    Thank you for the videos. I've been been fishing up in the Sierras for 30+ years. Over the years i have fly fished, crawlers, powerbait, thomas buoyants, castmasters, spinners, mini jigs, marvel fly with water bobble, drop shot with miniworms. I have pretty much tried everything I have prob caught the most fish with the buoyants (red/gold). With some really good days and some really bad days. I have seen you and others absolutely kill it up there 50+ fish on the mini jigs. I like to adapt to my surroundings but couldn't catch anything with the mini jigs (wrong technique) while standing 30 feet from you.
    I went up this weekend with the new set up. I bought your 180 yd 4lb braid. I first backed 3 reels with 20lb braid then top shot the reels with 60 yards of your line then added about 8 feet of the 4lb floral carbon you suggested. First day I tried your technique at Grant and June with no success and quickly gave up. We were at Little Virginia the next day and everyone was catching fish. So I knew the fish were there I tried the mini jigs and had to learn the speed and up down movement. Once i got the movement down i had a really good day with the MJ. We went to Mary in the afternoon and caught a few in the 3lb range at one of the inlets with the MJ while others were not catching fish. The MJ definitely takes patience and i still have a chit ton to learn. I'm using a 6'9" one piece St Croix UL fast action. This is my shore rod. it seems to cast well enough and I might upgrade to a longer medium fast soon. I also float tube and use the same st croix in the 6 ft version. Its harder for me to deal with longer poles while in the float tube Is the re a 6 foot ul mf rod that you would recommend. $150-400 range?
    Thanks again.

      Thanks for the support and so glad you’re starting to get the technique. I definitely don’t recommend not using a entire spool of braid on each reel 60yards is not a good idea if you ever hook a big one and time to time you should cut 10 ft off now and then when the line loses it’s color and starts to get old . I don’t know any shorter rods I never use less then a 7’6 even on my float tube you definitely want that cast ability and a longer rod puts more of the fight in the rod when fighting a big fish .

      @@GoldenStateFishing I have over 150 yards of ultra thin 20lb braid backing + the 60 yards of 4lb braid for a total of 200+ yards of braid. All my spinners have this braid backing that i never have to change out. when i run low on my 2lb or 4lb top shot i add more to my 150 yards of backing.
      if i get spooled on 200 yards of line its time to batten down the drag and hope for the best.
      i always hated changing out and throwing away line that was half way down the spool. Now i don't have to. I hope this makes sense.

    What are you thoughts on using those micro metal clips ("Quick Fly Fishing Snaps") to attach your mini jig hook eyelet to the 4 lb fluorocarbon bumper leader? I see you like to reverse thread the tube onto the hook to avoid having to retie, but metal clip much faster and easier. Do you feel the clip negatively effects the action of the tube? Do trout shy from the clip? Great video. Learned a bunch! I too had a fishing mentor. He changed my whole approach on how I fish. I enjoyed hearing the story about yours and how it related to Mini Jigging.

    A 2" dark colored tube jig on a 1/16 th ounce jig head, catches a lot of trout here in Utah. All the streams and lakes have leaches in them.
    Think the trout mistake the tube jigs for leaches? Caught several 25 to 30 inch browns and tigers on them.
    This might make you mad???
    I hate power bait and would ban it if I could. No one wants to go home after catching a four fish limit, so they try to release gut hooked fish. Dead fish floating all over Panguitch lake, where I fish.😖

      Thank you so much 🙏 you can definitely do it in moving water but it’s a little different. You must cast up stream and let the bait drift back towards you while jigging and reeling in the slack from the current. Like any river fishing look for slower spots where fish will be hanging out in .

    If you ever go to Japan their ultralight trout fishing is a whole different ball game over there and the reels and rods are beautiful! Some of their techniques are poetry in motion. But anyways From my experience jigging for crappie with mini jigs to Trout. Using a Moderate/Moderate Fast action 7’6” rod works best. Using a “Fast” action rod isn’t as proficient due to it being flimsy therefore when you cast the tip of your rod will bend down and cause your jig to not reach farther distances or worse. So I recommend Okuma Guide Select Pro because it’s Moderate Fast which is perfect. Better than Daiwa Presso and Phenix Rods(eventually I’ll buy one though). For line I’ve been using Phenix but after a while using it I still go back to using Berkley Nanofil because Phenix Braid gets frail after not using it and you will lose fish. And as for spinning reels I use Daiwa Exceler(new and old one) due to it being not so expensive(99 bones) But that Seaguar Fluorocarbon is top notch 👌 expensive but worth it 🔥

    • @GoldenStateFishing
      @GoldenStateFishing  10 месяцев назад

      Our Katana rods we make are moderate fast I totally agree. All my reels are Japanese that’s all I use I hate American stuff plus there reels are all shallow spool made for braid . I hate phenix rods but there is a couple models that aren’t too bad . Yes I only use Tatsu Seaguar for my leader .

      I’ve owned the guide, select pro and the phoenix, Mirage, and dragonfly from my experience. The guide select feels undoubtably cheap, compared to a dragonfly or Mirage less sensitive and too stiff to bounce a jig and low quality guides decent spoon rod through

    • @GoldenStateFishing
      @GoldenStateFishing  7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes guides especially make a huge difference that’s why we only use Fuji torzites they cost about $100 a set but way worth it .

    • @KimchiJerry
      @KimchiJerry 7 месяцев назад

      @@anthonyramirez8631Yeah I’ve tested the phenix rods and I did notice the difference. In my experience the only thing that’s cheaper is the reel seat. It starts to separate over time. But for a cheaper setup I recommend the guide select pro and Daiwa exceler LT or Shimano Nexave which cost less than $80. But if you’re mini jigging your rod shouldn’t be too flimsy because you won’t be able to cast far and you’re going to have knots at the tip because your rod will take time to revert back so essentially you’re just going to be casting down. That’s why I love the guide select pro because it’s moderate fast/fast action so it flips back up and helps with casting the jig farther.
