When my grandmother was bedridden with Alzheimers. She couldnt speak, move, do anything for herself. I took care of her daily for 6 years 2 of which were like i described above. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE was the only thing in all this world that brought light back into her eyes so i made sure to play it for her daily and sing it as well. She'd squeeze my hand as best she could... When I read his book I couldn't even get past the introduction without crying. Knowing the story behind this song has changed everything I ever thought about it. I was estranged for many years from my father and we reconciled a few years before his death. I'm so grateful I had that time with him before he passed.
What I am about to say is from Wikipedia because there is alot about the meaning behind this song that I couldnt remember it all. But I do know some of the stuff that is from wikipedia because I watched the movie and read the book based on this song. "In the last phases of the album's (The Worship Project) production, MercyMe needed one more song to include on the album. So late at night on the band's bus, Millard found an old notebook with the phrase "I can only imagine" written in it. Millard began to write a song, basing it off on his personal feelings about his father Arthur's death. Early in Bart's life, Arthur had been physically and emotionally abusive towards his family, with Bart being beaten severely at points; Arthur and his wife Adele eventually divorced, and Bart was sent to live with his mother after an especially extreme whipping. Bart kept in contact with his father, however, who was later diagnosed with with pancreatic cancer when Bart was 15. His father began to make amends for his actions and started becoming more religiously observant, reading the Bible and going to church regularly. As Arthur progressively became more ill, his relationship with his son improved dramatically; by the time Arthur died in 1991, when Bart was 18, the two were very close. Millard said that "I got a front row seat to see this guy go from being a monster to falling desperately in love with jesus. I traveled with a gospel group back in the early 90s. Me and the group owners son spent 14 hrs. on our knees putting a new floor in an old trailways bus. The bus sold the next day. I found out a few months later that the group that bought the bus was Mercy Me. You can see the bus in their video around that same time. As a believer in our Lord God almighty the thought of meeting him some day truly makes me weep with joy just knowing I dont deserve the opportunity and knowing he has loved me through all of my disgusting sins and the fact that he never gave up on me when I thought I was doomed and wanted to give up on myself, and that was never what he intended for me, I love him so much. This song just hits home, I am so excited to be with him some day. Thank you Mercy me for putting into words what so many of us, his children feel but couldn't do on our own, you are the vessel.

I went to my son's Air Force boot camp graduation in San Antonio. We went to the worship service at the chapel while we were there. Wow, what a worship service! One of the best i've been too. They were playing Star Wars clips and the band sang this song as well.

This song lead my husband to God. He has always believed there was a God but when he heard this song he knew there was a God. That God had always been there for him. I had been listening to Christian music for a few years and had tried to get him to listen to it. After hearing this song he not only listens to Christian music, we have been to several concerts including MercyMe.

This song was the last song my oldest son sang in church before he died. We used it at his funeral. Now he doesn’t have to imagine. He can show me around when I see him again.
They played this song at my grandpas funeral. That was almost 9 years ago and to this day it makes me cry. I know this is a religious song, for the most part, but I don’t think of it like that. It just makes me excited to go to heaven someday and know I’ll get to walk by my grandpas side instead of only seeing him in my dreams. 💕

I traveled with a gospel group back in the early 90s. Me and the group owners son spent 14 hrs. on our knees putting a new floor in an old trailways bus. The bus sold the next day. I found out a few months later that the group that bought the bus was Mercy Me. You can see the bus in their video around that same time. Also as a father with a son currently serving in the Marines, thank you for your service.

As a believer in our Lord God almighty the thought of meeting him some day truly makes me weep with joy just knowing I dont deserve the opportunity and knowing he has loved me through all of my disgusting sins and the fact that he never gave up on me when I thought I was doomed and wanted to give up on myself, and that was never what he intended for me, I love him so much.

I went to my son's Air Force boot camp graduation in San Antonio. We went to the worship service at the chapel while we were there. Wow, what a worship service! One of the best i've been too. They were playing Star Wars clips and the band sang this song as well.

This song lead my husband to God. He has always believed there was a God but when he heard this song he knew there was a God. That God had always been there for him. I had been listening to Christian music for a few years and had tried to get him to listen to it. After hearing this song he not only listens to Christian music, we have been to several concerts including MercyMe.

This song was the last song my oldest son sang in church before he died. We used it at his funeral. Now he doesn’t have to imagine. He can show me around when I see him again.
They played this song at my grandpas funeral. That was almost 9 years ago and to this day it makes me cry. I know this is a religious song, for the most part, but I don’t think of it like that. It just makes me excited to go to heaven someday and know I’ll get to walk by my grandpas side instead of only seeing him in my dreams. 💕
