This channel has been a major inspiration for me to get back into hiking, despite being out of shape. The motivation to tackle even the easier routes, just simply getting out there and doing something is a step in the right direction and a sure-fire way towards good health.

Abbie don’t go without at least one trekking pole. Using poles from my thirties on made such a huge difference; if I hadn’t started using them all those years ago I would not be able to walk-in the hills today. I’m almost 70. Honestly the relief the poles give your knees is absolutely precious. As I say I’m fast approaching 70 so of course I’ve slowed down somewhat, your videos bring so many great days, memories, back. Thank you so much.

Hey Abbie, congrats on Great Gable and that monster descent. Enjoyed watching. Made my day, in fact. Thanks also for your comments on dreams, passion and courage and so forth. Definitely gives me pause and something to reflect on.

for preventing blisters. My friends and I discovered that if you wore 2 pairs of socks, one closest to your skin being a tight fitting poly wool blend. Almost like a compression sock in tightness, then wear your regular socks over them, *most of use prefer Althea socks which are 100% cotton, this has made a huge difference. The bonus other than no blisters, the cotton socks do not absorb as much sweat when worn over the poly wool blend socks.

Great Gable can be a bit of a challenge but the views from the top are, I think, some of the best in the whole Lakes. Luckily you had good weather as there's nothing worse than slogging up hill to a top covered in cloud and no view! Great video and thanks for taking us along.

We did Scaefell Pike in July 2018, in sweltering heat. It took us 7 hours up and down - but I am quite old and unfit and we took the 'easy' route. It was one of my great avhievements. I think next year (2020) we will do what you are doing in this video. Here's an idea. Post a map at the end of your video, showing your route.

Hi Abbie, Brilliant vid. This brought back some great memories for me. I did a carbon copy of this walk a few years ago, and like you I came down that bloody scree slope on Great Gable. I was following a series of cairns thinking that this was a good way down......definitely not !! Like you, I also talked myself out of continuing onto Kirk Fell (My Knees were OK ...I was just knackered after the descent). When you look back to the scree slope from Beckhead Tarn , it looks impossible !!. From there if you look to the left there is a gentler path coming down...this was the one I should have took!! Earlier this year I did a there and back again walk to Kirk Fell from Wasdale, and when I looked at that scree slope , couldn't believe I had come down it.

You were SO fortunate with the weather Abbie! When I took my daughter to Windermere, it rained even more than usual, so we had to find other things to do rather than as much walking as we'd planned. We managed to get a walk round Winlatter, had a boat trip across the lake, a trip on the steam train back to Windermere. We even went to watch Nanny McFee in the little 2 screen cinema ( the only one we know if where the seats run upwards towards the screen!).

A new Abbie Barnes video. What a treat. Fantastic views. You might want to try wearing a thin liner sock with a mid or heavier weight outer sock depending on weather conditions. The liner sock sticks to your skin and any movement of your feet in your boots is between the two sock layers not sock layer and your skin causing blisters. Also the liner sock wicks moisture away from your foot. It helps to have boots that fit properly as well. Thanks for sharing.

We were on Fleetwith Pike summit 19 days ago, on the way to Haystacks but we took your route to Great Gable lady year but had to stop on Green Gable. We stopped their for lunch and on the time it took us to eat a sandwich, Great Gable completely vanished is the cloud, unbelievablely quickly. You made the right call not to linger at the summit when the clouds rolled in. Great watch, cheers Alan

Just discovered you today Abbie on RUclips - your honesty, authenticity and love is so refreshing - you are a beacon of light when there's so much hate around today. Posting under Great Gable as I can highly recommend the 'Gable Traverse' route - path heads off near Sty Head Tarn and picks its way high up across the south face of GG, you can ascend to the summit via the Great Napes or just continue on round. Sadly a recent ankle injury that is not healing probably precludes me doing this again. From a fellow-jouneying Christian.

Saying what you did about there being bigger mountains that those in the Lake District made me think about those and how much bigger they really are. It’s really hard to wrap your mind around the notion that Mountain Everest is 9 times higher than Scafell Pike - we humans, are indeed insignificant on that scale.

Another great video Abbey. I did those same fells back in the mini heatwave we had in February. I went up from Seathwaite though and did Base Brown. I noticed you went down the scree on Great Gable, did you not fancy retracing your route up and going down windy gap ? That was quite steep as well but maybe slightly easier. I also decided to miss out Kirk fell but it's there for another day. Love the videos keep them coming 👍

Looking at doing these peaks myself, but that first part to Grey Knotts looked a bit unnecessary. All that scrabbling through fences and rough ground. Would it not be easier going up to the quarry then heading for Grey Knotts?
