I remember about 15 years ago I would consider myself lucky to catch an episode of The World At War broadcasted in the evenings in America. What a great show, I'll have to rewatch it now. Hope you feel better soon.
Saw "World at War" many years ago, got it at a public library. My first book on Stalingrad was by Janusz Piekaliewicz a very common book in Germany in the 80th. Great scenery and miniatures. It's nice to dig out old projects again. 😃 I'm already eyeing on this periode and location too or possible Bagration.A very motivating video...
Enjoyed that mate, glad you're feeling a bit better..I like the stalingrad set up,very smart....I think the major challenge for wargamers/miniature collectors is the vast range of high quality figures available! How many different armies have you got? I'm trying to stick with just one or two,but its hard! Also thanks for longer vlog,it's good to hear your thinking on stuff, and excellent to have on while painting . I hope you continue to recover..take it easy.
Vast range available? Not so much in 20mm any more. Manufacturers have really shifted over to 28mm and 15mm, and even 12mm or 10mm, and it can be tricky to find the minis you need unless from a very popular army/period.
Great update and a beautiful collection. Makes me want to get back to some of my 15mm WWII but I must resist as I have quite a few ancients and Napoleonics in the queue. Thanks for sharing!
That's a fantastic collection Fraser ! Hope You do the Stalingrad scenario ... As for scenery you can't beat loads and loads of loose rubble scattered all over the table to set the scene !
I totally agree, it’s an excellent series and still stands the test of time. I’ve recently got back into playing Rapid Fire using the Reloaded rules, I posted our recent game on your group page. Great collection, always inspiring seeing people’s collections on the table. Glad to hear you’re on the mend mate 😁👍.
Excellent work mate, I love how this project is coming along and totally agree with the danger of watching stuff, it really gets the cogs going on other projects 😂 I would love to know your recipe for flesh tones they always look great on your models
Great video and lovely collection. Super paint jobs as always. I collect 20mm WW2 and need to try out Rapid Fire, but if you fancy something more 121 scale I’d highly recommend Battlegroup. They do a lovely Stalingrad supplement too… if you fancy a few more 20mm metal Soviets or Germans you can’t go wrong with AB figures from Eureka.
Two great looking armies. Have you considered playing later with them, the fall of Berlin for example, terrain wise: ruins and an urban layout would work, the Germans would be a good fit, and the Russians would also work well. I don't think Russians were that anal about not using older kit, if it worked they would field it. Also, it wouldn't require much in the way of refurbishing. Just a thought.
Back in the day, I collected 20mm polyethylene plastics, supplemented with SHQ stuff, for the RF 'Storm The Barricades' Stalingrad scenario. Never did complete the collection and have since pared it right down for use with CoC. You could pretty much do what you like with your collection, but multi-based infantry would preclude playing CoC or a similar one man one figure game.
I keep my WW2 figures individually based on ferrous coins. You can then always place them on MDF sabots or magnetic sheets cut to shape instead of mounting them on multiple bases. 20mm is pretty much the ideal scale for both Chain of Command and larger, battalion-sized games like O Group and Battlegroup.
Nice one mate Lovely collection, for me it is Historically correct or just wargaming as if it is the later then a Tank is just a Tank and a soldier is a soldier keep up the good work.
Very nice figures and AFVs, Frazer. Those Britannia figures look dreadful in the bare metal and then quite acceptable when painted! I've got a small selection of AB figures for Russia - for CoC. Along with the PSC plastic models to go with them. So you're contemplating some early/mid German AFVs in grey and possibly some early German infantry?
Often thought about building a WW2 Russian army. I even bought three Airfix IS-3 kits when aged about 10 with the idea of creating a tank platoon to go with my Airfix Soviet infantry. These days am mostly into early war, so it would have to be a Soviet force for the invasion of Poland or Finland in 1939/40, or early stages of Barbarossa. But there’s something so grim and inhuman about Soviet forces, for the life of me can’t bring myself to do it. 😵💫
If you have a spare life there is the 4 book Study by David M. Glantz (author)on Stalingrad , I,m making a slog study of these books , Battle Group (rules ) Stalingrad, is the way I,m doing it .
The only problem I had with the World at war was that apart from a couple of episodes it was mainly the European fronts the far East was largely ignored.
It was only a dozen or so episodes long, so that’s a bit unfair. Being a British series it was inevitably orientated towards British interests, because that’s what the potential audience wanted to see. Don’t forget also that so much new info has surfaced on the war in the Far East since the series was made.
The hobby is endlessly fascinating. I really should invest in The World at War on DVD. Thanks for showing us all that terrain.
Thanks Mate 👍

I mustn't buy anymore stuff! 🙂
Awesome collection - definitely recommend picking up a copy of the rapid fire reloaded rules, a great addition to the classic RF2 version.
Think I might go down that route 👍👍
Great video mate, that is a serious 20mm Russian collection.
Cheers Stephen 👍

I think I'll probably go down that path Tim, thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the comment. I'll probably throw all I have into a city meat grinder and then Decide what's required!
@@vonketteringham I shall be watching with interest!

that was great, thanks for getting them out.
Might make a couple of purchases!😟
You might as well use that large Russian army that you have there... it's just a bit of a potential distraction from the Renaissance stuff
One concurs Peter 🙂

Ah the danger of a good documentary! You could maybe do the battle for Berlin or something instead of Stalingrad?
The Eastern front is my oyster!🙂

I don't understand how the piece of wall moves around with your sniper? Is the sniper removable?
The base and figure counts as the sniper👍
@@vonketteringham magic walking wall then? I can dig it. Kinda like a weird war thing. Cool.
