I have a question for you, but don't want it to be public. Do you have a area where I can ask you a more personal question about the industry?
$180ph for only 5hrs of work is a Godsend..But lets be real in the real world..do you think it only takes 5hrs to fix your truck? This doesnt even include the parts you have to spend...
sometimes i wonder why truckers want to be truckers unless they work for a company and make basic wage.
yes the basic wage is still 2X more than working at some warehouse job, but you still working for the man. The real secret in Trucking is to OWN your own Rig free and clear and do your OWN repairs so that you can leave the others behind and be and independent American. This is one old skool business like being a LongShoreman that can shut down America if they want if they decide to say..."We aint driving no more. You do it!" our economy will collapse without the trucking business, but as drivers you need to heed his words...fix your own sh"t
Now this is type of man you wanna to absorb all of his knowledge, he knows some things.
Hello davey
How are you doing
"can't get $10,000 in your bank account and think...what can I go buy"...WISDOM!!! PURE WISDOM!!!
I have $400 in my bank account what can I buy
All the trucks 25 years an older are just like 60s and 70s muscle cars. You can keep the exterior the same and completely rebuild the mechanics, suspension of it all. Sweet looking KW, beautiful. Keep the rubber side down skate board!!!!!
I know exactly what he means, I drove my whole life I retired in 2014, I’m 69 now and I’m thinking about buying a used tractor cash so I can work when I want, I miss the hell out of it, I can pretty much fix most things on the truck myself except the engine, I learned to drive on a tri plex Mack B61 no power steering and no A/C
Do it brother. I'm 73, been trucking for 50 years. I have a 1992 KW w900, been setting in a barn since 2010. I'm going to get it out and and start restoring it.
It was stretched before i bought it in 2001. It sets at 320 wheel base. Aerodine 60 inch sleeper. I love my KW
Respect
Been out here since winter of 1977. Stayed out here. 2024. My thumbnail gets the job done. 6 Peterbilt’s in 47 years. Keep on Truck’in. Don’t Quit. 69 years young
Wonderful interview that man is a real gentleman. May he live a long life doing what he loves.
Nothing cooler than a w900 kenworth. Love them old girls.
Gorgeous!
Luv that green interior!
Back when they put more than grey and black inside trucks.
Learned to drive in '81 W900.
Wow. This is a beautiful truck and driven by a driver who loves his job. I love to learn a lot from him. Keep on trucking. 👍
That truck is absolutely beautiful. Can't beat the classics for style and true looks. And theres something about them when you drive one that can't be beaten either. Classic kenworths are my favorite too
You surround yourself with guys like this and you'll be headed in the right direction in life more times than not.
FACT
WOW Richard, if I had known you were famous I would have gotten your autograph last summer @ the Petro in Colby, Ks. I’m the guy who saw the white paint and ask you if you had an 08 under the hood. I see you going the other way sometimes. One day we will be able to sit and visit again!’
This guy is a good example. Happiness is most important.
I got laid off in March after over 21 years with the railroad. I wanted to drive truck and I let certain people talk me into staying with the railroad. I moved to take another railroad job.
I'm glad some people (like this guy) chase their dreams.
I left the railway after a buyout .....bought 2 semis, now I'm up to 11 and 2 vans ...
That is one if not the best interview you have done. Thx!
This channel alone is what keeps my dreams alive about driving! People like this trucker make me want to just jump at my chance! Thanks for all the great content!
Richard is such a cool guy and I’ve loved that truck for years. Great video guys!!!
i been trucking 33 years i spent the last 19 runnimg local so i could raise my daughter by m,yself mom just left.....shes starting college now and im home by myself now and building up a 1984 pete 359 i bought....back on the road soon///nightcrawler says back again
One very fine ol A model
Excellent advice I'm 63 and hopefully health holds out would like another 12 years or so got GMC generals I collect them and work them along with petes and freight liners XLS get more compliments with my generals
08 was my last year.i still dream about it now & then.usually the 84 FLC i spent 8 years in.funny how you can get tuned into a vehicle so well, you can instantly feel when something isnt right.
A c-15 with a 6×4 you gotta be shittin me. What a rig. Gives me hope thats a dream truck right there
Great interview and what a genuinely nice guy Richard is.
I was hoping you'd feature that gorgeous A model as soon as I seen it in the background. Good honest man living his dream . That's America right there.
That was a great interview.
That is a very beautiful ride!!! I love the twin sticks. Really loved the advice...spot on!!!
Tough to beat a old A model Kenny w/ a set of boxes ..
Sharp driver - knows the game & got the right plan . Stash some cash & fix your own truck .
I believe I see this guy running down the 80 and 15 all the time. Beautiful clean truck. I dig it.
Hands down my favorite long nose design of all. God I want one
That's the kind of truck that puts a smile on your face!
Two classics right there 👍
He seems like a pretty good ol' guy!
My worst day doing what I love is better then the best day I had at work!
It's really not work if you love what you do
Love original gold paint. 100 percent spot on!
That color on the Kenworth is a beauty 🔥
Ride til I die💯
Mad love n support to you💫 KEEP ON TRUCKIN💪
That sleeper really brings out that classic look. Striking profile. What a beauty ❤
That's a bad ass kw! Love it clean and simple.
People often ask me when will I retire? I always say not until I have driven my last mile, when will that be? Only God knows 🙏I'm 55 now and still got leg room to roll. I've been doing this since 1987 and I have no plans of quitting !
Some truckers are made but real truckers are born! 😎👍
Roll on brother trucker ! Loved the old school KW!!! AND I REALLY ENJOY THE ASIAN Mai show!!!
This is the realist guy I have ever seen on a screen. I want this guy to be in my family
Fantastic Interview!!! Love this Channel

“Almost” right there with you.
Keep on Truckin!
love the truck. i do love when guys keep old trucks on the road by running more modern engines, but i would love to see the 3408 back in her some day. especially if the old girl gets taken off the road and dose shows
Great !
Beautiful Truck!!!!!
Love this video
Same here trucking until it's time salute
Did I hear you say you had 17 years IN with the "Railroad"as an Engineer and quit to go trucking???... I'm speechless LOL. Great stuff thanks for posting
That is a sick truck!
I like the green interior. Might have to copy it with a Peterbuilt! 😂
I have said for years, if an Owner Operator can get a niche in the industry an do a superb job for the customers in that niche, it is way better than playing the "find a load" thing. That is dog eat dog and can be very frustrating.
Bad ass ride. And the the color of money, inside and out.
That man right there forgot more then most people these days will ever know .. walking book of trucking knowledge
Man it’d be cool if you interviewed my dad! He’s been trucking a little over 30 years and he’s got some stories
Johnny Wayne of trucking. Sounds a lot like him. Needs a handle name like McLintock or Hondo.
A great video !!!
nice w9 kenworth i wish i had a old truck like that
Once a trucker always a trucker
It's a love hate relationship, all my buds have quit a few times, but we all feel the pull and still drive
Cool
Im going for my cld because i drove log truck bucket and dump with out a licence and as tree worker and im working as iron worker and always working welding on trucks and love trucks i think ill try long haul driving for little wile and probly just work and drive when i want to guys always need a truck driver i love to dive trucks
Nice 😀
This is the reason I never quit trucking, for 50 years now
Wouldn’t let me comment first, nice clean truck
who cares....
As bad as things are for truckers these days, I’d still love to drive. I hauled coal back in the mid 80’s with a chauffeurs license, I wish I would have grandfathered it to a CDL
Beautiful A model Also my favorite KW of All Times.Love that setup he running
And Truck !!
nice truck
It ain't a really a hood ornament ...it's a handle to open the hood. Life is all about the journey. It's every day, finding enjoyment in what you do.
I was married for 37 years but every day was drudgery with her. So instead of dying that way I divorced , now I'm with an awesome woman that is a great companion. It takes giving and receiving....love.
Dam right im gonna COME Emily!!!
Working in my shop my friend dose all his work and excavating and sead he couldent be in bisness if he dident work on his own stuff he couldent be in bisnes i help him alot weld all day for 100$ and so but he takes care of me.in one hand helps the other
Play them sticks driver👍
will you be putting the ELD in it to make it compliant?
I'm almost 45 and I've been out here almost 25 years and the only knowledge I have to share with the younger people coming in.......
Listen to what ya guts are telling you. If something inside tells you to stop and not do something, you should Listen to it👌
👏👏👏
That last day of 1984 bought a new 1985 W900 KW $85 K
Big step up from my 74 Flightier COE
So there that's my story.
The beauty of trucking i love it , is the brotherhood in the industry, specifically the old school drivers , like this gender-man
As we get older we dont want put up with BS any more and want to do what make us happy thats what i doing know.😁😁😁😁
First 👍
Being able to work on your own equipment is how you make money and him being a 3rd generation owner operator is how he knows to do that I'm sure he's got a shop and toolshis dad and grandpa used.. I was a 4th generation owner operator but got out of it.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I cut my eye teeth on this truck only 1979 model... 3408 with a 5/4
That title is nice I'm the same way just give me my tuned car and my truck and Imma live abroad
👍👍👍👍👍👍
No pockets in shrouds
I bet the inspection stations love this guy, seems like if you drive an older truck they just Hammer you during an inspection... They will find something wrong
At this point, he probably knows what's wrong before it even goes in the shop. He didn't build it and forget about it, when things go down, he knows and handles it prior to inspection.
@@dustinpollard6237
Apparently you're pretty clueless about the scale houses, they can find something wrong with a new truck if they want to... I've been in this game for 32 years I believe I know a little bit about something
When they see that truck and the way it looks they can tell that is been took care of he is one of the guys that when something needs to be fixed he gets on it Wright then he doesn't let it go
Driving trucks ain't fixing trucks, Some can do all of it, and take care of their own small business. But some can just drive and criticize every other piece of the logistics puzzle because they're the best. I dont know sitting on my ass for 32 years, you're absolutely correct. You're the king of that, Keep on winning at life champ! You came here to start negativity and get attention, I shouldn't have thought maybe you just missed the part of him building the truck, it seems to be just basic jealousy of another man getting positive attention from your respected peers and I guess it bothers you inside so much that you have to find a way to insult him. Then when its respectfully pointed out that he fixes his own vehicle, you just attack me instead. I'm sorry you're not smart enough to fix your truck or maybe its even the fact that the mechanics think you're an asshole and see you coming a mile away. They just charge YOU for being an incompetent know it all who can't keep his truck running despite 3 decades? Go tuck yourself in your sleeper and watch your favorite 70s trucker movie that inspired you and think about how amazing you are and thanks for allowing other truckers for existing on your planet.
@@dustinpollard6237
You're just a classless piece of 💩 who thinks he's a walking encyclopedia and dictionary, your true colors are popping out good
Furst 👍👍👍
Great content. You motivated me to start a interview series. The drivers have seen so much, they are great to talk to.
I would have kept the 3408. no computer hijinks.
parts are super rare now, I heard a crank alone costs over 25k
It’s good now but won’t last long
Need to slow down when showing the truck. Get a little more camera time on the actual truck in and out.
