Not sure if you guys had already thought about this, but you should have this podcast in front of live audience. Your podcasts are funny, full of wisdom and honest.
True..its Japanese what Toyota and Nissan are doing in the Indian market. They are just relying on their Japanese-born engineering*, instead of bringing their global products in the market, especially Nissan. They literally have now 2 models to sell in India. In Nepal, though being a far smaller market Nissan launched the X-Trail e-power with 144hp 1.5ltr petrol engine powering a 210hp motor(4WD) last December @1.8CR and also, we have many more choices from Nissan and Toyota... the Navara, Patrol, Leaf to RAV 4, their hybrids, Corolla, Yaris, Rush, etc
Haha the last 5 mins when conversation shifted to Magnite, I completely forgot that I came in here for X-trail, that's how uninteresting the car sounds. :P
after listening to this, I want to add some historical context to why Nissan’s reliability is always in question. Shumi referred to this in the ThisConnect episode about Japan but let me bring it here. Mid 80’s-early 90’s is when Japan had a major economic AND cultural boom. This was also when the JDM as we know it brought about the cars we fawn after. After this period, Japan brought out economic policies that basically popped the bubble they existed in, causing downturn of investment. They literally didn’t have the ability to make the “world-beater-in-tech” cars because the money dried up. Nissan, in comparison to Toyota, for example, didn’t have the money to sustain their “high quality ancillary parts” ecosystem. For a long time in the 90’s, their cars barely had any change. Then in the late 90’s, their financials showed red. Meaning that if they continued doing what they did, they would cease to exist. So, in came the Renault deal. And Carlos Ghosn. If it wasn’t for his cost cutting measures and sub-contracting parts deals to external OEM’s at a lower rate than what Nissan used to do, Nissan would have expired way back. But this deal and Carlos’ price cutters resulted in many an issue. The prime issue was CVT problems and engines going wrong. They had to deal with class action lawsuits for the same. And most of the cars ended up as fleet vehicles in US and EU. So, they were designated to the “bargain bin” section immediately. There is an “episode-series” by Donut Media about why Nissan sucks and I think it’s a necessary watch to understand why Nissan is operating the way they are.
Here’s a car no one bought a mild hybrid version of in uk so they are selling it here in twice the price ..calling it a cbu…and then the company is wondering why they aren’t doing well in India
Do you guys remember the Nissan Micra? We got the diesel in 2013 and I've learned to drive in that car and love it. I hope Nissan finds success in India. Any competition is good competition.
1:25 I would sell all my possessions and buy a GTR if they ever sold it at that price, but I don't know what I'll do after I buy it there's a big speed breaker at the entrance of my neighborhood
CBU cars is daydreaming, The Govt. Charges 100% tax (24lakh price+24 lakh import tax= 48 lakh ex showroom) and then extra taxes which goes uptill 52lakh on road. But think once if we can get this car in 25-26 lakh on road without import taxes. An ultimate smart new breed of engine.
The part where Shumi mentioned about tossing out the children via the panoramic sunroof was way more exhilarating than the Nissan Xtrail 😂 by the way the summary was a 10 on 10 and so was the first impressions, spot on as always.
If only 150 units, why not do CKD instead of CBU. Would the build be that much more expensive or could that be considered a test bench for production? Or even an SKD?
Nissan also has the Patrol, which is globally appreciated, super popular in the gulf, and actually came in the news some time back because a popular actor bought it.
This is japan's problem of their perception of India's automotive market, if not of India itself. Not only have they brought a below par car and overpriced it but blamed it on us saying this is the kinda of car we as a market want, which is definitely not true. And the last time we had a good japanese bike was R15 v1 and that for the cars was city gen 1 and 2. High time we moved on from japanese manufacturers, just like they do there.
Really want to know the insight of the person's thought process who decided to bring X-Trail to India with this config and these many numbers. 99% logical people will not buy it thinking how will nissan support 150 owners with parts and service, whoever buys one needs to be prepared for keeping the car in the service station for number of days during parts change or physical damage. It seems somebody in higher management of nissan just saw the movie Welcome and got impressed by the dialogue of Feroz Khan "abhi hun zinda hai". Then Bam!! We have the X-trail. Kartikeya's expression during Thar Roxx should be captured and used during the promotion the sales will surely double.
The way Karthik is explaining the X-trail. It feels like he is telling me the horror atmosphere near the haunted house and preparing our mind to expect the unexpected when entering the haunted house.
What an awesome looking vehicle - Me in 2010. The X trail seriously trails in the front design department. Its almost good and Im all in for the retro aspect but this has got a serious dated appeal ! And i’m not even talking about the engine or the features. Cars like this make my i20 look so much more vfm 😂
I have been working in Malaysia for a while now. Just to give everyone a perspective what Karthik mentioned, the Nissan gives different model options and all are global standards. It is considered one of the top tier brand. Nissan is missing greater opportunities by not launching different products or localising the production. They should have courage in delivering better value products. Awesome content asusual.
@@motorinc totally agreed. The pricing is very off. This should have been near 20lakh car for even it to be justified. But 40 lakh😂😂😂 It'll be a collector item.
I may be wrong, but I don't think this is uploaded on the RSS podcast feed. My podcast app (pocket casts) wasn't able to show this episode. Has anyone faced the same issue?
Although I am not impressed with the Xtrail's pricing, there are still not many options in that price range with a petrol engine. Tucson, Kushaq and Tiguan. The later two are still sold in their previous generation versions. I wish we had Mazda CX5, Mitsubishi Outlander or CRV in India.
@39:40 Shumi knows when they talk companies listen. Citroen listened to their C3aircross conversation and brought some more basic stuff to the upcoming basalt. Nissan should listen to this conversation around the Magnite
I bought the Nissan Magnite Last year top spec and I absolutely love it. Yeah for sure 5 years later I will have to install an after market infotainment screen. I hope with the facelift they make it even better.
In case of CKD, does a company start assembling the car only after it receives a purchase order? Or the car is assembled anyways and stored away, shipped out once the a dealer submits a purchase order?
06:46 thank you so much for highlighting this points. Almost all the RUclipsrs were going gaga over this car and ignored the Price and the Engine completely. 3-Cylinder engine car at 45L 😂😂😭
Nissan runs much better here in Australia compared to Indian market as it is overly priced. If you compare the prices, it is 57grand which is around 27lac Indian Rupees in Australia might be cheaper in US. Indian govt has a heavy levy on cars depending on their cubic capacity
Hello guys, great work as usual. Would love to see a podcast on car/bike etiquettes for both passengers and drivers . Passengers and even drivers can get annoying sometimes and create a distraction putting everyone at risk. Would love to hear your take on this.
2 questions - so when you buy a hybrid car the company doesnt give you a warranty on that battery used in the car for making it hybrid? - like now Tata is launching diesel cars and also other other companies too so like does this give assurance that deisel will be there for atleash another 10 years (for the span of life of car) and what if the government bans diesel in that time who will be responsible.
Talking about the ride and handling, instead of giving a binary adjective its good/bad, it will be better if you mention any benchmark car. Of course separate benchmarks for ride, handling and balance of ride & handling. Cheers.
Hey DB! This was a strange kind of conversation where the idea, the lack of the power in it, overshadowed the car. We get what you want. Thanks for letting us know. 🙏🏾
- Even if GT-R is getting phased out, surely Nissan could've managed to find 150 units in some country and brought them here as their halo product. It would've found enough takers even at ridiculous prices. - Thinking about Nissan in the old days, we must talk about the 370Z! Something like that shows what the brand is capable of. - Why isn't Nissan bringing the Leaf and the Ariya to India? or are they part of the new model-onslaught within 2 years?
This reminds me of the episode where you guys discussed "whats wrong with Japan." This is the prime example of why we think there's something wrong with the approach that these Japanese companies have.
At least if they would have priced it correctly, 25-30 lacs or something ex-showroom, I mean it would definitely have an advantage over its competitors, just like the magnite
If I was spending that much money, I would definitely go for a Skoda Kodiaq and save the rest of the money for fuel and maintenance. Skoda Kodiaq is Special!
With the registration cost of trail in Bangalore one could buy an i10 with that . 9 lakhs for registration. We could get the lowest variant of the magnite itself 😅

Oh that's easy! This is a haunted house you shouldn't even enter @nijojose4210. Thanks to the sky high entry prices.
03:07 That expression!
It's totally like that one friend getting ready to listen to all the gossip 😅
Nissan have the perfect sports car, the Z that they can mark upto 60L and keep in showrooms as a Halo car😇
at least it's pretty!
Would work better!
Quality audience for quality videos
What an awesome looking vehicle - Me in 2010.
The X trail seriously trails in the front design department. Its almost good and Im all in for the retro aspect but this has got a serious dated appeal ! And i’m not even talking about the engine or the features. Cars like this make my i20 look so much more vfm 😂
Well, at least it lives up to the name @Ashes-9!
Thanks RM for giving us the perspective from another geography! Hope all well.
What I feel is that Japanese companies make vehicles that are functuonal. Its just that we have been too much spec oriented in the past few years.
Does it make sense to have it priced so high though @SudhakarRao17? At these prices, the X-Trail is negative value.
@@SudhakarRao17 functional for India and modern/luxurious/fast for the world?
@@motorinc totally agreed. The pricing is very off. This should have been near 20lakh car for even it to be justified. But 40 lakh😂😂😂
It'll be a collector item.
I may be wrong, but I don't think this is uploaded on the RSS podcast feed. My podcast app (pocket casts) wasn't able to show this episode. Has anyone faced the same issue?
Poor poor Karthik. 😂 It's like Nissan laughed right at our face.
I smile at the thought of Karthik desperately trying to make sense of the car.
He needs R&R after this.
With all honesty, I was like this must be an old video, but then I was like Motorinc was no there in 2k14.
We're getting the Kodiaq soon @taurus50000 which might mean that the Tiguan is on its way too. But yes, having more options definitely wouldn't hurt!
@39:40 Shumi knows when they talk companies listen. Citroen listened to their C3aircross conversation and brought some more basic stuff to the upcoming basalt.
Nissan should listen to this conversation around the Magnite
Let’s hope Nissan is Udit!
I was waiting for the fortuner to come up in this conversation and as I expected, it did.
Summary rating - 10/10
How do you guys do this without taking notes? Insane skills!
😁
3:48 shumi & kartikeya comic expressions😂😂. Somebody make motorinc sticker collection
😁
I bought the Nissan Magnite Last year top spec and I absolutely love it. Yeah for sure 5 years later I will have to install an after market infotainment screen. I hope with the facelift they make it even better.
Glad to hear that @iamsidd_j! We look forward to the Magnite too, even more so now.
They should have brought in the Patrol, and like Karthikeya said, taken a price hit and launched it as the Halo product.
Shumi was right in the last episode of thisconnect where he said u have to pay more for raw feel of the. This x trail is the perfect example 😂😂
It doesn’t feel raw! It makes you feel raw. 😆
I would happily get a MG Gloster instead of this. That’s an underrated gem. Hope they invite you guys for its facelift launch.
🙏🏾
3:07 petition to add this shumi's expression on their motorinc merch
Gotta make it happen!
In case of CKD, does a company start assembling the car only after it receives a purchase order? Or the car is assembled anyways and stored away, shipped out once the a dealer submits a purchase order?
It’s done in advance. 👍🏽
Nissan should take karthi as their advisor, immediately.. even the Nissan CEO dont have this much clarity about the product.
Shumi goes on a blitzkrieg of summarizing the video.. awesome
06:46 thank you so much for highlighting this points. Almost all the RUclipsrs were going gaga over this car and ignored the Price and the Engine completely. 3-Cylinder engine car at 45L 😂😂😭
They were going ga-ga?
I saw a Nissan Patrol in Mumbai. It looks crazy and HUGE desirability quotient compared to the X Trail 2:59
Totally!
*"Shumi & his sunroofs"* a better romance than Twilight Saga!😂😂😂
Is this your idea of romance @ArunSapaare?🤣
Nissan runs much better here in Australia compared to Indian market as it is overly priced. If you compare the prices, it is 57grand which is around 27lac Indian Rupees in Australia might be cheaper in US. Indian govt has a heavy levy on cars depending on their cubic capacity
GORGEOUS SUV with silly strategy and pricing !
And then some more…
Hello guys, great work as usual.
Would love to see a podcast on car/bike etiquettes for both passengers and drivers . Passengers and even drivers can get annoying sometimes and create a distraction putting everyone at risk. Would love to hear your take on this.
Noted @ak8630! Thank you for joining us for this one.
2 questions
- so when you buy a hybrid car the company doesnt give you a warranty on that battery used in the car for making it hybrid?
- like now Tata is launching diesel cars and also other other companies too so like does this give assurance that deisel will be there for atleash another 10 years (for the span of life of car) and what if the government bans diesel in that time who will be responsible.
They don’t give guarantees that diesels will be around for 10 years. There is a warranty on the battery tech.
Nissan X-Trail in my city Pune is on-road Rs. 59.29 Lakh and for chennai its a Rs. 62.67 Lakh car like what 😮💨
Yep 😑
40:58 - Aaayyeez Brilliant!
🤣
Talking about the ride and handling, instead of giving a binary adjective its good/bad, it will be better if you mention any benchmark car. Of course separate benchmarks for ride, handling and balance of ride & handling. Cheers.
Hey DB! This was a strange kind of conversation where the idea, the lack of the power in it, overshadowed the car. We get what you want. Thanks for letting us know. 🙏🏾
@@motorincYeah. Totally get it👍🏼
VCR engines would have a huge tuning potential.
Summary 10/10 and the excitement of knowing somethingbnew is coming up is cool.way to go.
Stay tuned! 😁
They just had to get the top spec X-Trail!
Touchscreen is taken from Kicks units.. which was used in production....
🙏🏾
This episode is not yet present on Pocketcasts, I'd really appreciate that please :)
I think we need a special episode just talking about the shoes you wear!!
This reminds me of the episode where you guys discussed "whats wrong with Japan." This is the prime example of why we think there's something wrong with the approach that these Japanese companies have.
It’s disappointing for sure.
You know its a good day when you hear the MotorInc First intro music in the morning!😁❤
How goes!
Ouch! This makes triber look even better.
We respect the Triber.
Would this be a Honda CRV competitor in international markets?
At least if they would have priced it correctly, 25-30 lacs or something ex-showroom, I mean it would definitely have an advantage over its competitors, just like the magnite
Guess I’ll stick to my 2023 Kodiaq. After the X-Trail, my car feels like a VFM buy 🤣. Great video as always chiefs! Love from Bangalore!
Damn...Shumi is so witty... that THARO insertion was too good . 😂😂😂
Hehehe
@@motorinc I hope he never changes. 😁
39:06 And the electric Thar that’s going to come is Called Thar.e which is also translates to ‘yours’ in Marwari! 😮
😅
shumi's summary on the car is 10/10 but not the car itself.
🤣
If I was spending that much money, I would definitely go for a Skoda Kodiaq and save the rest of the money for fuel and maintenance. Skoda Kodiaq is Special!
Wise choice…
Guyzz bring the cars to the studio, it will be much more exciting.
Big fan kartheekya
We didn't get one @sidhant7923!
Even that variable compression is designed by Harry Ricardo in the 1920s.
With the registration cost of trail in Bangalore one could buy an i10 with that . 9 lakhs for registration. We could get the lowest variant of the magnite itself 😅
