I thought I needed all the buttons, but I got this keyboard and the META layer is a fine replacement for some of the shortcuts that I used the numpad for
Hmm... Steelseries is having their Madness sale right now and this Apex 7 TKL is only $99.99 . I don't even need a new keyboard but finding one with my favorite Brown switches is becoming harder and harder so I might have to make the plunge and I came across your review. What a superb review. Thanks for making me spend $100 on something I absolutely do not need at the moment!
Not sure! It's not a bad keyboard at all. The screen isn't the most useful thing ever but I still like it. My guess is it's people who still expect to only spend $30 on a keyboard and want something this expensive to clean their room for them, too, lol
I own a Corsair K70 (Brown), Corsair K65 (Cherry red), and this keyboard with Gateron reds and it is by far my favorite. Corsair makes great keyboards, but the Steele Series TKL is amazing.
@@wakaflockaproject Browns are ok, but I like the linear feel of the reds, particularly the Gateron reds that Steelrseries uses. They are just really light and quick.
I currently own a Ducky One 2 Mini keyboard that I got in December and I'm already looking to switch. Not because the keyboard is bad, if anything it's one of my favourite keyboards so far and my first ever 60% board. My issue lies that it's almost too compact in that I lose some efficiency in typing or even certain games because it's so packed. Like for example I've been playing a lot of minecraft recently and it's impossible to open chunk borders and scrolling commands is a bit of a hassle with holding down Fn and then using JKIL as arrow keys.
I agree. I've been using the ducky one 2 mini from 2020-present. I'm looking to switch now to this TKL because I need F-keys and pressing FN everytime is such a pain haha...
You have to upgrade to the Pro to change the actuation distance. The actuation force cannot be changed unless you want to take the board apart, desolder all the switches and change the springs
How come I've watched like 10 reviews of this keyboard (and the Pro version) and not a single one of them mentioned this Meta Layer? I'm a helpdesk support technician and I've been wanting to move from the Apex keyboard (the original one, with two extra macro columns on the left and one above the Function keys) into a mechanical keyboard from the brand and I'm glad a found an Apex 7 (Brown Switches) for 122 bucks. This simply allows me to basically retain all the previous macros in a smaller board, with better switches and actually bind my macros more intuitively to letters instead of the M and MX keys. I didn't receive it yet but this has just made me happier of my purchase. Too bad I didn't buy the TKL version. I wanted that numpad exclusively to bind macros, but now I see I don't even need it! Anyways, great review man. Keep up the good work!
Had a Durgod hades 68 (65%) that I used for about a year, which I'm replacing with an Apex 7 TKL... I feel super weird with *so many* keys in front of me now. I love it, but I also learned: 65% keyboards are the BEST. I lose nothing by going back to the Hades but immediate Fx keys, which are rarely used anyway, and gain about 4cm worth of mouse space.
Can you configure profiles for any program? I work as a translator and it would be lovely to make a separate profile for each translation software. Can it also display assigned shortcuts to keys?
@@DetroitTech For example, if I switch profile (e.g. from Photoshop to translation software), can the LCD display the name of the new profile instantly at the time of switching?
I do not recommend the atk 7 bc of you I have not found a method on how to adjust the key activation and I honestly don’t think there is one so y’all should just get the pro 100 I’m pretty sure that has key actuation
They're just different switches. It depends on if your want the optical switched from the Pro. Honestly, I don't think it makes much of a difference except you can adjust the actuation point on the Pro.
Wallpaper Engine on steam probably. Its like $4, but you get access to a wide array of wallpapers from animated, to animated with audio, or just basic wallpapers.
There is no actuation force option, just different switched. There is no actuation distance option on this model, you have to go to to the Pro version for that.
I got this keyboard about 18 months ago and i gotta say, do NOT buy this keyboard. The volume scroller/knob started giving me unreliable inputs about a year ago - not a super big deal, I'm not changing my volume too often and it works well enough for its purpose. However, a few weeks ago my A and Q keys started randomly not registering or double and even triple registering keystrokes, since then more of my keys have had the same issue. I have the "red" switches on the keyboard, not the special adjustable ones. Due to the proprietary nature of their switches and not having the switches for sale on their own, I have not been able to find replacements for the broken switches. I should also note that the N key rollover claims are questionable as when I play Overwatch I frequently have trouble moving around and activating my abilities
It's a luxury but comes at a huge real estate cost, those extra three inches makes all the difference for me in a too wide stance and a just right stance, left hand on keyboard right hand on mouse next to keyboard. I just ordered the TKL of this board.
Is TKL your preferred size or do you need ALL THE BUTTONS!!!??
i need ALL THE BUTTONS for MAXIMUM GAMING POWER! :D Hope you're doing well
I got the apex pro with ALL the buttons today. Very *buttony*
