Was just up in Coeur D'Alene a few weeks ago, visiting from Colorado. North Idaho is a beautiful place, probably the only other area I'd ever move to. It's got everything. Lakes, rivers, streams, parks, mountains, forest, great food and amazing people. Definitely a place for outdoorsmen. My wife and I were so happy to get fresh delicious sushi in downtown CDA, we don't get that here in CO. Cedars on the lake is a fantastic restaurant as well. CDA and Sandpoint are gems!
A place for outdoorsman, yet all you talked about was the urban luxury. I assume you are a weekend warrior when it come to the outdoors.

Cedars is cool...when I was there 35 years ago! I'm sure its still the same. But dude...it doesn't seem like you know about the outdoors much! Think about a moose rushing you! Think about a black bear creeping up on your camping area. HAHA fresh sushi in an are not near the ocean!?!? You crazy! We got good trout and venison though! Get your ass out of luxury and enjoy the outdoors if you come close to the Ho! WA State is great too!
I suppose lake, rivers, streams, parks, mountains, and forest are no longer considered the outdoors... Lames.
We Europeans grow up and associate the US with cities like LA and New York, but to me, states like Idaho are the real America. Idaho, Montana, Wyoming...such beautiful scenery.

this is true. but that most america is trash that is also true. architecture in america is nothing like europe or china for that matter, america spends too much money on wars and not enough on infrastructure. but there are some beautiful city's with pleasant architecture in america. cour d alene is one of them. ny and la where once great citys but they are so filthy and crime ridden now days but that is also true about london and brussels the infrastructure in those american citys was always kind of ugly though. im sure in some ways its not as bad but i still would not want to live in any of those citys. i think its a bigger shame that citys like berlin, london and brussels are being ruined though. they where always much more beautiful and have a richer history.
My local Washington State gun store just packed up and moved to Idaho. Like I needed another sign to head east...... and your toilet paper insert was EPIC!

@@johnnfanning2680 ive thought of moving to idaho beautiful state but i do live in the free satte of misouri i had lived in illinois for 20 years and then lived in kentuckyu for awhile and oh my god it was wondefull to find freedom and polor oppsites on guns my wife wanted to move back close to ur moms i tole her ahy i can live in missouri not a far from where they live in ilinoios right on the river missouri is also a free state almost as pro gun lol
I'm absolutely dreaming of moving to Northern Idaho. Grew up in Oregon, lived in Alaska for a while. Sidenote: In Alaska you learn real quick that moose are far more dangerous than bears because you run into them more often and they will kick/stomp you into the afterlife with little warning. Now I'm living in the South and noooot liking the weather. I'll take ice and snow storms any day over this humidity. The only drawbacks I see to moving to Idaho is the real estate prices and seasonal wildfire smoke.
Look at it today. There is a 417 air index and closed the highway to Spokane. Ya, it's a massive problem every year.
This reality will only increase as more humans move here.

There are millions of board ft of timber the timber idustry never had access to on public lands.
Prior to the supposedly natural forest fires that light up like clock work annually.

@@bobbyboi8820 Yes it has. When the passed the school bond a few months back you saw about 30 to 1 signs in front yards in favor. Anyone with a clue knows what total trash public schools are, no matter where you live. They really are designed to make your kids dumber with common core.
I grew up in North Idaho, lived there for 17 years. Definitely miss it, I don't mind the snow or mountains.
Someone I spoke with at work mentioned that he met the governor of California, Gavin Newsome at some sort of festival in CDA and he told him that he was thinking of moving to north idaho if he doesn’t win the next election and that he also has family in north ID too 😐 I think places like Idaho need to be gatekeeped harder

Californians (liberals) are pretty much just there in summer time but run when weather gets cold. Worley is a nice scenic place. Family has property there. I’m outdoorsman and live to hunt and fish so this is a sportsman paradise.

Great video, I have always said there is no place that is perfect, and you can live in the most beautiful place in the world and if you are unemployed it can quickly become the saddest place for your family. If 2007-2014 taught America anything is that more government is never the answer and DC politics affect the outcome of our daily lives. I remember how many people across the country especially here in CA took their own lives over the depression of job loss, house loss, and I remember then as I too was losing my own home that money or lack of, is always temporary and just requires personal re-adjustment to new circumstances. My heart sank that evil creeps into the sad and desperate souls. This country is so amazing and every state has something to offer everyone. We all need to learn to see the beauty and positivity in wherever we live, and what I have learned as all my married adult children have left CA to raise their children that being near family is where your happy place will always be, so definitely many things to consider. I have many friends who have left to Idaho and are extremely happy with their decision and I am so happy for them. We are all given a God given right to have clean air and water, and peace on this planet. Find our peace, your happiness and you will be led to the next chapter in your life. BTW I was highly impressed with what an amazing shot the content creator is I surely would want him as my neighbor 😊

I was hopping to retire in Idaho, But not any more. The explosion of people of moving from other states has put the housing market and property out of reach. I'm having to rethink my retirement option's.

Love the video. Thanks for the effort you put into it. I grew up in Spokane (in the 70's) and spent a lot of time canoeing and hiking in Idaho and loved it. I'm former military (Army Infantry Captain, prior enlisted, highly patriotic) and now work as a high-end catpenter / craftsman. I'm very serious about moving to Northern Idaho in 1 year and am beggining the process. I'm the guy you referenced who wants some acreage (not too much), where I can build a lovely cabin with a large shop to enjoy my woodworking. I'll be contacting you initially via email.
Did you see his Athol video? It's gorgeous, and there is land you can roam and a breathtaking lake you can float in when you're not woodworking, as long as your dog is somewhat well-trained regarding what to do when certain wildlife approaches

I was born in eastern WA and I see there is a lot to love in ID but at my age it is just too bloody cold. I think I will have to settle for the east TX Piney Woods. But it is tempting. I loved the mountains as a youngster.

Love your comments. I totally agree with what you’re saying. I used to live in Oregon until politics made it too expensive to live there. I was able to transfer to Arizona but here we see too many Californians moving here and making life difficult. My daughter and her family live in Nampa where we have visited and loved it there. Additional, we have checked out the tax rates because I am retiring soon. So for us, we’re going to move back to the better part of the Pacific Northwest!!!!!

@@GriffonRed , Washington and Oregon are more liberal, if that is what you are looking for. Western Washington is grey and rainy but also green and beautiful. The culture there is interesting...people are kind but more reserved. Idaho gets more snow but also more blue skies. I guess it depends what you are looking for.

Thank you for posting this. I currently reside with my family in OR, which is suffering from chronic progressive-ism. In our part of Washington County, rural living has some limitations. Where you live (incorporated v. unincorporated areas) comes with limitations.

As someone who currently lives in a rural area but in a liberal state, all of this is stuff I currently deal with. Sounds good to me! The first time we visited Bonners, the people there thought we were local lol. Can't wait to become a permanent resident!

I liked the way you talked about politics.
I lived in Idaho in the 1970s and Idaho has changed a lot, not for the better. Idaho is sort of two different states being Northern Idaho and central/southern Idaho and they are very different places.
Growth and crowding ruins anything. I used to love Redfish lake, but over the years it increase in popularity and they ended up building it up more to where my wife refuses to go there now. We stay off the beaten path and don't brag about places we like. Unfortunately other people do and have to post RUclips videos that then draws in the crowds. For example multiple hotsprings have been ruined by publicity here.
If you move, just dont change what Idaho is, and try to blend as best you can, most folks are friendly to fellow idahoans, and very abrasive to outsiders
Yes the majority of idahoans are very friendly very kind but there is that small percentage that live in the 60's. I've heard the "N" word.

Grew up going up to Boise in the summers for most of my younger years. My brother moved up to Idaho about 8 years ago and has been in north Idaho for several years now. I’m finally making the move myself to twin falls and I couldn’t be happier or more excited
And to clarify, I’m not liberal in any ways or bringing liberal views or voting up to Idaho. I’m relocating up there because I want to get AWAY from all that.

I think that you are in one of the best spots and you showcase it well. I wonder how many people hear the segment on wild animals and that becomes the show-stopper on them moving? I live in very remote central Utah--a mountain lion hangs out on my summer home neighbor's porch and we have most everything, but in 20 years I have not been bothered by them other than in the garden. Once you live rural, you will not go back--living in a city or even a town is unthinkable to me now.

Great video. He’s spot on about the winter. I’ve had several neighbors move here from mild climate states, and are severely underprepared to deal with what winter brings. Plan on being up an extra hour before work and another hour when you get home to manage snow. It’s not everyday, but a good 3-4 day storm will kick you in the teeth if you don’t stay on top of it. I would say CDA has a lot of normal everyday people, and a good dose of artsy people. We have some ugly paintings and art around the city that I guess someone thought was nice, but it’s just abstract and weird. Our schools are pretty good. My daughter is a teacher. I question her frequently about curriculum and to see if what I am seeing on the news around the country is happening here. It is not. Our teachers are still focused on education and not anything more. Could there be a couple rogue teachers out there? Sure. But the majority are good people. I think people also need to be aware of racism here. It has gotten way better over the years, but I have on several occasions had leaflets left on my doorstep as these groups canvas a neighborhood. You might see 2-3 people protesting / advertising for these groups on a street corner. It’s an ugly part of the history here, but it is a very small group of people holding on to this ideology. I raised my family here, and I’ll continue to see my grandkids raised here.

I loved living in Idaho! to be exact, I lived in the town of Kamiah. Kamiah, is a very small town but we lived up on the mountain and yes, we had all the wildlife up there!! But we never had a very pretty garden due to the deer!! They ate everything except the trees!!! We did had a very large vegie patch also, which we shared with the deer and any other critter who wandered into our garden!!! Some years, we didn.t have much to can but we servived! I learned to gather most of the vegies before they were ripe thus avoiding the deer takeover! It meant we had vegies ripening in the garage, kitchen and anywhere else that the deer cc=ould not get into!!! Yes, we put up 8 foot fences and some things we put up 10 foot fences but the deer always found a way to get to them! Thus was my life in Idaho!!! Due to my age and death of my husband, I gave in to living with my sister in Michigan, Which is nothing but a huge city and I hate it!! So to help others who might have great expectations about moving to Idaho, I highly recommend the move!!!

I love my state of Texas. But me and my wife are both looking forward to retiring in Idaho. Pretty sure long drives will not affect us. Looking forward to joining the beautiful scenery and people of the gem State.

Trent, I really appreciate you warning city dwellers who want to escape to more rural states the things they probably aren't aware of before moving. I have clients in Cascade, ID who was my Vet when I had dogs. Beautiful country around McCall with plenty of times I nearly hit elk, cougar and turkeys on the rural roads. Never saw any wolverines but I did want to add that they are bigger than people think! I saw one that triggered our motion light going around the corner of our studio in Plain, WA (rural Chelan County). He was 15' away from me and I estimated he was at least 30" tall and maybe 35 lbs.! They're about the size of a mid size dog or small coyote. I didn't know what triggered the motion light until I got outside and darn near ran into him. There were fires in the mountains at the time so he probably came down to get away from the fires.

@@LivingLifeNorthIdaho We have wolverines in the Enchantments out of Leavenworth (our address is Leavenworth). I never thought I'd see one on our own property but the fires brought a lot of animals down from the high country that September. We even saw a couple of Martens (on endangered list) and chased a black bear up the highway the same night. BTW, the largest wolverine was recorded at 55 lbs. but it's said that they can reach 66 lbs.! They can take down an elk or caribou so that shows how much strength they have. 😉
I was born and raised in L.A. I am a true conservative and think-for-myself person. Obviously, a rare spicy out here. Idaho is definitely my type of people, and I've always wanted to live in the country. Although I am 65, thank God I have taken good care of myself and attended the gym all my adult life. I will tell you, it certainly is paying off as my body ages. I can work out like many of these 20-somethings. I just don't know about those winters. Hum

You’ve made it clear in your video, you don’t want anyone to move there.
Funny, I didn't get that feeling at all by Trent's video. He's just letting people know what to expect so they're not disappointed when they pick up and move to another state like Idaho. I love rural Idaho but it's not for everyone. People who are self sufficient and love the outdoors will find that Idaho is a great place to live. You just have to do your homework to see if it's the right fit for you. 😉

Wow, every thing that you mention that can be a difficult surprise to some, sound like refreshing delight to me. Especially storms. Storms are awesome, challenges are fun!! Even black ice is a challenge to overcome, not a terror. Clearing dead fall is fun but also important for bark beetle control (in addition to fire safety). Hmm... Idaho is definitely on my short list of ideal places to live in USA.

That's where I'm heading right now, but ran out of gas money.
Even Lewiston can be a storm nightmare. And yes, my gas went from $500 a month in California to about $1200 a month in Washington. Everything is more expensive except for the house itself.
We don’t pay the water bill, but I can assure you we pay a well Bill and it is a lot more than a water bill. Some thing is always breaking down and the minimum service charge for a repairman is it about $250 and that doesn’t count the service itself that’s just for the drive out here.
We almost moved there a year ago. We watched your videos and we went there and looked at places. Cool place. We saw a bull moose with in the first 24 hours. Saw some decent bucks while looking for a house. Lol. I was ready to move. It didn’t work out. We ended up in Washington near Portland so I didn’t actually get away from it as much as I wanted. We are on 23 wooded acres in a log house. Off a nice river. It’s nice but Idaho will always be the girl that got away. Idaho was perfect for me. Our house in Idaho would probably be about 2.5 million there. Much cheaper here but we are dealing with nonsense that I don’t want to deal with. Still want to come there or Montana, Wyoming.

I can confirm that my vacation stay was 10 miles from the nearest restaurant in Driggs, over sometimes dirt roads. If your car sometimes flashes alarms like 'Keep hands on wheels', it can be unnerving

State minimum wage in Idaho is approximation one half of the minimum wages paid in Oregon, Washington, California, etc. It does you no good to move to Idaho if you cannot feed your family, find affordable housing etc. Finances are important to the well being of your family. Student loans, care loans, credit debt, etc., will follow you to your new home so be sure to learn if you can afford to live in this state.

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life but now my family and I are ready for something new and really considering Idaho since our values are really similar.
I get this video is directed towards Americans wanting to move to Idaho... but as a Canadian family planning to visit Idaho in a few months, there was a LOT of great takeaway information here that a visitor can also use. Many tourists want to avoid the urban dumpsters like Seattle and Portland for the very same reason people are leaving those cities, as well as visiting a state where we probably fit closer with the general mindset. We passed through the state 5 years ago in a rush, spent only parts of three days, but impressed how safe and clean Boise was was, as well as some other smaller communities we passed through and stopped. We regretted back then under-estimating just how awesome Idaho is and not giving it more time in our trip itinerary. Anyways we are looking forward to spending a couple weeks exploring the length of the state and all it has to offer. Thanks again for these interesting clips.

If you do not like seeing cars or equipment on someone's property do not buy next door. Build a big pretty house then expect the neighbor to adjust to your wants and cares. Thats crazy. Having a hobby or income is normal. You dont always know the whole circumstances to someones situation.

I moved to CDA 3 years ago from So Cal. I had to escape after living there almost 40 years. It's absolutely wonderful here. I grew up in the midwest where the winters are much worse than here. Anyone thinking of relocating here from an area without the four seasons should expect snow & cold but honestly, I expected worse. It's more moderate than most midwest winters. Of course there will be really bad winters & storms occasionally, but it's nice to have snow during Xmas. It just fits. If you live in the area and wish to get your city fix, you can drive over to Spokane. It's not that far. There are a few things I miss up here, like availability of certain items, but my needs aren't like most so it's not worth going into. For me, living in So Cal meant driving A LOT. I drive much less up here. It's just something you adjust to. Trent is right about the people and the place. To me it's a breath of fresh air. The only thing you have to adjust to is the fact that it gets dark earlier in the daytime during the winters since we're so far north. It also get light earlier in the morning during summer. If you need to escape to a place where sanity is still on the menu, you may like it here. I love it!
Do they use salt on the roads for the snow/ice? Just wondering if it's the same as the midwest where cars rot out from rust caused by all of the salt they slather on the roads

In Iowa, it can be -10 degrees for 30 days. We only have single digits for a few weeks and rarely gets below 0 for any length of time. After not living in winter for over 40 years, I was pleasantly surprised! @@northidahodrives

Good instincts @johnfullmer7659. I have to redo a hip surgery I had done last year and possible surgery on the disks in my low back. I’ve been doing weekly Chiro, massage, and dry needling but getting little relief from the constant pain in my back and hips. Appreciate you noticing. Other than that life is beautiful and we’re doing great.

I will pray for a complete recovery I have to tell you after many decades of my husband being injured as a peace officer and two back surgeries he would advise younger self different with things we know now. Pain is a giant motivator and it’s a road most don’t understand at all. After his last “so called, clean up surgery” he won’t let them touch his back ever again. Like all things in life, one thing gets solved and another starts to happen. I am so amazed by Dr. Joe Dispenza story of healing because the surgery he explains he should have had is what my husband did have. I pray you do the minimum needed. Definitely seek alternative sources which sounds like you already are doing. You on the outside are like my husband. Physically fit and thin, everywhere we went there was a strange feeling that his pain must be made up. It’s a painful journey even with people who are in your inner circle
