    Florida doesent resign Reinhart and end up getting Laine.
    Laine played his best hockey under Maurice coaching.
    Barkov is his good friend and would be perfect center for him as it would let Laine focus on offence.
    Laine would fit very well to Floridas PP. Verheage isnt so good at that spot as he is left.
    Ofc its not very likely. Reinhart would need to ask too much, Columbus retain big chunk of his contract and price wouldnt be high. I really would like that Laine gets on going again and becomes +40 goal scorer. And Barkov/Lundell are centers that would be perfect for him and let him be that offensive force he is at his best.

    The return for Columbus definitely would not be like the return they got when they traded Dubois for him. I think the return would be either a potential high-end prospect plus some late draft picks, maybe like two 4ths or a 3rd and 6th. Or maybe two mid prospects plus a 3rd or a 2nd pick. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see just a player for player trade with money retained. Maybe Laine for Necas. Also, don't count out the jackets, including someone else in a trade with Laine. Alex Texier, Kent Johnsons, Nick Blankenburg, and Ivan Provorov names have come up in recent trade talks as well.

    As Columbus is not about to compete for for the 2 years left in Laine's contract, Columbus could easily go all the way to 50% retention and trade Laine for a competing team. As Laine for $8,7M might be a bit risky, but Laine for $4,35M cap hit could be amazing value and easily worth the gamble.
    I would love for the Avs to go for Laine, if they somehow would have the cap room. If we pretend that they could free the 4,5M in cap space and trade this years 1st and Oskar Olausson for Laine with 50% cap retention.

    It’s a very bad look for Waddell’s first trade in Columbus to be a complete L, and really all of your trades are exactly that-complete losses for Columbus. Laine is not a cancer in the room; that has never been a storyline in Columbus, ever. And that’s with three successive coaches trying to turn him into something he’s not. There’s never been anything about him not being all-in for the team; I think everyone has recognized that he’s a round peg in a square hole, but nobody around the team has ever said he wasn’t trying.
    What I can see happening in a trade is that he goes for a “B” prospect, an inefficient contract, and a conditional 2025 or 2026 pick, where the pick goes from a third to a second to a first, depending on the number of games played for the new team. I don’t think you can make conditions for a trade based on performance, but it’s a good bet that if Laine plays 55+ games, he’ll get the points that makes the trade worthwhile.
    I wonder if Seattle would be interested in getting him. Their young centres play the type of game that Laine could thrive at, he wouldn’t need to be too defensively minded and could focus on attacking, and they have some good veteran depth, which is something that Waddell has talked about adding to the young core in Columbus.

    Tarasenko and Perron leave, power play goes to last in league. Entire system is built for a shooter. Vrana did not slot in, so the slot is still open. He is similar age to Thomas and Kyrou. Blues are 2 shooters short, snuggerud can slot in too in a year.
    Laine’s career stats -> he’s absolutely torched Stl more than any other team. Pain is the best teacher. Stl would know what to do with him more than anybody else because they felt it the most.

    I’m a biased CBJ fan, but I think you’re low on all these values. Last year was brutal, but it was because of two dirty hits and his father’s passing. He’s much closer to the 1.0 PPG player he was a couple years ago than the 0.5 PPG player he was last year, and he’s probably a $6-7M player when healthy.
    I think he gets one guaranteed first with Columbus retaining $2M, and a conditional pick that upgrades if he hits a threshold of number of games played or goals scored.

    • @MikaTuukkanen

      How would you feel about the following trade?

      CBJ get: Avs 2025 1st round pick + Oskar Olausson

    • @mikeciccone
      @mikeciccone Месяц назад

      @@MikaTuukkanen I’d be mostly fine with that, and I wouldn’t be mad if it was the return, but the sticking point is just retention. Again, I think he’s a $6-7M player, so retaining $2-2.7M on him should be expected.
      But to get the extra 2ish million to get him at 50% retained? For two years? I think CBJ ask market value for that, which is costly (probably somewhere between multiple 3rds and a single 1st on its own).
      It’s getting there, but ultimately I think someone like a MTL or ANA could offer a similar package while only needing $2M retained, and Columbus opts for that.

    • @MikaTuukkanen
      @MikaTuukkanen Месяц назад

      @@mikeciccone i don't see the cap retention bothering cbj, as they won't be a competitive team in the next two years. It's just do they try to really cash in with it. And the Avs likely cant fit Laine even with 50% retention, so with the Avs, that would have to be a starting point for the trade.

    • @mikeciccone
      @mikeciccone Месяц назад

      @@MikaTuukkanen I don't think the retention would bother CBJ, but I do think they'd make a team pay for it, and that market value can be pretty hefty. I could more easily see Columbus taking back an overpaid roster player (like a Mikheyev in VAN), since Columbus' MO has been overpay players to play here rather than retain and pay players not to play here. It's all just my personal prediction, though ($2M retained, salary back, conditional picks, etc.). There's so many moving parts, I could easily see Olausson and a 1st being the winning bid.

I think ultimately they keep him to see how he fits in with a coach that actually admires his services.

    To Toronto: David Jiricek and Patrick Laine
    To Columbus: Mitch Marner and Timothy Liljegrin
    Columbus gets the winger they wanted Geaudreau to be, and might play well with as they have similar styles. Clear upgrade on laine for their rush style offense.
    They also get Lili who shows incredible promise from time to time but doesn't yet have the consistency. Downgrade from Jiri but is the price to be rid of Laine and gain a 100 point winger.
    Toronto gets another one timer threat allowing them to deploy a Tampa style 1-3-1 powerplay with snipers (Matty, Nylander and Laine) at both sides and as a high foreward.
    And for trading Marner receive their potential partner for Morgan Reilly. A young defenseman with potential to be a perfect #2 defenseman with skill, grit and intelligence.
