves. I'm sure you can't take a brush to it or else it would scratch.
@@Steven-e7c no we actually do use an electric oscillating soft bristle brush with 50/50 water/vinegar spray. Every once in awhile we’ll need to use something a little stronger to get rid of the really stubborn soap scum.
The best shower ive ever seen....looks like a million bucks....im sure it wasnt overly expensive either:) How much did it cost all up to complete the shower?
Well that topped everything else....I've officially seen it all. That was honestly truly absolutely amazing. I'd love to know how many hrs you have in that project. Damn truly awesome!
Hey thank you! From demo to clean up I probably have about 75-80 hours. That was of course by myself and a lot of it was spent going up and down the steps. 😮💨
Sir you are an inspiration. What you have created out of cement is mind blowing. I am building my shower. I’ve tirelessly been searching for videos on how to stamp my cement floors. I would sure appreciate any advice.
Thank you very much! I don’t have a direct link for any more information on it really but I do have an online course for vertical concrete if you’re interested in that. As far as waterproofing it was no different than doing a tile shower. As in I preformed all of the the same steps and practices as you would if you were to install a tile shower.
It’s really not bad. Theres cracks and crevices but it’s not porous. The paint I use is a high acrylic exterior paint that has “mold/mildew prohibitors”. Which I think has helped. Then every other day or so it gets sprayed down with 50/50 water vinegar mixture. And once every other week we do a quick scrub down with the water/vinegar and a soft bristle brush.
Not the style I'd have chose but gotta admire the craftsmanship & the profound weirdness. Does the sealer do a good job keeping moisture out of the slabs?
Thank you. It takes more to clean then a regular shower but it’s not that bad actually. Every other shower or so we spray it down with 50/50 water vinegar. Then once a week while I’m in the shower I spray it with the water/vinegar and do a quick scrub with a long soft bristle brush.
Super neat!!! How do you guys like it after a couple years? I want to replace our tile shower for the same reasons you mentioned. So how’s concrete holding up with mold and mildew?
Thanks! Concrete’s doing great. Cleaning isn’t all that bad really. Takes a little more then most showers but thats ok considering it definitely is more than most showers.
Two questions... 1) What did you use over the PVC liner and how did you fasten it down to keep it from moving? 2) How did you get your concrete to stick to the foam and not lift off?
After the liner went down I used the same mix design that I used for the rest of the shower, which was my mix I created for vertical concrete. All I did with the liner was staple the very top edge and glued the seams (as recommended by the factory) to keep it all in place. Again, I used my vertical concrete mix design to cover everything. It’s made specifically for vertical surfaces so it’s pretty sticky and will hold to a lot of different surfaces as long as it’s not built out to much. What I mean by that is, the more it’s built out the heavier it will get. Even though it’s a sticky mix, gravity will eventually win.
@@TheHiddenHomestead In the video, it looked like you had put down some cement board or something over the liner. It could just be a visual illusion. It doesn't try to shift/move without something like lathe or cement board to hold it in place?
@@paramax55 oh yes. The cement board was placed on the walls which overlaid the liner. Of course, no screws securing the cement board was installed below the liners edge. The other thing that could have helped secure the liner was the drain itself, but there was no glue or mechanical means to secure the liner in place. Once in place, it will maintain its shape for the most part until you pour the concrete bed on top of it.
just found this video. amazing work! Is there any issues with water standing in the big gaps? would you grout the spaces just i case ? I would like to make something like this but i worry about the possible mold and cleaning issues. is it fairly easy to keep clean and maintained?
All the edges/gaps were shaped downward to allow drainage of excess water. The whole thing is essentially one big grout piece so I wouldn’t worry about it. Plus it’s sealed up with the paint and impregnating sealer. Speaking of paint; I use a high acrylic outdoor paint with mold prohibitors in it. I’m not sure what exactly is in the paint but it does help keep the growth of mold down. As far as maintenance and cleaning it is fairly easy… considering what it is anyway. It definitely takes more to clean then a normal shower. But. It’s not a normal shower. First thing to consider is a water softener. This will keep a lot of the calcium buildup from forming. Second we spray it down with a 50/50 mix of water/vinegar one or two times a week. Then, once or twice a month we scrub it down with an electric powered rotating soft bristle brush and more water/vinegar. It’s really not as difficult as some would think.
Hey bud I've been working on my shower forever now and getting down to the painting or staining process. I was just wondering what kind of paint you used.
I’ve been playing around with that kind of stuff for about 5-6 years. I never took any classes for it but wanted to go to Disney so I could actually see and touch everything. I knew enough about doing it that just being there to see it up close gave me a better idea of how to manipulate the mortar. It’s astonishing of how much concrete is actually there though. Even in the animal kingdom safari ride the “mud” and “dirt” roads are concrete. The roof bolts were a fun little addition. I had a little left over mortar and thought “hmm why not?”. Im glad you enjoyed it and thank you!
Fantastic. Cheers! I’m going to try and learn as much as I can to do something similar. Thanks for the inspiration. if you could share a few tips that would be awesome!
@@TheHiddenHomestead I’ll reach out to you on Instagram when I get a chance. We’ve been working pretty long hours here in Houston after the freeze that left everyone with busted pipes! Thanks again!
It looks amazing, and full credit for your film set of a shower room. But I am concerned about the upkeep. That looks like it'd be a nightmare to clean... is it?
Thank you! Well, I’ll say that it’s not an average shower so admittedly it does take longer than average to clean. That being said, it’s really not that bad. Two to three times a week we do a quick spray down with a 50/50 water/vinegar mix after we shower. Every other week we use the same mix and scrub it down with a powered/rotating medium bristle brush. We have a few different shaped heads that we can use to get in all the hard to reach areas. Then if needed, once or twice a year we’ll go in and use something a little stronger than the water/vinegar if there’s a lot of soap scum build up. It normally doesn’t get that bad though if we stay on it with the water/vinegar mix.
How would you scale that down? What I mean is, if I want to be able to do that, I need to practice starting off on the small scale, any recommendations?
There’s no difference in technique or the mix used. You would literally and simply just scale it down. There’s a few different ways you could do that. Use plywood to build some 2x2 or 4x4 sample boards. Prep it the same way that you would if you were installing tile or an exterior wainscoting then start slinging the mortar on. Another way is to roll out some plastic and just make blobs of different shapes on it using the mortar then carve and shape them to mimic stone or wood.

@@TheHiddenHomestead great to know. Thanks for the quick reply.
Work of art
🙏🙏 thank you!
Looks fantastic
Thank you!!
The best shower ive ever seen....looks like a million bucks....im sure it wasnt overly expensive either:) How much did it cost all up to complete the shower?
Thank you. Material for it wasn’t that expensive. I think it ended up being 700-800 for the whole thing.
Absolutely amazing!!!! What an artist!!!!
Thank you!!!
This is simply exquisite !!! Congrats on your masterpiece, sir!!
Thank you very much!
wow .. man you MADE it ...
😃😃 thank you!!
Amazing! Very talented for sure!
Thank you!!
Dude that’s awesome!
Thank you !!
If only I had a 10th of that artistic talent...
You can do it. I believe in you!!
What the fuck just happened? 😆 This is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. I hope you are proud of what you do? Amazing work.
Haha! Well thank you very much!!
Wow. Well done 👏
Thank you!
Absolutely amazing
😁 thank you!
That is killer, might have to have you help when I start building!
😁😁👌👌
Absolutely incredible
Thanks!! 👍
Sir you are an inspiration. What you have created out of cement is mind blowing. I am building my shower. I’ve tirelessly been searching for videos on how to stamp my cement floors. I would sure appreciate any advice.
Absolutely! Message me on Facebook or Instagram and we can talk about it. Both links for my pages are in the description of the video.
That’s incredible
Thank you!
I would love to know more. Can you share a direct link? I am curious to know how it is waterproofed?
AMAZING work!
Thank you very much! I don’t have a direct link for any more information on it really but I do have an online course for vertical concrete if you’re interested in that. As far as waterproofing it was no different than doing a tile shower. As in I preformed all of the the same steps and practices as you would if you were to install a tile shower.
What's it like cleaning the shower? Lots of pores to hold moisture
So amazing ! I love the mine shaft idea 😍
Thank you!
Dude u are so talented
Looks real man the stone and wood u have done
Awesome! Thank you very much!!
Not the style I'd have chose but gotta admire the craftsmanship & the profound weirdness. Does the sealer do a good job keeping moisture out of the slabs?
As far as I know it does. We haven’t had any issues with it.
Just a word of advice. You need to start wearing a mask when working with cement projects or you will really regret it later.
This should have more views
😊😊🙏
It’s beautiful. How easy it to keep clean of mildew?
Thank you. It takes more to clean then a regular shower but it’s not that bad actually. Every other shower or so we spray it down with 50/50 water vinegar. Then once a week while I’m in the shower I spray it with the water/vinegar and do a quick scrub with a long soft bristle brush.
This is absolutely amazing.
Thank you!!
Bro seriously. You screw up a basic tile shower but then build a flawless epic cave shower from concrete. 🤯
I’m a concrete guy not a tile guy 😂🤷🏼♂️
Thank you for the great infos! Where did you get this siphon from, we are trying to find something like that, to use also with a wooden floor. Thanks!
I’m not sure of the siphon you’re referring to. Can you explain or what part of the video was it in?
This is badass..... I'm gonna be doing this to my bath for sho
Awesome. Glad you liked it.
just found this video. amazing work!
I use high acrylic exterior paints.
Did you seal the concrete? If so did you have to wait for a cure period and what did you use? How is the shower performing after 3 years?
I waited for about a week before I sealed it up and it’s still holding up well.
A real master piece but it needs more light perhaps a window and skylite and maybe a water feature in the corner of the wall
The window would defeat the purpose of a cave 😆 but really, thank you!
Artistic perfection!
Thank you!
what an amazing shower! have you installed a waterproof membrane on the walls, and if not, why?
Thanks. For the walls I installed plastic then Hardie Backer with hydro defense.
Wow! Just how long did you spend in Disney to pick that up? The roof bolts made it for me.
Awesome! Thanks. And you’re welcome!!!! What tips are you looking for? Feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or Instagram
You bring up an awesome point..
Where did you find the silicone molds of the tree knots and bent spike? I’m looking everywhere and no luck.
I made them with a two part epoxy putty.
