Superb video down memory lane. If I remember correctly Bombay got 3 Maruti showrooms then...1) Enpak Motors, 2) Rama Automobiles and 3) Vitesse. While Vitesse is still around as a service centre in Andheri West, the other franchisees disappeared years ago. My father had a Mark 4 Ambassador and a Fiat Padmini. A big thing in those days to own 2 cars. And the 1st generation Maruti 800 was was a revolution in those days with the design, mileage etc. He applied for the 1st generation of Maruti 800 at Enpak Motors but unfortunately didn't get an allotment. He ultimately purchased the 2nd generation, the s308 as mentioned in the video. And yes as Hormoz sir said generations went on drives across the country in Maruti 800. I remember going to Nashik/Shirdi in these cars and it was nostalgia to see this video. Thanks Autocar for refreshing the memories.

We had 2002 model till 2022. Last year we exchanged it to Alto 800 top variant. 20 years hassle free experience. Only three times we had to change the battery otherwise there was not a single complain about it. You just have to fill the petrol tank and enjoy the journey.Truly gem of a car. Happy 40th Birthday.

Yes. Even I had one. The 1992 S308. My father was the second owner of it. Well indeed it is a 40th birthday of this car today as for it's first rollout and the first purchase in the country. But somewhere I think that it would have been even more wholesome to celebrate it's first rollout if 800 was still in production and if it was still getting rolled out as today's gen 800 and I am not talking about Alto 800 here.

The sound was clearly digital, its the same for the Maruti, it left the analog world far far behind.
