When I was about 10 we set out to climb Old Man, got SO lost in the fog, and, hours later, ended up on the top of Weatherlam somehow. Good times.

When I climb Coniston Old Man via the mine workings I always visit what I think is the motor housing that says ‘Bramley Engineering’ on it. I’m from Leeds and Bramley is the district of Leeds where my wife grew up! Not sure the engineering company still exists, but I’m always happy to see the housing!

A little breezy but at least you got the views from the Old Man. A great place to explore around all of the old workings and on those quiet days you can almost hear the hammers fall on the slate. Great video and thanks for taking us along.

Quite possibly the most stunning video on RUclips. Absolutely everything. Brilliant blue skies transform into brutal grey cloudscapez. Open, green hillsides become rough, grey ridges. Your vidoes are inspirational to me. I only an hour away from the Lakes and hope that one day our paths will cross

Hey Abbie, I was already hoping you would visit Coniston Old Man in one of your walks! Have you seen the Time Team episode in which they excavate the Elizabethan copper mines around Levers Water? It's titled 'Lost Mines of Lakeland' and gives a detailed insight into the lives of the miners that worked for all those years in this beautiful but unforgiving landscape.
Anyway, thanks for taking us with you on yet another wonderful hike in these blustery conditions!

Never been up Coniston Old Man before, so I particularly enjoyed this one. It looked a great path to walk on allowing time to admire the views, rather than constantly watch were you put you feet. I loved the ridge walk over to Dow Crag, Buck Pike and Brown Pike, a definite walk for me in the New Year. What a great day, although, not too keen on that adder mind, cheers Alan

I climbed Helvellyn in much the same conditions as you did this walk. When I climbed The Old Man conditions were good and clear although later they deteriorated cloud and drizzle came in quickly. Did the same loop as you.
I think those mines should be cleared up and the hills returned to their natural state as far as is possible. They are a scar on the landscape of the hills.
