    There's a big snow storm heading into Whistler and I need some new snowboard gear to be prepared for the powder day! My old snowboard boots are missing two hooks that hold the laces. They're also soft and warn out, so my heel lifts up while riding. I'm heading into Showcase snowboards in Whistler to check out their boot selection. I'm interested in trying on some different brands and different lacing systems. I'm also in the market for some new snowboard bindings and possibly a powder snowboard. I've demoed five snowboards on the mountain which have given a good idea of the type of powder snowboard I'm interested in.
    The snowboard boots that I purchased are the Burton Ion's. They were the most comfortable boots and they had a great lacing system with the speed zone laces. I also picked up Burton Malavita bindings. These binding had straps that really made my foot feel locked into the snowboard. They're also a mid flex binding which is great for all types of snowboarding. Finally I purchased the Yes 420 powder snowboard. This is a short and fat board with a big nose and small tail. This is an ideal snowboard for Whistler because the short length makes it ideal for quick turns through trees!

    3:42 I went into a snowboard shop for my first time buying gear and the store owner was an ex pro who helped me pick out everything, even sold my board (Arbor wasteland 2017) for $400 cuz that was my budget.
    I brought in some DC boots that I bought at sportchek at size 12. Normally I wear shoes around size 11, and he told me clerks will usually tell you to buy a higher size than your regular shoe size as usually it'll always feel tight during first fit. He made me try on a 10.5 salomon boot and heat molded it and it fit so much better. He said boots need to be broken in just like shoes do and after a couple of hours walking around in it my feet felt really comfortable in a smaller size.

      Man, same happened to me. Took me 3 months, two boards had been returned back. Started getting slightly pissed off, but thats what happens when you request too many advises and getting too deep into the subject, so finally get lost. However, I did manage to get a decent stuff.

      Me too. Maybe Kevin+Chris' faces with the logo. Or rather Kevin with the big white santa beard after hitting some serious powder runs haha. Just getting into my board sports now. Haven't really gone in this direction in my younger years (I'm 30 now) but I went earlier this year in March snowboarding after a 15 year hiatus. Last time I had shredded was at the ski/snowboard festival in whistler village 2002 lmao. Did really well after getting the rust out. But also went surfing for the first time just 2 mths ago in venice beach, cali. I'm becoming enamored with board sports and just outdoor ish altogether. Climbed Mt. Esja across the harbor last year in Reykjavik, Iceland...I need to start living like the beach, mountain, outdoor extreme sport bum I was destined to be. Might even buy a little board this year for the streets. What's happening to me?? LoL....

    Hello Kevin, I just want you to know something about the boots you bought. In my honest opinion, I think the boots aren´t just the greatest and most suitable not just for being burton. This does´t mean that they work great for you but you can´t be 100% certified you aren´t going to have problems with those boots (until you ride for some hours or days). I think almost 600$ for those boots it´s just to much money, you can find previous models for much less like the half of that amount. The main thing I want to tell you is I have burton moto´s 2016. I bought them for the incredible price of 90 $ (¡new ones!) and now I have a problem with my ankle. They fit my ankle too tight (like you said in the video) and causes pain in that zone (because of the compression of a nerve that goes trought the leg called sural nerve). So, it´s just a reflexion. I´m not very happy with burton (I tried some boards and the boots), I think other boots should work better for me. I need to go to the doctor to find a solution because I can´t really enjoy with that pain. I hope I´ll record soon a review about burton moto boots. Anyway, ¡enjoy your new boots!

      Kathi Furlan no way!! That sucks! I just finished a trip in my new nitro boots and I thought they were really really dope! However if I didn't pull the pull straps up like over my knee and really jerk them in there they'd come undone really quick but otherwise I thought they were seriously comfy! And all round pretty easy to use! Still looking at their bindings ATM they are aesthetically quite nice not sure about quality yet.

      Not even funny, and logistically incorrect. When denoting charge it’s either just; eg. Na+, or Ca2+... it’s not +1 or +2...

      He must be a special chemist 😂

    • @Anthony0231
      @Anthony0231 5 лет назад +1

      @@fed_zeppelin_ the + and the 2+ are the charge of the ions since Ca2+ has 2 elektron less than it should have. H has 1 elektron but a foton H+ has no elektron so the charge is 1+. S2O4 2- has 2 elektrons extra so it is negativly charged with those 2 elektrons meaning it attracts to 2 positive charged H-kations. So he is in fact right tho he just putted the plus infront of the number which doesnt matter that much if u understood what he is trying to say.

    • @eme1one
      @eme1one 5 лет назад

      @Mr. FortePiano so, a photon is just an H atom with no electron shell? is that why photons permeate thru everything? can a helium atom exist without any electrons, too? a helium photon??

    Looking for advice from someone who knows much more than me - my biggest problem with boots is my heel coming up about 1/4"-1/2" whenever Im on toe side and it kills my ankles. Ive tried 4 different boots over the past 10-15 snowboard trips and the only thing I do is tie my boots tighter which cuts off circulation and use heel inserts which are painful. Any tips on what lace up system I should get or what to look for when trying boots on? Thanks

    • @thaing
      @thaing 7 лет назад

      1) Heel lift: it is usually caused by the inner liner of your boots being too loose. The liners usually has some type of "J' shaped strap or molding that is designed to hold onto your heel on each side of the liner. I recommend taking the liner out and putting the liner on outside of the boot with your toes pointed up and inwards towards your knees so you can really sink those heels into the liner and tighten it. If your boots don't have a removable liner, do the same thing with your heel down on the ground and toes pointed up towards your knees as much as you can while tightening the liner. Tighten the liner just enough to keep the heel from lifting without cutting off your circulation and wait a few minutes to see if there's still blood flowing to your feet...if it's all good. Tighten the rest of your boots and wait a few minutes and see if there's still blood flowing to your feet...also, it could be a binding setup problem. If it's taking too much effort to the point where you have to lift your entire heel to go toe side, you might need to slide your bindings toward the toe side a little more to make it easier. If you're using rental equipment, some rental places will rent you equipment without giving you a proper fit test. The bindings on rentals will be set to wherever the last person using it left it. Most likely where the binding is centered over the board but your boots and feet are not. Generally, you will want to move the bindings to where your boot is centered over the board having equal boot over hang on the heel and toe side edges of the board so it will take very little movement to go edge to edge. These are the things I check for when I install new bindings or I just bought a new pair of boots to minimize heel lift. Heel lifts will happen but there are some techniques you can do to rest your ankles and calve muscles. 1) Slacker's technique: everyone that rides all day has done this at one point, you bend your knees, lean forward and rest the front of your shins on the tongue of your boots to create a toe side edge hold without using your calves. 2) The switch: ride switch on your heel edge for a few minutes.
      2) Blood Circulation: Boots....the normal shoe lace system has a lot of give and less likely to cut off your circulation because of the soft stretchy shoe laces where the boa steel cables and high strength rope speed laces have almost zero give and flexibility.

    I don't recommend the burton genesis bindings. One of my fellow snowboard instructors has had multiple pairs break in the high back form simply riding everyday.

    Even in the Yes line, I prefer either the PYL or the Optimistic for pow. Same float as the 420 but much quicker turn initiation... The 420 is overrated.

    I find boot the most restrictive of snowboarding items to buy. Mainly as I have very wide feet, so there's not many brands that fit.

    @SnowboardProcamp When i bought my own snowboard i bought one, the board came almost to my chin. How come you bought a smaller board? I know it handles fast corners better etc, but for a big person like you?

    • @ChrisEyres
      @ChrisEyres 7 лет назад

      this is a special design for powder, its super wide and short. normal board design if it comes up to your chin that is usually a good length
