Almost $100k / year in child support? That's more than most households make in a year! Hopefully he can find a better lawyer or find a better judge.
I’m going to wager that he either tried to represent himself in court or didn’t show at all for her to be able to point at his taxable income from a very thick tax filings and the judge accept that. I feel like more of this is his fault then he’s letting on.

Child support has nothing to do with marriage….even if you don’t marry but you bring a kid into this world, you’re responsible for child support. So it’s less about marriage and more about having children.
It's only dangerous when the vows are broken.

As someone who believes that the man should pay child support and take responsibility for their child I'm disgusted by the way they're treated in court. Needs to be a fair amount, taking the men to the cleaners isn't fair and needs to stop. Yes he needs to be paying for the child he chose to create but this is just ridiculous.

@@shwn4922 If the children live with the mother, then it makes sense that he pays child support. The amount of the support would be based on living expenses and their incomes. If his share of the child-rearing expenses are $3k a month, than that's what it is.
Many trucking companies are paying people to get their CDL. Then, after a couple of years, start his own company.
@Eddy Edwards Yes companies do hire people in bad debt. It's pretty much wage slavery but it's 100k+ salaries if the person works hard enough.
That will take forever. He should go back to court for his stupid child support and then start another business. He just has to do the math. A business nets more than a job.

A business would never enter into a legal contract with a party who benefits financially from breaking said contract, so why do it to yourself?? It is insane what family Courts do to men with child support. This man lost his business so of course, he loses his family too. At any given time a woman can decide to abandon ship and pursue something she feels is better....leaving the husband with less than nothing. How men can still be falling for the marriage/child support trap is beyond me.

The guy should try to get the child support modified, but it may still be difficult. Family courts can do whatever they please. Chapter 13 bankruptcy may be an option for him.
Not happening. Child support, alimony, back taxes, and student loan debt are among the few things that cannot be wiped out or even modified in a Bankruptcy case. I filed BK back in 1998 when the old laws existed and even with the new laws in effect since 2005, you cannot get rid of those types of debt. This “schmuck” and that is what he is (thanks to the ex) has bigger “fish to fry” in that he needs to worry more about staying out of prison with the back child support.
@@KevinGonzalez-vz7rz Chapter 13 bk doesn't eliminate any debt, just restructures them into a better payment plan. I'm not a bk expert, but I think when the child support and tax debt can fall under the restructuring. I agree with you this poor schmuck has made some poor decisions and needs to be held accountable, but what is happening to him through the family court is not fair either. It's biased against men in general.

Not every state does it by percentages. A friend of mine left her husband and the kids stayed with him. Child support was a set amount for the first child and then a set amount for each additional child. When the tally was totaled up, her child support payment left her with five dollars out of her take-home pay. When she protested that she wouldn't have anything left to live on, the judge told her tough luck and if she didn't pay it, she would go to jail.
Stop working and go on assistance. They won’t put you in jail. It costs the state too much money.

This is the problem with these child support rules. It shouldn't even be a percentage of income after making so much. Even if he could comfortably pay $7,500/month, the mother of his child does not need that much to comfortably provide necessities. He is still in the child's life to provide gifts, and be a father. So naturally he is going to provide more but directly to his child.
Forget the debt, his divorce threw the planet at him.

honestly, I think he should file bankruptcy, and hire a bankruptcy lawyer to handle it. Maybe start over but with a job until he gets money again. most of the loans are bancruptible. also, he needs to know how to handle money better, that's what you get when you have no or little education on how economics works. It could be why the women got divorce because of his spending habits

His issue is that he doesn't sit down to think things through. When you sell securities, you have to know the capital gains taxes it will produce and make sure it's within a tolerable tax bracket. Second, he could've taken a loan against some securities, which not have triggered capital gains and still get dividends from them to pay off his loans.

Child support shouldn't be based on income. It should be set on what 50% of the actual costs to raise a child.

This sounds like a story that I heard a while ago on this channel
lost the business then the divorce happened, something is not adding up in the story unless the wife convinced the court he took the business down on purpose and was underemployed. Capital gains if there is no assets can't exist.

Some very specific items including child-support in IRS taxes are non-dischargeable under bankruptcy law.
Plus, he still has no income.
