      Hopefully one day I can come visit you’re part of the state but I enjoy it here in IdahoFalls I’m close to the mountains and I’ve got pretty much everything that I enjoy here the only thing that is bugging me right is the amount of people that have moved into our area it’s getting hard too find a new place to live and shopping here is getting hard and I order stuff from Walmart and it’s coming from there suppliers and not from the local store like it was a few months ago maybe a year ago and then my kids are having a rough time finding jobs because of the new people moving in and I have seen people looking for housing but because of the California people who have sold their homes and moving here the cost of an apartment has gone up but you know that from what you’re saying in last few videos it’s making hard for people who already live here and then the crime around here has only gotten worse!! I keep an eye on the news!!! And I have fellow friends who are police officers city county and state!! I know it’s not always the California people but what I’ve seen and heard of the sell and move out mostly because of what there Goverment has done too that state!!! But anyway that’s that!! Have a wonderful weekend enjoy your day and you’re family!!!

    Don't move here if you are afraid or offended by guns and seeing people openly carrying. Live and let live means don't shove your liberal views in our face or use them to change the environment here, go to Spokane for that. Also winter is basically late October to May. Don't be surprised to see snow in the Summer too. Summer is basically July to August. Fall is Sept to mid October. Love the sun then don't move here either, we have way more cloudy days through the year. Fire season in August is awesome as we get fire smoke from our area and the entire country. Locals have little use of town amenities due to tourists (Spokane) invading.

    I remember the the CD'A BEFORE Haggedon got ahold of it. Even sadder I remember the prettier farther northern lake Priest Lake before the God awful people with more money than sense started building their lake mansions. I really wish Seattleites and Californians had never discovered the panhandle. Now we live in N.Central Idaho. Thank God we are so remote no one really wants to live here. Cda is not the same. Sandpoint and Priest lake have all been taken over by the rich. Sad.

      I hear you... I grew up in Spokane as did my parents(in the 1940-90's). And I miss the more rural less tourist ridden aspects we used to have. Priest Lake has gotten too full of wealthy transplants, and this is happening to us too. I have to go out to lesser know little lakes to get some peace from the crazy wealthy people with their jet skies, noisy big boats. And as far as the crime there being low... Just wait that will change. Trust me. The problem is the wealthy just up and move if they don't like it anymore. Leaving high home prices, and bums, etc. In their wake... Spokane used to be more like Cour de'A lene is now... Quieter, little traffic, quiet lakes, very little issues with bums(mostly around the bus station). But thanks to Seattle transplants, Californians, Portland transplants, etc... that all changed.. Yeah... Stop advertising the area...we are full and we do not have enough affordable housing... Tell them to go somewhere else... Gentrification sucks!😠

    It's videos like this that has ruined our little town; contributing to the traffic our roads are not equipped to handle and exploding our real estate market to the point that people from here cannot afford to live here. Rents are through the roof and minimum wage is still around $7.25 an hour.

    If you are on medication, please make arrangements with your md before you move to have 6 months of refills because it can take 6 to 9 months to get into an md. Urgent care and ER will not refill all meds and wait times in the ER can be 8 to 12 hours and urgent care can have wait times up to three hours at times. We dont have enough healthcare professionals to care for the population here let alone the ones moving in and we are having difficulty recruiting more due to high cost of living. Good luck and please plan accordingly. We've been discovered and we are having major issues due to growth. You all have been warned. I'm sorry Trent. The blue achids were early fall like September or early October. I remember they were still there the day my husband and I went on a cruise together. I just looked that up, it was 10/15 and it was the end of the aphids season.
    Restaurants- my husband and I like Bardenay, Dockside (closed for a month) and Wolf lodge. Texas Roadhouse is a chain, but they are great and always have an insane line even during the week. Ive lived here a little over 5 months and I've only seen one homeless person. I moved here from New York City.
    I grew up in Buffalo so I was prepared for the winter. I just expected what I grew up with and it's been tame lol. Meanwhile, my co-workers (some even grew up here) "I thought we were done. Why is it SNOWING???" (about Monday night). The only thing I will say is that in the winter you can really only bike the bike trails and no bike lanes. I'm lucky that I live by Prairie Trail and work downtown. We have AWD and studded tires.
    CdA isn't that affordable. We are in a roommate situation where my husband has been for 10 years. Their landlord hasn't raised the rent much, but we were looking at getting our own place and we'd have to pay more than what the rent is here (with the landlord, not our cut) for a much smaller place.

    I've lived here for 26 years, it used to be a wonderful, small town, place. No longer. Overcrowded and overpriced now. Public friendliness is gone, and traffic accidents are frequent, just to name a couple of heartbreaking changes. For all thinking of moving up here, keep in mind the housing and rent prices are very high. Average wages do not support the cost of living, do your homework.

    • @iUnderstand
      @iUnderstand Год назад +3

      Someone said that he rented his apartment in Moscow because it was about half the price of an apartment in Pullman (approximately one year ago, around the beginning of the semester). Do you think this is true?
      Also, I know how you feel.
      TL;DR: sorry, just ended up going on a whole rant...
      Where I live, for the Cost of Living compared to minimum wage as a baseline, a balanced ratio would drive the minimum wage up to over $25.00, which would leave a devastating impact on small businesses, and of course on large businesses and number of jobs, and on the cost of pretty much everything. As prices go up, taxes should decrease- NOT increase. They say that the cost of everything goes up BECAUSE of wage increases, yet, that's not the way it's been working at all over the past however many years. And they have to unfortunately raise minimum wage because they don't account for the fact that employers have been more reluctant to give impactful raises, it's like they're stuck in the past, and the should-be raises are either going into the pockets of the large and chain business owners, or they're just going to maintain livelihood for small business owners, who can't raise their costs enough to make up for the potential profit loss.
      When I was little, my mom worked as a maintenance tech for $35/hr. Almost 20 years later, that same plant and position are hiring for $18/hr. Something isn't adding up. What will people do with all of their property when all of the people in town are sharing a longhouse?

    4:20 I wouldn't exactly say that Coeur D'Alene is a 'live and let live' town in the way it seems to be implied in this video. The example of a British women here contrasted with the idea that "you don't have to be a gun-loving republican" is telling... People moving to this area ought to be aware of its very serious past with White Supremacy (there were literal marches/parades only a couple decades ago) and an on-going struggle with radical politics. It was just last year that a hate group was planning on brutalizing the local pride parade but they were stopped by FBI agents right before they would have gone out to commit the violence. I will say that I grew up in the area, visited often and I've never personally encountered any of this extreme side of the community and the city is otherwise a lovely place, just have to be aware of the history.

    5:29 / 18:20 were actually getting a Trader Joe’s soon! It will be right next to Pilgrums! Or however you spell it 😂 I’m supper excited! Then during the summer I can go to a Trader Joe’s that isn’t too far from my house! Although my house is classified hazardous right now at the moment I’m still here watching this vid on my (kind of) hometown even is video was from a year ago! I work as a student mentor at where the old museum used to be! The educational rights system place now I believe. But I help students want to learn how to make art in so many different ways! I’ve met many different kids with many different disabilities and it’s such a unique job to have! It’s so powerful and wonderful here in Idaho!
    … just hope people treat others nicely when they move here. We’ve had lots of rude rivers recently and it’s quite scary! 😱 I recommend biking! Or walking. But otherwise that I give my hometown an A+!

    • @matthewsinger
      @matthewsinger Месяц назад

      It might be a little more affordable, especially if you are able to do some of the building yourself. But it's really the land value that has skyrocketed. There are dilapidated houses in the downtown / historic neighborhoods that are going for $500,000 because it's prime land regardless of whether the original dwelling gets renovated or torn down and replaced.

    There has been legendary snow some winters and equally legendary cold temperatures - a lot of people coming from elsewhere will find this a shock to the system, so to speak. And one has to be well prepared across the board to go through the winter season and do so well. (Especially when living on a rural location.)
    Like a lot of things it can be okay if you’re prepared and braced for what’s coming. Is always a good idea to be able to live reasonably for a week with no power - this is good advice for about anywhere. But in winter time, you need to have a credible backup option for heating in event of utilities disruption. If prepare then can be okay - and not every winter will be an Armageddon level event, but sometimes they are. And winter has its own outdoor activities that are a lot of fun for those willing to just embrace it and go with the flow.
    Just keep in mind that living on rural property in this region is not like other parts of the nation. It can get rather challenging at times. Have to plan and anticipate how those challenges will get dealt with.
    And when it’s hot and dry in the summer, forest fire is a damn real concern (can’t stress that enough). Need to think about how to mitigate the risk of a fire taking out a home. Means got to think and act on keeping forest areas on property in good condition - don’t let dead wood trees and dead wood on the ground get out of control. Think seriously about how close trees are to the home itself, etc.
    Am very serious - living rurally in this area has its rewards but you got to be a person that will take charge and be in control - instead of live passively thinking “the system” will always shield you. Just having an insurance policy is not going to cut it. Got to be in charge of these issues.

    • @LivingLifeNorthIdaho

      I would definitely argue that Coeur d'Alene is not a "sundown town." The media has been painting Idaho as a "racist state" for a very long time but the fact is, you have a handful of slack-jawed morans acting out their ignorance on innocent people with darker skin than them. This doesn't define a county of 200k people and I'm confident law enforcement will handle this with focus and intention. Don't buy into the media's hype. Coeur d'Alene is a loving, accepting place.
      This is what my darker-skinned clients have told me. "Low levels of racism exist everywhere. The worst we have had it was in Philidelphia. We have been met with a lot of smiles and a lot of joy. Yeah, we get some looks every now and again, but who cares? It only bothers those who want to let it bother them."

      I grew up in Spokane. Cour de' a lene is okay... I go there once in a while, but I cannot say that everyone I know loves to go there. It has gotten very touristy and the traffic is getting worse. I go to art events there once in a while, or maybe rarely a boat ride same as my relatives and friends, but I would not say we spend a lot of time there. We have enough to keep us busy here. Don't forget the dozens of lakes, trails, etc. Fine dining, entertainment, etc. We have here in Spokane. I would not doubt they love coming here more so then the opposite. Especially if they need specialists for doctors, or they want to see a concert, or fly somewhere, or want to do some real shopping other than Amazon... Or if they just want variety in food, entertainment, etc.. without the big price tag. So yeah we use each other. Us using North Idaho for outdoor activities and some unique dining and some of the art scene, and Silverwood with Idaho... and us for most everything else. We have Gonzaga and their games, WSU, EWU, riverpoint too... hoopfest, sports arenas, bloomsday...symphony...our lakes are probably cleaner than the mining sludge at the bottom of lake CdA. It is pretty gross. Pretty lake though. Just maybe don't swim in it too much and don't eat the fish from there. 😅 Same as the Spokane River...don'tneat the fish from there as the pollutants from Idaho come downstream to us. Thanks CdA. 😂
