The KO2 isn’t hype. You’re getting what you pay for. If you don’t want the Kevlar sidewall protection then go with the Toyo AT. I tan them on my forester and they performed fantastic in the dry and snow
I'm going with the Toyo. better ride on regular roads.I rarely i go on rutted roads and trails.. Snow is a concern My guy at the garage says they are the best! Also said they are great on snow.
Whatever happen to the GoodYear Wrangler XTR’s !!?? Those were (back in the day) The Best and warrantied at crazy high miles. I ran them on every vehicle I had that was 4x4 for many years with never a blink of problems.
The Ko2 is good but is pushed by Global enthusiasts that are sponsored and getting them cheap compared to the everyday consumer. Buyer Beware! These tires don’t have a longevity, but seem to be nice while useful considering the price. Dont impulse buy just because Bf is pushing them along with every other uTuber. That’s how they get their sales.
I have Pirelli Scorpion tires in P265/70r17 and have been very pleased! I was running Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs LT265/70r17 load range C on my tacoma, and they were getting very noisy after 20,000 miles and they were overall loud and rode pretty stiff. I do light off-roading and wanted something that handled better on the road, so I decided to try out the Pirelli's which are a rather new tire. They are also very lightweight tires, so my MPG increased in comparison to what I was getting with Duratracs, and much quieter and smoother. When looking at new tires, I also look at individual tire weight as one of the main deciding factors as well. Falken Wildpeaks are some of the heaviest tires offered, so keep that in mind.
Running wrangler duratracs and they've been fine, nothing noticeable on fuel economy but I'm not lifted..really depends on how much you want to spend on new tires.
Yokohama g015 on a stock 2013 2wd tacoma. Gives it lift and picked a size that wouldnt give me more peoblems than help. I love them. I mostly drive freeway but i do construction and these jobsites are basically offroad tracks.
I put on a set of Cooper AT3 4S in 265 75/16 on my 2016 OR. Wow, what a difference over stock. Got them in Reno, and drove home in a snow storm same day. Fantastic tire. My speedo needle is now right on.
I have the wrangler ultra terrains and they are wonderful, offroad and on highway. Not any noticeable road noise or humming. The snow they also did great.
You left out the Falken Wildpeaks dude. Running the wildpeaks for a few months now and loving them, really good in the snow and ice. I think i paid 520 for 4 with tax. I love the tread and pattern on them as well. It has the snowflake and decent tread depth. I'd say save at least 250 and go with the wildpeaks dude
I'm also in the market. I run studded snow tires in the winter because we get LOTS of snow where i live. So I'm looking for a summer tire with some inclement weather capability for shoulder seasons. Mostly city driving but some back roads. Anyone have experience with the Yokohama Grolander A/T G015?
Hey Mike! I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 and I’ve had a few sets on it because I’m a lot less patient, so I have a little bit of insight lol. First of all pay close attention to the load rating of the tire you want to go with. My first tire was a 265/75r16 load range “E”. In my opinion this heavier 10 ply tire really degraded the daily driver experience and is complete overkill. With those heavy tires I took a ~3mpg loss and it was miserable for road trips due to the transmission almost never shifting into 6th gear and constantly shifting between 4th and 5th gear. Unfortunately the only options for a KO2 in the size you want is a load E. Then I switched to a Falken Wildpeak AT3W in a lighter “P” rating, still a 265/75r16 and the difference was night and day. The truck felt less sluggish, the MPG hit was less that 1, the ride was softer, and the trans was a lot happier. The tires are amazing, too! They do great on the road and have never let me down on the Arizona trails. They even held up to the Flagstaff snow storms without hardly any slippage except for a few ice patches. Long story long, consider a “P” or “C” load rated AT tire and you’ll be happier. I personally really love these Falken Wildpeaks, I believe they’re the best bang for your buck and attractive too. Hope this helped some!
The E rating / 10 ply is a good insurance against punctures while off roading...if you off road, and or pulling a load. Lighter tires do work fine on the street but it sucks when your off the pavement and you get a tire impaled by something left by the last vehicle that went thru or what mother nature maybe left for you. Ya gotta find that happy medium.
Any suggestions for replacements for my stock 245 75-16 stock Firestone Destinations on my 2017 Tacoma SR5?? I will be using the stock alloys and orig. size.
Stephen Maurer 235/85/16. You get more weight per square inch of footprint which translates to better traction, also less rolling resistance for better mileage and will track well. It’s all about physics. If most of your Offroad is in deep sand you would want a wider tire. I’ve run both DuraTracs and KO2s, both great tires and about the same for road noice. They were both quitter than the stock tires that came on my Tacoma.
@@TearDropTravels Thanks for the reply! I wondered about a sightly different size?? I was thinking of General Grabber HTS.... "all-season" truck tire since I this truck is my daily driver and I tow a bass boat a few times in the summer. If I do any "off-road" driving... mostly level logging roads on Pennsylvania game lands during deer season.
I went with the Goodyear wrangler. All season tire , I don’t do to much off road and when I do its no hard packed dirt , I drove the stock Firestone’s for the first yr but wanted a lil more aggressive tread pattern , stock was 245/70/16 I got 245/75/16 so far I like them
I have a 2 by 1 level and 285/70r17 BFG KO2 C Rated, and I paid $800 even from 4Wheel Parts. My wheels are SCS Ray 10 17x8.5 -10 offset, and I have completely no rubbing on or off road. The tires are awesome, I get about 20-22 MPG, very little road noise, and sling mud like it’s nothin’.
While everyone else is freaking out that you left Brand X and Brand Y out of the comparison, I want to know why you left out the weight specification for each tire on your review? I believe rolling weight is a large concern for many Tacoma drivers. I am looking at the same size replacement tires as you, glad you did a review/comparison.
I just went through this. If you really do your homework, you'll come down to BFG Ko2 and Falken Wildpeaks. Both are great, and I have many friends that run the Wildpeaks. They are just about equals, with ko2s leaning more towards dirt and rocks, and wilpeaks leaning more towards ice. They are both going to do very well in non-ice deep snow. I live in the NE, which gives Wildpeaks the advantage for daily driving (lots of ice here!). But ultimately I chose Ko2s for the good looks. I think I would have been happy with either. But wanted that slightly more aggressive sidewall appearance. I do 80/miles a a day on the Ko2s now. No complaints.
I had 245/75/17 Load range E DuraTracs on my 4Runner. Great tire and same road noice as the KO2s I’m currently running on my stock height 2015 Tacoma, 265/75/16 Load range E, I am going back to KO2s 235/85/16 on my Tacoma because the narrower tire just performs better in the Snow, mud and trails, it’s all about physics if you paid attention in school. The one shortcoming of the narrower tire is deep sand. I have 29,000 miles on the KO2s and they are at 10/32ds and run them at 40 psi. The 235/85 are the same height as the 265/75 tire and clear with no issues. The effective gearing drops to 3:60 from 3:73 with the taller tire.
Um explain more on what you mean in gearing. I am looking at the 265/75 or the 235/85 in falcon wildpeak or dynopros for my 2014 trd off road. I do lots of combined driving my work is 30 miles one direction up 2,000 feet and I want to keep mpg at its highest.
I will stick with the original P type rated tire size. I the three I am considering are the OE Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain, Falken Wildpeaks AT3, and Michelin LTX AT2.
General is a great tire ran them on last F150. Really good in snow belt. BFG is a good tire have them on Rubicon but over priced. When they go I will go to something different. I’m running falken wildpeak AT3 on F150 now. It’s the best tire I have had thus far 30 years of 4x4 AT tires. I don’t trust pirelli in AT market. On your list general number 1 BFG 2. But falken above both
From a personal experience I can only speak of the Toyo O/C ATII. It is an excellent tire. It's very good off road (even in mud and snow). On pavement the Toyo was super quiet and good for fuel economy. For such a well mannered pavement tire, it handled Off Road (6"+ Snow and Mud and Sand without a problem), the tread design lends itself to throwing off packed snow/mud/sand/dirt that can become an issue on other tires and degrade traction.
@@raif725 I am sure that they are great, if you offroad 90% of the time. But each tire weighs around 60 - 65 Lbs. Add 30 pound wheels. That's +90 lbs on each corner. Imo that's overkill for a small v6 Tacoma. Max's MPG is probably 10 mpg. It's just not practical at all for normal people that ride on concrete most of the time. AT tires are good enough for everyone & way lighter 285 70 17 Toyo AT "P" rated is like 46 lbs
I have had the Cooper AT3 4S on my 2016 for a year now. I live in Nevada desert. They do well in snow and also sand/dirt/rock. They are wearing very well. They don't look as aggressive, but they perform
I had the BFG for 2 years ran them till thread was showing they are extremely loud and got real Lumpy bought the Scorpions super quiet a lot lighter smoother ride and thick tread
The ko2 it the way to go if you want something it gone last far more than they other brands! On my Tacoma I got ko2 265/70/17! I tried all the other brands on my Ford F-250 power stroke they don't last! Maybe more money but more millage!!!
Cooper at3 4s. Superior wet traction, lighter, better fuel economy, quieter. Ko2s over rated, suck in wet traction, 3 peak snowflake doesn't mean much. Also heavy since e rated
Agree on K02, at least for 16” wheel where only E rating is offered for 265/70 and 265/75. If they made it in a C rating like they do for 265/70/17, I might consider. I could justify D rated for some added sidewalk strength, but not interested in E rated that weigh 7-9lbs EACH more than most P/C rated in category. Total overkill for a Taco IMO, and hard on rig and riders. Also drives like a pig with that added tire weight unless you re-gear; truck is already a bit underpowered. I’m going with P rated Wildpeak AT3W instead.
Lots of choices out there for tires! I run Cooper STT Pro, 305/70/16's on my Tacoma. They work great off road, fairly good in the snow, with weight in the back, but are a bit noisy.
They are great tires. I have (6) 315-75-16 stt pro's on my tow rig (f350 drw flatbed) i love them. 30k miles or so. I plan on slapping a set 33's on our 18 tacoma.
Make fun all you want but for the $ get Thunderer Trac Grip MT’s. Go read the reviews hundreds at 4 1/2 - 5 stars. I ordered some 10 ply 33” (285/75/16) shipped free to my house for $498 for four and mounted and balanced $23 per tire at discount. Very low noise almost none or even a slight hum. Just hit about 14k miles on my Silverado and rotated one time so far at about 9k miles. Cannot even tell they have worn and at 70+ on interstate smooth as can be. I’d give these no name “cheap” tires 10 stars if I could. They are rated 85 psi max and I am currently run 60 psi. Perfect and no issues. Go read and check them out before you drop $1000 or more. They look great and very aggressive. just my personal honest review
With 250,000 MI on my 06 Tacoma my first set was Toyo mud terrain. The next three sets are Yokohama all-terrain 285 75 16 E Rated I've chose these tires on the Baja 1000 80% of the people are using the tires are 50000 mile tires but the Comas are so light I have 60 two 65 thousand miles never had a flat good luck hunting.
I have used the General Grabber and the KO2 , they are pretty equal offroad but neither is very good in winter.. My favourite tire that is awesome on snow and ice and chews great in muddy conditions is the GoodYear Dura-Trac , Best all around tire that can do it all.imho
I've been driving Toyota trucks since 1986 and have had many different styles and brands. One of the best sets I had was the grabbers, they did everything well. Great on and off-road.
I personally hate the look of the ko2's. I've been running Nitto Ridge Grapplers and love them. The look and their performance is amazing. Plus I can barely hear them. I believe I paid $800 for all 4.
Hey Mike, i have a off road 2014 Tacoma and the Duratrac has been the best tire for me up here in Canada,. I'll be buying a new set this fall after 5 years. The Wildpeak at3 are basically the Duratrac's on a budget, so I would consider them as well. Happy hunting.
I'm running Goodyear duratrac on my tacoma with your size at $800 for 4 tires, they are 3 peak snow rating and after 15k miles in the mountains of Colorado, I like them..i did consider general atx but pass on them because of heavy trail use. If you spending money on a lift, go all the way with as aggressive tire too. You are running offroad.
I recommend lift and tires immediately that way you can sell the stock tires and rims as a combo and full tread life. Im going to lift it before 36k anyway.
A lot of young guy lift and add larger ties and wheels, but do remember you CHANGE the dynamics the ENGINEERS came up with; you lose more than you gain when you do that. You tip over more easily, you have more blow outs when you push a tire size too big for your wheels, you lose mileage; fact is, the engineers have some idea when they DESIGNED your truck, think twice before you think you know better--you don't. But it looks cool? Maybe--to me it "looks".....stupid. Get the most rubber on the road she will take PER her specifications. Oh and I left out custom body work to make that over sized tire and wheel go in there. Be smart--not cool, and to a trained eye, being smart IS being cool.
Can’t believe the Falken Wildpeak AT3W aren’t on your list. Winter rated, amazing in the wet, awesome looking with an aggressive sidewall. From the look of ur comments section, I’m not the only one recommending these. Me and 4 buddies rock them and we all love them. Oh, and u can find a set in the size u want for around $450. Can’t beat that!
Hey mike, I have 265/75/16 duratracs on the trd off road wheels and 285/70/17 BFG Ko2’s on trd pro wheels (no rub, same lift as you) Honestly super pleased with both sets if you can justify spending the money, I use one set for winter and the other for summer, both tires work great in both winter/summer
You buy the K02 if your 60 % or more off roader and doing heavy stuff. Otherwise your wasting $$$ and paying for the look and name. A lot of 4x4 on Long Island NY have built up 4x4s and you can tell that they never seen dirt. The ones that are always in the dirt I've noticed that they don't have the best of the best. I guess they understand that it may break and you need $$$ in the bank to repair. Lol.
I have a 2011 Tacoma TRD off road and I went with the KO2'S..and I love them..if i hadn't gone with the BFG's i would of chosen the falken wild peaks AT3W..
BFG K02s. The saying goes if you wanna play you gotta pay. The reviews are always good. idk what shocks you have, but Bilstein 5100s are a perfect match for the Tacomas.
I have tried alot of off-road tires. My favorite has been interco tsl's which will go on my 80 yota crawler. My mud truck (73 f-250) had a set (36×14.50) a few years ago....and will be be getting a set of 38's this fall. My tow/ranch rig is a f350 dually flatbed 6.5" lift on 315-75-16 cooper stt pro's. I absolutely love them and will be putting a set of 33's on our 18 Tacoma trd long bed this summer after we install those Bilstein B8 8112 coilovers and uca's. I have about 30k on my stt pro's. They are expensive yes but you get what you pay for. My 02. Kurt
Ko2’s are the best tires and my ko2’s already have 45,000 miles on em and they still have 60% of life, I don’t like Toyo’s because they ware fast and crack, general they are loud wen driving in dry.
I have Goodyear Duratracs on my '17 Taco. I live in the mountains and they are absolutely phenomenal in snow and mud! Sort of average in wet/ice conditions. But be prepared to lose 2-3 MPG. Noise levels pretty decent though considering how aggressive they are.
BFG awsome tire u can’t go wrong Goodyear’s good as well but if u want good value wildpeak great tire there on my taco now .I have 50k on them now with a lot of rubber left.666.66 out the door discount tire
I would choose the Goodyear Wrangler

will any of these rub mud flaps? going to do a 2/1 lift on stock sr5
As long as you don't go larger than 265/70 you'll be fine with any. Above that its hit or miss.

Had K0s on my 08 TRD off road and K02s. Will be putting on my 2020 TRD off road prem. great tire.
But falken above both
I have the Grabber ATx. They are great! Definitely substantial tread depth.
Check out the KM3 tires
Insanely heavy
@@ROFLgator1 I was informed that they were really good tires. Matt Powell put them on his Taco, if I remember correctly he replace is K02's with them.
AT tires are good enough for everyone & way lighter
285 70 17 Toyo AT "P" rated is like 46 lbs
@@ROFLgator1 The Toyo AT "P" are the hybrid tires, correct?
@@raif725 No, they're an all terrain "passenger " 4 ply tire.
The Nitto Ridge Grappler is considered a "Hybrid" tire.
Also consider the Cooper Discoverer At3 4S
looking hard at those right now, any feedback on them?
Cooper at4s is amazing in the snow I've been running them for 5 months and have gone through everything with them
Agree on K02, at least for 16” wheel where only E rating is offered for 265/70 and 265/75.
I’ve been happy with the big O XT in that size. I’m not sure if you have big O tires in your area.
My 2014 Tacoma came with KO tires. Replaced with KO2 at 75k, and the old ones still could have gone another 20k. Very pleased with BFGs.
Running Falken wildpeak at3s on my 15 ram. Milwaukee gets its shair of snow and rain. 2 major snowstorm were no problem with them.
How are wildpeaks noise? They loud tires?
@@b-lew777 a little road noise but not bothersome or loud
@@joescott701 ty
I personally hate the look of the ko2's. I've been running Nitto Ridge Grapplers and love them. The look and their performance is amazing. Plus I can barely hear them. I believe I paid $800 for all 4.
Ridge Grappler, you will be glad
Mike i am from New Bruinswick Canada for me for the-look-the tread -noise General Grabber a/t x my pick
Market dominating truck deserves market dominating tires. KO2 hands down.
BFG most wins in Baja, Dakar, most popular around the world.
General Grabber X3
KO2 was the best 20 years ago... in 2022 KO2 sucks lol 😆
I recommend lift and tires immediately that way you can sell the stock tires and rims as a combo and full tread life. Im going to lift it before 36k anyway.
The size and type of tire is for a street Queen truck
You missed the best, Cooper Maxx!
KO2 Rides sooo smooth. I love mine.
Part of why I posted the video was for other recommendations. Reading through the comments these look like a popular choice!
Mike C you’ll love them if you decide to go that route
Where do you buy them for that price online ???
Hey mike,
I have 265/75/16 duratracs on the trd off road wheels and
285/70/17 BFG Ko2’s on trd pro wheels (no rub, same lift as you)
Honestly super pleased with both sets if you can justify spending the money, I use one set for winter and the other for summer, both tires work great in both winter/summer
keep the vids coming bud
Cooper Discoverer AT 4S LT Tire
Just upgrades to KO2s on my TRD Sport. They ride really smooth and look incredible with the white lettering out. Well worth the premium if you ask me.
Poya Fallahi how are they holding up?
BFG K02s. The saying goes if you wanna play you gotta pay. The reviews are always good. idk what shocks you have, but Bilstein 5100s
are a perfect match for the Tacomas.
My 02. Kurt
falken wildpeak at3w, best tire for your buck.
I have the KO2 on my 2000 Tacoma and they are the best tire I have ever had! They are truly worth the money.
I just installed the General Grabber A/Tx on my 4Runner. They are awesome! I recently uploaded an in depth review, if you want to check it out.
Nokian Rotiva AT I've had them 2 of my truck and they are a very good tire.
Falken wildpeaks dude. K02’s are now being over hyped. Their price comes from their “popularity”. Love my wildpeaks.
Are wildpeaks loud?
Ko2’s are the best tires and my ko2’s already have 45,000 miles on em and they still have 60% of life, I don’t like Toyo’s because they ware fast and crack, general they are loud wen driving in dry.
You’ve got your tread depth measurements confused; 16mm...18mm? I don’t think so.
I probably choose the regional one come with the truck.
Check out the Cooper AT3’s
BFG awsome tire u can’t go wrong Goodyear’s good as well but if u want good value wildpeak great tire there on my taco now .I have 50k on them now with a lot of rubber left.666.66 out the door discount tire
