  • This step by step video tutorial will teach you how to crochet this poncho. It can be made from sizes Infant up to adult. I learned to make this as a child from my Tia Lupe. Using your own choice of yarn and hook size you can create this beautiful alternative to a shawl or sweater. Crochet using simple stitches. This is quick and easy to make. This poncho is made by repeating the same pattern until you reach your desired size.

Hi, I ve made your poncho a number of times and love your video. I modified it slightly, chaining only once between clusters and twice at center point. The poncho is more dense, has smaller spaces and still lays flat. Thank you so much.

I'm using 2 yarns crocheted at same time. One is white 4 ply (Australian) and a multicoloured eyelash yarn with a 4mm hook. Working up a perfect, snuggly looking poncho. Very pleased :) Will be perfect for my 4 month old granddaughter...

You and one other are my favorites. I appreciate the detail in your teaching because you could learn to crochet from any of your videos. I am also grateful that you do subtitles, even though I dint speak Spanish. Some of the best work I have seen are in Spanish and Arabic. They don't have subtitles in English. I like that you do for others. You are very skilled and a good teacher.

TY again Yolanda! Been using and watching your videos a long time now. :) However, I think Red Heart super saver yarn is way too scratchy and stiff for anything someone wears or a garment. I wouldn't use it for garments! :) But thats me! Bernat, Lions, Parson etc would be much better for garments!

Everything I've tried with your measurements has always worked perfectly Yolanda. The poncho though, seems to have a "U" shape rather than a "V" shape :( Can you please help? I was making this for my friend's baby's first birthday which is in two days and I don't want to have to rip it out and start over. I've followed your instructions to the T!

Yolanda, you are definitely one of the best crochet teacher in the youtube world. You explain and show things very clearly. I am a beginner and found your video very helpful. I just have one question about this poncho video. When you come to the edges (around 9.10min) where exactly you enter the last 3 double crochet ? You do mention about entering in the 2nd chain but I wish the video was little more clear. Thank you so much for sharing your great work!!

second do you think it would be and how hard it would be to make the neck piece into a hood?

Hello Yolanda, I have a request please.
So I'm a beginner at crochet, and my niece's birthday is next month, she will be 2 years old, so I thought I could gift her something I make, therefore I started with making this really super easy and beautiful poncho, and I was thinking about offering a beanie with it as well, however, I don't know what kind of beanie will suit my poncho, and that can be easy too.
I wish you can give me an advice and thanks a lot :)

Hi, I'm a beginner at crochet and am currently making this poncho for my 2 year old daughter. The pattern is very pretty but the problem I have is that it is coming out to be slightly curved rather than straight at both the corners on the base, as in the base seems to be lengthening less than it should with each row. I am using a size H hook and the same yarn as yours. What can i do to improve the shape and make it a perfect triangle??
