I saw some of the code you wrote for the shuttle…it’s so impressive and elegant. Would you mind starting a tutorial series about how you approach your code? Nothing super detailed, just the concepts in general. I find your designs so freaking awesome, you should definitely do a tutorial on advanced GUIs.
Where did you learn about the exact workings of the Code Apollo use? I'd like to read up on this topic. Amazing video btw. I've rarely seen such an amazing recreation!
Thanks a lot! This paper www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/ApolloDescentGuidnce.pdf is a technical explanation of the guidance principles used and a formulation of the equations, while this one www.ibiblio.org/apollo/Documents/j2-80-R-567-SEC5-REV11_text.pdf is a description of the implementation with flowcharts and all that, but it contains all the routines and programs used by the LEM, not just those for lunar landing. I will also mention Don Eyles's autobiography for a behind-the-scenes look, he worked at Draper on the lunar landing program and became famous for the Apollo 14 "hack"
There is no such thing as gliding in a vacuum. The LEM procedures would call for engine stop once two of the contact probes lit up, to prevent bounces and rock damage. IIRC Apollo 11 was the only mission that touched down on engine power and so had the softest touchdown
You probably knew someone was gonna ask. Do you plan to release it? One more question, could you also make video with Apollo 15 landing. It had a bit different approach due to hills so it would be cool to see it.
I still have to clean up the targeting logic before I release it. Also, since the framework is adapted from my launch script, there's a lot of unnecessary functionality for staging and vehicle types. so it's going to be rather bloated which isn't really ideal. Apollo 15 sounds cool, although I'll see if I find a way not to make it a repeat of this video
This was SUPER awesome. I’ve been doing IVA only games and this seems amazing. Is there any chance you’re going to release the script soon? That was awesome :)
Even the spent Descent Stage leaped for joy at your script's efficiency! :D
This is literally a recreation of the entire landing guidance somtware.
Amazing!

Haven't seen a kOS lunar landing before!
This is so beautiful my god. Exactly like Apollo only thing I'd add for realism purposes is Delta-H and pointing the radar up during P63
God is great.
Hai spaccato Giulio. Continua così!💪
Man your videos are so interesting to watch
Underrated. That’s all I have to say.
Sei un fenomeno!! Absolutely amazing video!!
great video! super educational and full of interesting info, thanks for making it!
Amazing work!

Didn't the Apollo missions actually cut off their engine before landing, and glide down a bit?

This looks incredible, are there any plans to release it?
it's not yet robut enough for release as is.
Also I'm currently on a break from KSP because of life & job matters, I'll see in the new year.
Any chance we could see the code please?
