Great Gable is one of my favourites and in my view, much more rewarding than nearby Scafell Pike, I hope you enjoy it😃. More info in the description. Thanks for watching ⛰👍🙏 If you would like to support my channel that would be amazing 😀: buymeacoffee.com/trekkingwithtony
Another super film, Tony and Alison. Very enjoyable watching. That looked a hard climb from Green Gable to Great Gable, but I do enjoy a good scramble!
Thanks Martin, this was a really fun one 😁. I like a climb too so this was great 👍. I’ve spoken to a couple of people that came down that way and wished they’d gone up it 😂. I hope you get to do it soon, enjoy it out there mate ⛰️😁🥾
Hi Tony, Hi Alison, a cracking route there. I did all those starting at Gatescarth Farm and doing Fleetwith Pike first. Then came down Windy gap and in to Ennerdale past Black Sail hut. Although I didn’t go up to Great Gable because I’d already ticked that off. You got to love Great Gable, the views from the summit are just amazing. All the best guys Dave 😀⛰🥾
Nice one Dave, I’m heading to Fleetwith Pike next weekend hopefully picking up Black Sail and Haystacks so I’ll look forward to picking them up then. I’ll check your route out. Can’t believe there was nobody else there 😁. Enjoy it out there mate ⛰️
You missed a treat there Tony. The route up to Base Brown from Seathwaite via the “Hanging Stone” is brilliant and you would have had fantastic views. Back down to Styhead Tarn from Great Gable. Keep up the good work.
Great video. We are doing that route starting from Seathwaite for our next walk. Great Gable will be our 100th Wainwright. Great scenery and drone footage there.
I'm doing this route this year excellent. I did wonder about base brown but may bag how you did it .Yes great gable one of the most I want to do. Cracking video thank-you and for the information xx
Nice one Louise 😁. The only other way to get base brown is from Seathwaite which is a serious up and down😅. Thanks for watching, I hope you get a great day for it ☀️⛰️🥾
Thanks Paul, yes it's quite a dodgy down. I'm really hoping to get the reality across rather than the 'instagram' version of hiking. Thanks for watching mate and enjoy it out there!
Bit late catching up with this walk Tony. You had a cracking day out. The views over to Great Gable from Green Gable are superb. Great Gable is my favourite fell in the Lake District. The 360 is epic. You didn't show it in the video, did you go over to the Westmorland Cairn? It's one of the finest views in Lakeland. Thanks for sharing this epic adventure.
Hi David, it’s a fantastic top for sure 👌. I did go past it but must have been in too much of a rush to get to the top 😂. I’m planning on going up again from Seathwaite so will make sure I show it next time. All the best out there mate ⛰️😁🥾
Hi Tony, Ive just subscribed after seeing a couple of your fabulous videos. Love the amount of route information which goes with them too. Very helpful for my future hikes. I did do Grey Knotts with my wife about 2 months ago but we went up a grassy path which runs parallel and right of the fence you went up. Its meets the fence at the stile which you cross over to do the final push. We intended doing Brandreth and Green Gable too but the wind and rain got too much for my other half so we came back down the way you ascended. Looking forward to catching up with some of your other vids when I get chance. Cheers ATB
Hi Tony, Welcome aboard! I know the way you mentioned. Best to get down sometimes rather than push on. I’ve exited a couple early this year mainly due to high winds. The videos are in folders for each of the 7 Wainwright fells if you have a particular area in mind. I’m just getting ready to release day 3 of the Cumbria Way so if you fancy a look at 1 and 2 they are also in their own folder. Enjoy it out there and thanks for the support mate 🥾😁⛰️
Hi Tony great video, iv done this but slightly different, we struggled to get off great gable due to high dense clagg, my question wfat app do you use for your map routes
Hi Peter, thanks mate. Yes, if you come off too far left of where I came off there is a very dodgy scree face. I’m glad you made it off ok. I make them on OS maps so you can download them (link in the description) to your phone which is a great help in the clag. I hope that helps 😃 Happy new year, enjoy it out there mate ⛰️😁🥾
Hi mate, you can go but the reason I don't is that Great Gable is done first, which to me is like having your pudding first. I'd rather build up to it. It is great walk either way but that is why I go this way around.
One final question mate regarding your initial descent off the Great Gable summit. How did you find the north west route coming down? I see some routes that descend the way you came up, and then walk across (west) to the smugglers path from windy gap? Thanks
I definitely wouldn’t recommend coming down the way I came up. The way I went down does require a bit of clambering but not as much as if you went down to windy gap. The routes I do tend to favour steeper up and gentle down mate. Safer that way in my view ⛰️😁🥾

Great video Tony - nice to see what the scramble up from Windy Gap is actually like because most content creators skirt over that 👍 Thanks for sharing

Great video buddy iv done this one but never done bass brown so will have to do it agen 😂
Nice one Gary😃. It's a great walk. Base Brown is a tricky one to collect but this is definitely the best way to get it IMHO. Enjoy it mate!⛰
@trekkingwithtony thanks buddy you are right I'll go back up the same way just to bass brown and back to the slat mine 👍 😀 thanks again for the video

It was memorise Sunday last year we got there a 11 omg every man ang dog was out 😂
It is a busy one usually. I can’t believe I had the top to myself 😁⛰️🥾
I see a lot of people/sites recommending to do this route anti-clockwise, any thoughts on this from anyone??
Hi mate, you can go but the reason I don't is that Great Gable is done first, which to me is like having your pudding first. I'd rather build up to it. It is great walk either way but that is why I go this way around.
Thanks Tony, that makes sense to me. The route you took also seems to have the steadier descent which is preferable. Thanks for the video, subbed
@@uk.gardners Yes, Allison’s knees prefer a steady descent so that’s so my walks always try and factor that in. Welcome board 😁🥾⛰️
