The extended arm to the bandsaw is a masterclass in ingenuity, simple but so effective. I have seen the large bandsaw used on another channel but this was an idea we can all modify our bandsaws easily to. Simply brilliant
Genius. I really hope there's a whole troupe of apprentices behind this man to carry on the amazing skills and years of experience that Louis has accumulated.
When I was in the Navy, I was the LPO for the Carpenter Shop on a Navy Tender. We used to do boat repair like you are showing here and even ash/oak bulwarks and other damage. Haven't done it since 77, so this was a walk down memory lane. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
A true artisan. I love Louis' videos, the little ticks are the black art that only come from years of experience and making mistakes. That skill cannot be bought.
I will never build a boat but this gives me great ideas about other projects and knowledge of how to progress in all things woodworking.
My family knows that NO job can be done without blue tape...but THIS takes it to a whole new level. The dynamic angle change for the bevel cut on the band saw is amazing. Really pushes the saw's capability to a new level. Can't wait to try it.
Thanks--again--for sharing these skills of the trade.
OH MY GOD, THAT IS BRILLIANT!!
This is why the ladies all love Louis Sauzedde.
totally floored me on the ban saw bevel cut.. i love learning new skills and that was definitely one just now.
Really appreciate watching you work. I’m a trim/finish carpenter and really try to learn old ways of carpentry. If you ever need a hand please, give me a call!
Fascinating to watch you draw on all the years of experience and learning to make it look so easy. You are my wood boat hero !! :)

My Great Uncle and Grand Father were boat builders and had their own fleet of shrimp boats. I would have loved to learn these things from them.

That was the most impressive bit of wood working I think I have ever seen! For you young folks out there, let me translate: "I mean, like, DAMN!! The old dude gots game with that band saw thang. I ain't never seen nothin' like that! He made that new piece of wood fit just like that! I am way $^@*% impressed, yo!!!"
Such skill. Superb.
You are a magician!

Note to self: Modify bandsaw angle board on Monday morning at work :) great tips, thank you.
Wow, very impressive.
Genious...!
Wow...just...wow...
Old Nat himself is smiling down on you.
Freakin brilliant my man!
I learned a lot!! Thanks
Great Job! thank you
Very good man!
Louis, awesome talent, thanks!
....13
Very cool!!
Totally could build a crank system for that saw. Make a crank with gear off left side. Then attatch a progressively geared long ring gear(part of it) and attatch it to table degree arm. Gear reduce it to like 2:1 so u can crank the the handle right next to the table with left hand. That way you are not spread out on the saw.
Awesome 👍
een echte kunstenaar ,,,Geweldig
Awesome...!!!
10:31 nope, he was not kidding, chapeau!
WHAT A TRADESMAN!!
AMAZING
very satisfying ; ) thanks!
Awesome
Marvellous
wow that band saw
I have no interest in boat building but that was fantastic!!
Thank you!
Did you get a patent on that bandsaw jig? Too cool.
Very ingenious work ! I can understand the need for a cross member like that . But wouldn't water get trapped behind it causing rotting ?
I.am.in.awe
👍
easier than taping down strips of cardboard to get a pattern, wonderful
Genius
Wow. Guy cuts one piece of wood and I'm like "yeah, I'd screw that up".
16.5
I don't want you to get a swelled head with all of these kudos but damn your good
And he probably invented this method himself!!
10:51 but then again, are you going to screw the planks of the hull in the end grain of these rebuilt blocs? no... so why do they need to be so tight? they are only braces for the membrures. they dont need to touch the hull planks
Makes one realize what a jewel “Tally Ho’s” ship saw is.
Louis has a ship saw. ;) Pretty nice one too. It is a little large for cutting out these tiny floor timbers. ruclips.net/video/CUKkfA2gkI4/видео.html
SET IT ON FIRE ! COLLECT THE INSURANCE MONEY
If he had an apprentice it would take at least a decade to pass the knowledge to the learner.
When you say 4 FOOT. Are you saying Four Foot or Forefoot?
And anything longer than one foot is "feet"... Just sayin '
I think you should have re-bent the original oak board because you basically made your own grain doing what you said you didn't want the grain in the oak to do. When that glue fails years from now its going to split out and down into the oncoming waves.
