Shame 3 never got released in English. In my opinion it was the best of the series. Edit: after playing 4, yeah this is still the best. Not saying 4 is bad, it's great, but 3 is still the best.
But does 3 have a homicidal maniac that almost gets the squad killed multiple times but no one blames because "Raz is like that lol"? Or a romance story as deep as: Claude essentially saved Rileys life by stopping her from running into a burning building when they were 8, so she absolutely despised him for it for like 12 years before deciding he "changed" whatever that means and being into him again? Didn't think so.. Also, a practice match in the middle of an occupied city with non lethal mortar shells, grenades and AP tank rounds.. For some bread and bacon.. 4 Is the true clown game..
You can beg them for a kickstarter for localization. Many companies and Japanese companies are starting use the Kickstarter method to localize japanese visual novels. It is a solid method since a company can set a set minimum of people commit to the game and give the company profit and/or give a hands on look to the popularity to the game in question.
I played the translation hack. This is my favorite of the series. Took better parts of the second while removing the fluff, and had pretty memorable characters.
Valkyria 2+3 HD on PS4 would make a lot of sense. I'm surprised it didn't already happen between the first remake and the new one coming out. But maybe it'll still happen since the new one is connected to the first, I believe.
The PSP is well known as the "JRPG Machine." And not only is the PSP not the most popular handheld in North America and Europe but more popular in Japan, but the case is the same for the PS Vita that's pretty much dead except in Japan.
Silva The second is way more Anime than the first one. It takes place in a military high school-esque training school. It's way less story heavy and more about the individual characters which is something I wish the first did better. I think VC1 is better though.
That doesn't sound too bad to me. As long as the gameplay is still solid it would be nice to get to know my squad better. Outside of the Big 5 you don't learn to much about the soldiers under your command in VC 1. Though I do still love that they added some Skies of Arcadia references in the first game.
Harrison Scott Yeah, I wasn't the biggest fan of the second game, mainly because of what you said. I'm also not into games that have fan-service and where gamers obsess over waifu's and who to ship; it just gets too cringey haha, but I did manage to enjoy Persona 4.
1.28 Correction, there are actually three other classes that are unlocked a little later in the game: Sniper, Gunner, and Fencer. Imo, Valk 3 managed to achieve the best overall gameplay balance in the whole series, which only makes it hurt a little more that it never saw an official release outside of Japan.
You should do a feature on Shadow Tower Abyss for the ps2. Yeah a sequel to an obscure spin off to the slightly less obscure franchise Kings Field probably a strange choice. But SH:A was a very advanced game for its time and had a lot of the dark horror themed elements that one could argue served as a inspiration to From Software's Souls series. It's also really fun.
I adore the first game, and only discovered it a couple of years ago on Steam. I was real disappointed to find out that its only sequels were on the PSP. While I can't imagine it happening, it'd be amazing if another game in the series came out on the Switch, or at least Steam.
With Valkyria Chronicles ported for the PC, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch I think there is hope we would see an official release the third entry along with the second in the near future. Am looking forward of buying the Valkyria Chronicles for the Switch. :)
I'm just hoping any Valkyria series that will be released in the future, would be marketed much better by Sega Seems like the series is still quite underrated now, even if Valkyria Chronicles 4 has just been released.
Did you know: The 422nd Penal Squad, Nameless, is a reference to a real American Squad also named the 422nd Infantry Regiment of the United States. The 442nd Regimental Combat Team is an infantry regiment of the United States Army, part of the Army Reserve. Most of the families of mainland Japanese Americans were confined to internment camps in the United States interior. I think we'll eventually get it released in due time. I remember importing the soundtrack for VC3 way back in 2011, not only because the series has great music, but I love everything that Hitoshi Sakimoto composes.
THX U for translating Valkyria Chronicles 3 so MUCH. You did amazing job. You doing it possible to play such a great game for western audience. Great job, maggots!!
This one hurts me. I love Valkyria Chronicles 1, and Kurt and Reila were some of my favorite units in project X zone. Hopefully they bring this game over someday.
So I finally got done playing this today. Have to say it was a really solid game. Enjoyed it a lot. Shame it wasn't localized because the fan translation while good enough I suppose was a bit sloppy in all honesty. (6:10 I mean seriously they called THAT translation completed? Some parts were left untranslated and a lot of parts that were like I said were done really sloppy.) 5:06 Yet they were fine with doing that for the PSP by reusing materials and the engine from VC2 for VC3?
It's because they can easily expand far more upon it. But reusing the PS3 means people will expect less than 30 second load times just to get in the fucking game.
I Never understood Why developers would bring a sequel to a weaker console? You could make a Spin off title but a sequel ? Why downgrade from the ps3 to the psp ? What is the gain ?
because the first game was a risk and it bombed lol and the ps3 at the time there was doing shit. So they went for the platform where games where actually selling on its very understandable why they did it.
To clarify, there are 5 classes in VC3, but with more classes unlockable as you progress. (The first one being Sniper) While VC2's poor sales made VC3 not translated in the end, I'm very glad they're going all in for VC4. I hope the incoming 4th entry sells, because VC4's sales will define the future of the series.
i really love this franchise, the fact that we haven't seen a proper home console sequel from it is really sad... i gave up asking for a proper sequel since 3 was announced. Now i just want a remaster of the psp ones on ps4... C'mon Sega!
I didn't know 3 existed until playing Project X zone, and that made me like the characters. But I'm pissed that we never get it in the west. I totally would've wanted to play a darker story more than the happy story that Valkyria 1 had
I remember being SO excited back in the day, after playing VC2 and then hearing from practically every gaming news outlet that VC3 was to be released worldwide. I think PlayStation Magazine even had a North American release date.
I could never get into the gameplay of Valkyria Chronicles, however the story is just simply amazing! I would love to try it out again if they release the 3rd one on PC.
"development staff considered the third entry to be the first sequel" I'm sorry, but I can't seem to understand this sentence. It means that they feel like VC3 is the actual sequel, and VC2 is more like VC1.5?
For those who didn't know, Senjou no Valkyria 3 had a 2-part OVA ( _or was it 3?_ ) which somehow manages to be better than the entire 20+ episode of Senjou no Valkyria 1. Or maybe that's just my opinion. Either way, the Nameless in my opinion are the more interesting characters.
Luckily I have the English patch and I'm quite enjoying it, Thank you so much for the people who patched it, and I hope Sega releases a "Special Remastered Trilogy edition" on PC and Console.
Im playing this right now, and holy shit... it beats the first game in so many aspects! its only held back by the limits of the PSP and not having big maps. But the story, the characters, the new classes and everything else is better, its particulary great that this time the squad characters aren't randomized, you get it as the story goes on, so all of them are part of the story and have their own personalized missions. So the team is a lot better than in previous games, i really love the characters!
This game is pretty good, if not for the PSP budget it may have beaten the quality of the first game. Would recommend looking into the Extra edition version of this game as there is a Fan English translation of the game.
Well, when you think about it, because Steam is a digital distribution platform, the production costs (which is the actually costly part of "translation costs") would be null or nearly null.
Thing is the developers have stated that if they decide to release VC2 and 3 on Steam they would rather remake both games completely and more akin to VC1/V:R So in short, it has a chance but not in its original form
Tik On that subject, I am REALLY concerned for valkyria revolution, it looks really... questionable. I hope I'm wrong and it turns out great but as it is I'm not holding my breath over it...
I am still pissed of that this isnt available officially in English. We got the fucking art book but not the actual game. SEGA, making bad decisions since 1989. They make great games, but are run by complete idiots.
The company is positively changing ever since they acquired Atlus, so who knows. If Valkyria Chronicles 2 gets remastered for PS4, maybe a Valkyria Chronicles 3 may get remastered with an international release too!

The PSP entries fixed a lot of issues with the first game's formula that sadly VC4 just decided to completely ignore and put back how it was. VC3 remains the best of the series, IMO.

Please do a Region Locked dedicated to the Sailor Moon video games, especially "Sailor Moon Another Story" on Super Famicom, because most of them has been Japanese exclusives and it's seems BANDAI NAMCO has no plans to release or re-release any Sailor Moon games on the main consoles anytime soon (I know I know they released Sailor Moon Drops on Android/iOS devices), but when comes to Dragon Ball Z/One Piece/Naruto its seems they release a new game every other year. Give Sailor Moon a chance on the spotlight.

I LOVE the Valkyria series, i'm still holding out for a full port to Steam seeing as the majority of the Legacy of Kain collection (PS1) is on there aswell as other smaller titles -compaired to their main series- like Neptunia U and Blanc+Neptune vs Zombies which were on portable systems.. or maybe i just have too higher hopes for the improbable from SEGA
nice seeing a high note ending to leave off on. ive been wanting to play this series, but knowing i couldnt play the 3rd game made me a bit bummed out. maybe someday Fate/CCC for the psp can get that fan translation finished.
Always leave someone on your main base...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! NEVER LEAVE THE MAIN BASE WITHOUT A SOLDIER! NEVER DO THAT!!! if you excuse me I an going to cry a little, remembering the time that i played this game.
Played the game when it was out and Loved it, too bad that my PSP broke first before I can finish the game... My fat PSP was old as hell at the time this was released.
Never understood why the PSP sold so poorly. It didn't have as many great games as the GBA or DS, but it had its share of original titles and ports worth playing (love me some Disgaea and Summon Night). More importantly, once you put some CFW on it, it was an amazing system for emulating previous handhelds and consoles prior to the N64 (played PS1 games that Sony deemed unworthy of a Playstation Store release and Japanese only GBA games mostly). I still play it about as often as my other consoles.
JRPG's are far from console sellers in the west; that's also why the vita died when the best games it had too were JRPGs and ports (and a bunch of horrible hardware decisions as well)
Will Phantasy Star Portable 2 infinity get covered? It shares a similar fate... And this is while a similar expansion release, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, got localized.
Yeah, their were couple other Sega games on the PSP that never saw the light in the west, Phantasy Star Portable 3 and I believe the Shining series never came here.

A shame this game never came out because I loved playing as Riela and Kurt in Project X Zone.
I think you guys should cover the Danball Senki series.
Can you do a region locked episode about Initial D Arcade Stage and its console ports?
Please Sega, release 2 and 3 for PS4 as a remaster. I love 1 and 2. I want them to be as beautiful as the first one.
that's crazy I am literally playing vc 1 right now when this was uploaded, and was wondering if they made sequels
Hey Sega, remaster Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Valkyria Chronicles 3 for the PS4 and PC!
I already watch it on gaming chronicles, but can you talk about Sakura Taisen, since this is Sega and Valkiria is kinda a Sakura Taisen spiritual succesor?
Wait...those characters were in PXZ1.
VC 1:OP militia squad
VC 2:Civil War
VC 2:Penal squad
VC 4: Spec ops:High School Rangers
VC 5:Somewhere near or in Galia, maybe the civil war?maybe naval warfare?maybe it's time for aircrafts to rule? OR MAYBE THERE WILL BE NO VC5 FOR US TO PLAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
now I want this
Well they didn’t make that mistake with Valkyria 4. And they made it for the Switch and Play Station
hope you guys cover that last Suikoden game released on PSP
two things I want from sega. valkyria chronicles 4 on home consoles and skies of arcadia 2. JUST. DO IT!!
I LOVE the Valkyria series, i'm still holding out for a full port to Steam seeing as the majority of the Legacy of Kain collection (PS1) is on there aswell as other smaller titles -compaired to their main series- like Neptunia U and Blanc+Neptune vs Zombies which were on portable systems.. or maybe i just have too higher hopes for the improbable from SEGA
one of my favorite war games..next to advance wars
nice seeing a high note ending to leave off on. ive been wanting to play this series, but knowing i couldnt play the 3rd game made me a bit bummed out.
maybe someday Fate/CCC for the psp can get that fan translation finished.
I have this game on my phone, translation patches are available.
Best Valkyria game ever
Defenitively Code Name S.T.E.A.M's inspiration
Always leave someone on your main base...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! NEVER LEAVE THE MAIN BASE WITHOUT A SOLDIER! NEVER DO THAT!!! if you excuse me I an going to cry a little, remembering the time that i played this game.
Played the game when it was out and Loved it, too bad that my PSP broke first before I can finish the game...
My fat PSP was old as hell at the time this was released.
I'd love a game like this on the Switch!
The gameplay reminds me a lot of Code Name: Steam.
People remember that game exists, right?
Mr. Pokirby i think this game series came out before code name steam
Never understood why the PSP sold so poorly. It didn't have as many great games as the GBA or DS, but it had its share of original titles and ports worth playing (love me some Disgaea and Summon Night).
More importantly, once you put some CFW on it, it was an amazing system for emulating
previous handhelds and consoles prior to the N64 (played PS1 games that Sony deemed unworthy of a Playstation Store release and Japanese only GBA games mostly).
I still play it about as often as my other consoles.
JRPG's are far from console sellers in the west; that's also why the vita died when the best games it had too were JRPGs and ports (and a bunch of horrible hardware decisions as well)
Now everyone can enjoy the game with Valkria Chronicles fully English translated by fans of the series.
i loved the first game. Any way for us in Europe to play the other games? psp region free? emulators?
Will Phantasy Star Portable 2 infinity get covered? It shares a similar fate... And this is while a similar expansion release, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, got localized.
"The developers considered VC3 to be the first sequel" So...they retconned VC2 then lore wise. Oh, thank god.
Actually, no, several VC2 characters make short cameos, in some cases even as mission specific guest units.
When are you guys doing PSO3?
Ohhhh i had so much fun with this game :D
Squad 422 >= Squad 7 > Squad E F > Class G
Yeah, their were couple other Sega games on the PSP that never saw the light in the west, Phantasy Star Portable 3 and I believe the Shining series never came here.
I know one of the shining games came over. It was fantastic, shame more never came over.
