Any different colors or all white only ? I could use a few..Keep up the great work Lou, looking forward to it.
I have been a carpenter for 50 years, started out as a pattern maker. You are the best I ever heard at explaining things . The mark of a master is they make things look easy, and you make it look easy. I wish you many more years doing what you obviously enjoy doing.
I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever been on a boat, but here I am at midnight, watching a new tips from a shipwright video.
I'm so happy to hear you emphasize the importance of being pleased about what you do. I used to be a shoemaker and was tought to "keep the road clean", as my old colleagues called it (in norwegian). That meant to perform each task properly, so that the next one could be done with as little effort as possible, and it has been a "golden rule" to me ever since. Today I'm a sculptor, carving in marble, and the rule pays off like never before (I feel). Many of my colleagues focus almost solely on being productive, both their art and their lives tell that story so well, and you are not just a shipwright, Louis - you're a philosopher.
Poetry...fabulous to see and really well presented, practical tips from a guy who lives and breathes wooden boats..
Definitely buying a Tee Shirt to help my You Tube Buddy. That white oak don't come cheap. Lou, thanks for NOT shovin the latest power tools down my throat ...
I love trade terminology, especially shipwright's trade terminology. Lou knows every bone in these boats, and it's like listening to another language when he talks about them so fluently. Love it!
I don't know anything about boats. But I love watching you work. I love watching a master at work.
Great simple and fast solution to the frame repair problem. I hate seeing typical sister framing. It's such a band-aid fix that just adds more work to the eventual proper repair. You've been providing some top notch education here Lou.
Greetings from the land down under. I love what you are doing mate .I am currently working as a learner shipwright on the gold coast Australia but lots of the boats are fiberglass so I don't get to experience wooden boat work and Technic's as much as I would like to . I think what you are showing us is very important part of my journey to become a good shipwright . In this new project can you cover copper nail roving from start to finish and all the tools required to do the job as there is no much on RUclips covering the subject . I have learnt so much from your RUclips video's for example steam bending in a bag I used for a round table banding for a mega yacht ( my boss looked impressed with the idea )and pre bending made it fit much better. I love timber boats I think they have soul and and heart and all can tell you a story of there life unlike plastic boats that are cold to the touch . Keep passing your knowledge on because down here it is fast becoming a dying craft going to the grave with all the old shipwrights and some bountiful boats are suffering with neglect because the lack of this type of knowledge and in turn drives up the cost of repairs .Knowledge is no weight to carry around and sometimes the old ways are the best ways .
Lou, i fell like you are a family member I haven't seen in a few months. The skiff project was my introduction to your genius and I have a hole in my life since it was sold (twice). Please don't stop posting.
I absolutely love watching you work. Your passion and skills are very evident. You are a great teacher as well. I cannot wait for the new series. God bless you and thanks for sharing your passion with us
lov your videos I have been working on wooden boats for about 40 years nobody has explained the process to me better than you have thank for your knowledge
I would like to thank you for all the knowledge...you are indeed the best thank you...I buy all my marine supplies from total boat because of you
15:00 Lou is talking about caulking, but that's damn fine advice for most things in life.
Love this guy! I could learn so much from him! What a genuine, positive guy!
Whenever I see great craftsmanship at work, it gives me hope! You are the best Mr. Sauzedde!
Looking forward to seeing your new series. You are beginning it on my birthday and I think that it's the best 73rd birthday present I'll receive!
I'm sure enjoying your videos while trying to finish a small sailing dinghy of my own design as I have time. Thanks so much!
I love this kind of repair. Not a disaster, but serious future problem. Thanks for the video...Regards, Solomon
Hi Louis, I really, really enjoy your videos. I can watch them for hours. I am a 3rd generation master carpenter, my sons are 4th. I tell ya, its just fascinating to watch you work. The techniques you use I bet have been around since man started building wooden boats. I have wanted to build a boat all my life. I tell ya, at 63 y/o I've waited far to long. Its getting close to the time to make the time. If I was a youngster I would be looking for an apprenticeship. Keep doing what you are doing, really cool stuff!!!
Dear Lou,
I too am excited to watch you build the dory, glad you will be back!
Fascinating to watch a real "old school" craftsman at work, great video!
I've done the wrapping method on one of those plywood S shaped chairs. It had been left with one of the two legs out sticking in the rain (they are quite wide) and aside from the ruined finish, the plywood had gone undone. Long story short, i fixed the plywood as best i could and reinforced it on the back, inside, with a strip of wood. Hasn't broken in 5 years now and it sees daily use, flexing along with the original design. Testament to epoxy and a good technique.
Thank you Lou this made my day. Cant wait to see your boat!
Like the pace to your videos - not rushed and well explained. Thank-you.
Thank you for leaving your "mistake" in - it's really cool to see all the different things you can run into while doing this. FANTASTIC video as usual. Can't wait to see what's next!
you're a legend Louis. Awesome work. Thanks
I could watch these sort of videos from Louis all day long.😀👍
I did, until I ran out. Every now and then you'll find another good boat maker video or docu, but rarely.
Fantastic - it's always interesting and educational to hear a master craftsman talking about his profession.
Best channel on YT
apart from This Old Tony
Jody is a good welder too (Tips and Tricks).
and Mr. Sellers is King of the Plane and Dovetail (Paul Sellers).
Someone should compile a list of the guys (or gals) who KNOW their trades AND can teach it, AND have good video production (without a heap of selling/endorsing/whoring).
H'Indeed
Hands down! Well maybe Mathoger, too!
Man, it's good to have you back..... Thanks!
Awesome. Really looking forward to the dory build!
Bloody enjoyable video, Louis. Great to see craft getting proper attention and maintenance to keep them going for a long time. I'll get me one of those shirts for sure. Wear it with pride!!
Nice work... pure poetry to see you work!

It will be great to have you back Louie! Also you have a GREAT videographer. Don't change a thing!
So glad you decided to share your wealth of knowledge about boat building Lou. You really do explain things in a way that can be understood. Your commonsense mannerism is a welcome reprieve from overly complicated know it alls who really know a lot about nothin' at all... KnowWhatImSay'in?
Great stuff Lou!
Can't wait till you start the Dory ;)
Great to see you again Lou!!! Looking forward to seeing the start of the sport dory.

Terrific Sir
I love your videos and learn so much.
Great news :) Can't wait and I will have to order one of those shirts..
TR
Great info on technique, but i can't wait for the new series.
Dude you are amazing have a 1967 44' viking motor yacht im about to haul out in August to do the paint and fix any issues that may surface. Shes fairly water tight now. My bildge only goes off a 2 or 3 times a day for 10 seconds. I am a young man (27) and i want to learn the skills of past generations. This type of work is going to get lost in time. I am a machinist and i am confident in my abilities to repair my yacht bur your videos are very reassuring that its not going to be that hard. And maybe even fun 😥👍⚓
o boy, o boy! Almost makes me not mind summer being over!
Man you are amazing!!!
You are a sailors best friend........love you show....Master.
Master at work!
Great video
yeah!!! many thanks!!! im waiting too long for you videos!!!!! greettings from Argentina and im sorry mi english!!!
I live how much joy you get from caulking.
Also, do you have a patreon page? I don't want a t shirt, but I'd happily throw a couple of bucks your way every now and then. I do like your videos, and think it's only fair you should be rewarded for bringing pleasure and knowledge to so many people. You have more than earned it
Ordered! I needed a good boatbuilding shirt!
Fab!
nice video, noticed how tight the seams are usually for me in the past someone has been there before and over caulked the seam. T shirt order on the way cheers Les
I'm looking forward to the new Dory built but I hope that you will make a video of the finishing take left on the Herrishof.
Hi Louis! So glad you've posted again! I'm curious about the two mallets you used. What's the benefit of using the one with the long head? I assume more mass means you can use a lighter strike? Can't wait for the next project to start!
fascinating.
Bonjour, LOUIS tu m'apprends beaucoup sur la charpenterie de marine Merci merci Henri de SETE en FRANCE
I can't wait man! 13 days & counting....................................................lol
hanging out for it mate, please proceed at your earliest convenience
Mesmerizing, before you know it the video is done.
Thanks for using proper hearing protection. So many youtubers are never seen using hearing protection and its important, even if you are just using a hammer.
Great video, very good information and even better, you’re great at explaining what we’re watching. So, is cotton like Oakum, or a different product?
I have a caulking mallet that is about 200 years old it was supposed to go to a museum in New Bedford but I was able to buy it for $300 and the set of nine irons to install the cotton and Oakham my Mallet is made out of some Blackwood Wicked hard with brass rings on it very well-balanced for something its age I use it basically on fishing vessels
HI Louis love your presentation on all the videos you give the feeling g of being right there alongside you working, I have a guesting how many LBS of cotton to do an entire boat like this one from start to finish?? also how many clamps do you have in the shop very curious about this??.
This is the kind of guy you give a blank check to for fixing your boat.
I doubt he's the kind of guy who would take a blank check. He'd estimate the job, mark it up a fair amount and charge you what the job was worth.
Damn it I was just about to go to sleep!
Nice video. I like the 20 minute format too. 30 minutes would be better though.
I'll buy a t-shirt for the launch of my first-made boat, no matter what it is. Schedule unknown just yet...
Why is the caulking hammer so long? What's the advantage? Love the series and glad you're back!
Will there be more videos on this boat and the repairs?
You guys should do something were you explain how to make a boats ribs
How do you put the seam compound on?flat to the planks?smooth or will it shrink and still show the seams!
can you explain about why the betal or caulking mallet is made that way.
Next time do the shirts long sleeve with white on blue.
Whoohoo!
third!
