It's called a Morin Khuur and has 2 strings. This is the coolest awesomest band on the planet and if you ever have a chance to see them live take it. Check out their other songs and videos they are awesome and they keep getting better over time.
Morin Khuur 2 strings, Galaa is the lead throat singer, he plays the Morin Khuur. But Enkush also plays the Morin Khuur as lead. Watch him play, he is awesome. Temka plays the Tovshuur 3 strings, which dates back to The Hun era, which is where the genre Hunnu Rock comes from, being the HU's genre. There will be new bands in this genre to come. And Jaya too, flute, jaw harp, sings most of the ballads, oldest amongst the others. Then there are 4 backing members, guitar, bass guitar, drums and ancient drums. All up Awesome
I love this band. They take Traditional Mongolian songs that have been sung since the days of Ghengis Khan. The songs pretty much remained the same with modern guitars added. Now those weird instruments were used in those days. Now imagine thousands of Mongolians on the eve of a battle, pounding drums and singing this exact song just like this the night before battle. Mongolians lived for two things. War and Partying. I should know i am one and these are my people. What he is singing in English is the translation of what they are singing.
Commenting from the (now harvested) soybean and corn fields of Michigan! Great reaction to an awesome band! (I've learned more about Mongolia since first hearing The Hu Band than I ever expected.. fascinating history, but I'm just starting to delve in.) Looking forward to The Retaliators!
such a killer collaboration and a smart way to bridge American heavy music with Mongolia folk music and with a rock singer like jacoby shaddix of papa roach killed it
Not only do they have talent and an amazing sound, all of them have masters degrees in performing arts. Galaa has received nawards for throat singing as well as playin of horse head fiddle. Those instumrnts were custom made just for this band and thid sound. Jaya plays flute, jaw harp and sings 2 of the 3 forms of mongolian thoat singing. Encush plays horse head fiddle and sing all 3 forms of throat singing. 3 forms of throat sing differentiate by tone. Low, med an high. Obviously Galaa is low tone. These guys have broken the internet and taken the globe by storm. All because they want to share their culture. Evryone from all ages and demographics has fallen in love with them. They are impossible to dislike. The sound is pure HU a genre they named Hunu Rock. Designed to reach out and touch everyone who hears. Hu in Mongolian is th root word for HUMAN. You have just joined the family of HUMAN ROCK. I dub thee an official HUligan! Welome!
