I'm actually glad Rebel Moon was made, because it helps put to rest the notion that Zack Snyder was ever a "brilliant film-maker." I never liked the DC movies he cranked out, and I found all the Snyder fanboying to be creepy--culminating in the ridiculous "Release the Snyder Cut" campaign. (And when the much-anticipated Snyder Cut *was* released, it was overlong, dark and tedious crap, just as expected.) "Rebel Moon" shows all the standard Snyder flaws--obsession with slow-mo, zero characterization, lazy plagiarism of better movies, vague "I'll explain later (except I won't)" plot, overexposed orange landscapes, and the notion that "string enough cool shots together and you've written a movie." This is the Snyder formula laid bare, without any mitigating factors like pre-established characters and lore to help conceal the flaws. Rebel Moon is 100% pure Snyder--and it has proven that Snyder is pretty crappy.
I'll admit that I wanted the Snyder cut and I don't hate it, but as you mentioned that's only because it was mitigated with well established characters and stories. This movie is utterly pointless in just about every way, except for the fact that it exposes Snyder for all to see.
I think his movies are a hit or miss but when I'm glad that Rebel Moon showed is that he learned all the worst things from working in DC. The movie single thing about Rebel Moon makes it rebel moon because of all the dumb ass shit he did in DC including the toxic fan base. He ended up building up and the whole Snyder cut bullshit.
Same. While I found the JL Snyder Cut was ultimately an improvement on the theatrical release, this only emphasized the dysfunction in Zach's storytelling. I will also give Zach a little leeway as I hold WB Studios responsible for that mess in a big way.
@@SuCKeRPunCH187 Zack Snyder really wanted to make his own version of Star Wars, so here we are. The Wikipedia even lists this as a 'space opera', unless that has been changed.

That's what I said. The team should be Spider Lady, a REAL rebel with a real cause and the robot. Over the course of the action, the robot keeps adding parts until he's huge.
Characters in Zack Snyder films don’t talk to each other. I still remember that Zack gave Superman less dialogues and screen time than Lois Lane and Lex Luthor in his own movie.
For this to be good act two has to be wild....like if that robot finds a robot army for the rebels to use that would be cool and a new villain emerges that is a shock like a clone of the main character...it would have to be shocking and wild to make up for all of this but I doubt Snyder has it in him.
Zack Snyder is just another version of Michael Bay. He's a bad director that thinks shiny lights, explosions and other eye candy for the senses are what constitutes a plot.

If you want a good Explanation, it’ll take a hour to explain. But I’ll do my best to Summerize. Between Zack Snyder and James Gunn. James Gunn has proven to be a Better storyteller/Character writer. He and Zack Synder worked on the Dawn of the Dead remake Together. And that film shows that James knew how to present the Characters, while Zack had more of a Visual influence on the film and it’s Darker tone. And that’s what Everyone has noticed! James Gunn knows how to give depth to Characters while Snyder has always been a Surface-Level Director! Always working on making projects that have preset Characters, like Most of the DC cast, Frank Miller’s 300, and Watchmen. He’s able to do action and camera work, but he is a Victim to his own early Teen “EdgyLord” philosophy! And it goes to show that he is Woefully over his head in helming his Own Original Film! And Rebel Moon is just that.
I had fun with Rebel Moon! Good silly space fun like Star Wars minus the cute robots, puppets and family friendly violence. Just as silly but more hardcore. Can’t wait for the full R rated version. If you’re looking for serious space opera check “The Expanse.”
@@TheinterfaceTvSeries True, True…but then again…why does this film even need a Snyder Cut?! Ask yourself this question! What is the even the point of that?!
> says "women shouldn't be in action roles because those are for men" > immediately mentions Sarah Connor and Ripley, who are women in action roles Why would you needlessly make such an easily disprovable statement. Thats like saying men shouldn't be chefs because cooking is for women. In general your review is fine but there was no need to throw shade at an entire gender for wanting to take more action-oriented roles.
I never said that action roles should only be for men, which is exactly the reason I brought up the other women who were in successful action roles. The difference is in their direction, writing and acting. To me, it does not make sense when a small woman with no super powers flawlessly defeats 10 giant male soldiers. That wouldn't even make sense for an average male character. Personally it takes me out of the moment which is exacerbated by the fact there is nothing to connect with in the entire movie. I genuinely do appreciate your comment and watching of my video.
@@UglyReviewI found your channel randomly and I have to say I thought your review was great and some of your bits were really funny, BUT you definitely came across as someone who resents the fact that more women are in action roles and just generally a bit… I dunno, too obsessed with that. But overall this was great
@@freddiejones9713Strange that you should would think that, since he had a very specific criticism -- much smaller women (with no known superpowers) easily beating many larger, trained fighters, strains suspension of disbelief. That doesn't equal "resentment towards women in action roles". I would add another thing. Not only does it strain suspension of disbelief, but it thoroughly sabotages dramatic tension. The point of having a character facing off against a bigger opponent, or several opponents, is to create serious dramatic tension -- you are to understand that the character faces a crucial situation, will have to fight like the very he11 just to have the merest hope of surviving! Then zapbangbam, the hero easily wins without even breaking a sweat. Anticlimax, viewer cheated of the dramatic payoff. Think of it like this. The character is hanging on the face of a cliff by his very fingernails. Dramatic music, tension builds, his hands slip! And he falls six inches and lands on his feet on the big, wide, safe ledge that it turns out was just below him. It's just bad writing, so why do it? Apparently because the modern girl-boss character has to be shown to always be easily superior to any challenge (ie, 5exual politics). If this is the reason, it instead just waters down the strong female action hero because it shows that there are never any real stakes. The movie is just set to Easy Mode for her. Edit: Which is why older female action heroes like Ripley are massively better -- Aliens was certainly *not* set to Easy Mode just to make her look good!
@@freddiejones9713 As a writer, I've got more than one female warrior character, but the important part is that they don't fight exactly the same way as a big bulky man. The issue isn't her being a woman, but that the movie treats her like she's 6'6 and 300 pounds. It would be much more interesting if she won because she is a more lithe and they can't land any solid hits.
Oh Atomic Blonde is a far, FAR better movie than this piece of crap. It's much more grounded in terms of the fighting as Charlize takes a ton of punishment, the fights are balanced, she misses some shots and isn't portrayed as invincible. It also has better acting, writing, directing... well everything really.
The movie is terrible but the low key misogyny in the review is misplaced. For instance the argument that having a 130 pound woman, in the fight scene in the Çantina, is the reason the scene sucks. Every one but the guy named Gunner is using a gun in that fight (oh god was that intentional?). It is a terrible fight scene for several other reasons the reviewer stated but who cares whether Kora is a 130 pound woman or 350 pound man? They have guns, a five year old can kill a 350 pound man with a gun and a bit of luck. I wouldn't be able to hit someone as hard as Amanda Nunes. The reviewer even cites good action movies using women (Alien, Terminator 2 etc).
Yeah, the complaints work for the barn fight because it was more physical, but the cantina fight is exactly what she should be doing. She's a smaller target, she's fast, and the only strength she needs is to pull the trigger.
@@UglyReview I'm not gonna call it misogyny but I think some of what you said was worded poorly! for example I agreed with your comment on the fight scene. I'm definitely a blue-haired sjw type and halfway through the movie even I had to tell my bf "sofia boutella's character can easily be replaced by a man" because her being a woman adds absolutely nothing to the story. & yeah the fight scene could have been interesting (hell, even some parts of the movie) if we saw SB character play to her strengths (like be flexible, gymnastic etc) instead of fighting like a 100kg man (or even a 100kg woman arguably). Only thing i cringed at was "swordwoman" but different people have different humour. Great video btw, subbed. Definitely do more bad movie reviews

So zach Snyder is making Starhammer 40k? Dumb, dumb
Seven Samurai in Starhammer 40k 😂
All I heard was hate for Zack and his movie
That's because the movie is terrible and everyone who saw it hated it.
@@AnEnemySpy456 so that’s a good reason to hate on a director? Sounds childish to me. And wrong not everyone hated it, if that was true it wouldn’t be number on Netflix for two weeks straight. Only people who hate the movie is people like yourself and this RUclipsr just to give a narrative for other people who actually like. Stop the hate and get some help

@@weedsmokersanonymous6097 is that supposed to hurt my feelings? 😂 it’s facts little boy
It was actually one of the worst movie I’ve had the displeasure of viewing. I’m really disappointed in you.
I've seen infinitely worse.

True, True…but then again…why does this film even need a Snyder Cut?! Ask yourself this question!
What is the even the point of that?!
Oh, that's easy. Marketing. You get people to watch the same movie multiple times. You keep it in the news cycle longer. @@danielramsey6141
Great video! 🙂
> says "women shouldn't be in action roles because those are for men"
> immediately mentions Sarah Connor and Ripley, who are women in action roles
Why would you needlessly make such an easily disprovable statement.
Btw in Ahsoka there was nothing wrong with the fight scenes. Why are you even mentioning it? Would have been a good video but you just ruined it.

To this I'd like to respond with Charlize Theron, Atomic Blonde.
Even the Riddick movies are better than this bs
Star wars story was childish and I was done with the stupidity in 1977.

Good review except the misogynistic comments. I had to stop at arround 20 mins. It was cringe and just wrong
Could you please be more specific? What did you find misogynistic?
@@m1hfn2f I can't tell you how much I appreciate the honest feedback. Perhaps my words were chosen poorly but the sentiment is all the same. I am still growing into this channel so comments like this are invaluable learning opportunities for me moving forward. Thank you for the sub and the open dialogue, and I will be bringing you another bad movie review sometime later this week.
Too late. Loved seeing this movie 6 times. Haters and critics can suck it 🤷♂️
