Guess my MK6 wasn't a real VW GTI. Nor is my MK7 because both have been fine. I did get the EPC light a number of times but that was when I had a cracked intake manifold and for some reason my coil packs would come loose. Once we figured out what was going on though didn't see anything until I traded it at 115k when I just decided I wanted more power and I wanted to try out the DSG.

    ...love my mk5 GTI.
Despite many of the comments online, the engine shouldn’t be rattling and mine doesn’t burn oil either. To be fair I spent a fair amount of pounds on the engine to make it 100% right, the chain tensioner had some play. Now it’s smooth and quite, I can’t hear it at idle.
Also the previous owner really took care of it, the interiors look mint, after 13 years, it’s still a nice place to be and a good Car Play radio gives to the dashboard a modern touch (Pioneer...) Dual clima, heated (tartan) seats, cruise control and all, I don’t miss my previous A6 Avant 3.0 tdi quattro (I miss the quattro system a bit and the tiptronic gearbox maybe, but I had to sell it due the ULEZ charges in central London)...overall a good car, fast enough, spacious, comfortable and not too thirsty either.
Find one that hasn’t be trashed (not easy I know) look after it with regular maintenance and it will be a reliable companion...and even stock, it does make a great noise especially inside tunnels...touching wood, not engine lights ON yes haha..

MK6 manual here. 1.25" drop on VWR Sport springs, APR intake and downpipe with a Stage 2 tune. Piano-black wrap on the roof, and 30% tint, Forged DV and catch can for longevity. 86k miles and still strong, no lights (knock knock)
I've been working on getting it back to scratch. The former owner messed up the interior pretty bad with some lame mods (reupholstered all pillars and the roof liner, and the meddling shorts out my sunroof)
Next step will be wheels and exterior mods, and general "show'n'shine" stuff, then going ham and putting the K04 turbo on it. 'Genuine VW Moneypit' sticker was a must-have, lol

I love my mk7. Great interior and and a mix of soft curves and sharp body lines on the outside. EA888 engine is highly tuneable and mixed with a DSG can give much more expensive cars a run for their money when tuned and built properly. If you want roll racing go with a GTI if you want digs go for the golf R. Throw an LSD in and the thing corners awesome as well. I’ve never been a huge Volkswagen fan but I wouldn’t trade my GTI for anything at this point because it puts a smile on my face every time I get to drive or see it.

I have a Mk6 Gti and I can say that its a great car. It has 158k miles and no issues. I can say that Ive spend a lot of money on repairs tho. Such as ignition coils, a new oil pan, PCV value and other small things. Its expensive but its fun and easy to work on. My advice tho is to just know what your buying because at the end of the day, it is a German car.

Love the video! I’ve had my 14 Mk6 GTi for 5 months already and it’s been a blast. After the APR tune it feels like a different car. You’re also spot on about the different trim levels. 😂 Mine is the drivers Edition with everything but parking sensors and KESSY. My neighbor has a 12 Wolfsburg with KESSY, and parking sensors. My coworker had the same 12 Wolfsburg without parking sensors, KESSY, or HID’s. I think Volkswagen just threw a bunch of parts in a crockpot and called it whatever trim seemed cool. 😂

Had a 2005 Jetta gli with the 1.8 never lose.. loved that car, I built it as a daily/racer(not smart) but by the end of it was pushing 490 to the wheels. The only few issues I seen in them was they are known for burning out coil packs fast. And my issue was I could barely drive it in the rain but that wasn’t the car. That was more the fact of how much power it was pushing with a 12pd flywheel and stage 3 act clutch lol

I have lowering springs with 10 mm spacers in the front and 15 mm in the back.. you can go wider with 15 mm in the front and 20 mm in the rear.. it’s just a matter of preference. By the way I’ve never owned a pair of skinny jeans.

The mk6 was actually very reliable (we won’t talk about the mk4) and I never got a cel through my ownership of the car. It had a ko4s swapped into it and made 363hp and 382ftlbstq.
