Man Premo you don’t know how much we appreciate what you doing with this series💯
Fasho.. big Premo fan...
Word!
word - i hope he make a thousand of these!
Lets share the shit out of this
Amen!!
This man deserves every award going. Hip Hop without him isn't what it is today. He completely changed the culture!
@@shannoncassidy4423 If you don't know, then you haven't done your due diligence.
@@shannoncassidy4423 Hes one of the producers to give hip hop the gritty sound that it has. Particularly in New York.
@Shannon Cassidy By gritty he means the East New York sound, not the quality of the production.
@Shannon Cassidy Golden Era hip hop was epitome of the hip hop sound on all coasts. Premo’s work was part of many of the classic tracks from the era.
@@shannoncassidy4423 why are you here then?
It’s “unbelievable” that Premo didn’t have a gold single til this joint. Love this series. Can’t wait for ep 3!
Yo I'm shocked at that..all the classic hits from gang starr and let's not forget the work he did on illmatic. "Unbelievable" for real
It's really a crying shame y'all 😢
why would you even care? Real hip hop has NEVER been commercial/pop oriented. Heads never cared about charts. The greatest songs in rap weren't Top 20 Billboard hits at all.
@LeftHookLopez to the new generation not really and if so just the songs that they play on the radio

It's really not that shocking. Its a record for streets that made it onto the B side of a hugely popular radio song that made it gold. What others songs of Premier's was doing that?
Unbelievable is easily the best beat biggie rapped on imo.
Yes, that and " who shot ya", "kick in the door!"(produced by Premo) ." Who shot ya- not Premo produced but a good beat!
The floppy to Come Clean is that sick or what? That’s a Smithsonian piece.
Hahah…dang…you hit…it…The Smithsonian Classic Hiphop Floppy Disc Collection….faaak.
Here come the collector’s now. Holla at Preemo and curate that.
That goes for probably most of the discs Preemo had. It's literally a bag full of classics!
Put it on Archive.org?
Preem is the king of "stab" production! So many of his beats were simple notes that he transformed into absolute bangers. We appreciate you DJ Premier!!!!
Facts. He transitioned to that style around Hard to Earn. By 98-99, he had completely mastered it.
that and rando chops too. too ill
@@grinchoi1 Completely agree fam!
PREEM is the King. Period
Yes sir, 🌹🌹🌹while he’s living✌🏾
this means he has every floppy for every artist and song ever recorded at D&D or elsewhere....wonder how much unreleased shit he has...this is so dope....thanx Preem
Loads I’m sure
I need to hear that unreleased joint he did with 2pac
@@tefocus3538dam i never knew him and pac did a joint together
@@tefocus3538 Where did you hear about this
@@silewis9396 premo mentioned it in an interview he did
Preems stories are always the best. The dude remembers every conversation I feel in perfect detail. Can't wait for more!
Bro has an elephants memory in this game and his passion for the hardcore drum patterns is the difference maker man
Yea as a youngin listening to a lot of 90s and old hip hop in general, I appreciate Stories like this it gives me a much better grasp of how things were at the time.
Fr that's kinda what trips me out the most like yo I can't remember two days ago
I remember Preem talking about how Jigga called him The Memory Man cos when Preem sees him he often has a story for him that Jay may have forgotten. Preem said that he'd say "ok Memory Man what you got for me this time?" 😂 And imagine what Jay's memory is like!
The fact that BIG basically freestyle over this beat in one take is nothing short of incredible 🤯
Imagine what Big could've been if he kept using Easy Mo Bee and Preemo for all his beats!
It would be a 10000% dope if preemo played the actual sequence on the s950
"Unbelievable". One of the best songs I've heard. That R.Kelly sample was used perfectly
I was wonderin like damn he really is cancelled he got NO mention lol
@@keyfrom92 Either that or he didn't mention it for copyright reasons.
@@KoTM25681 most definitely as you heard the song playing…notice that they didn’t play the chorus!!! But it still was genius for primo to put that sample on 1 of the dopest songs on that album
I thought the same thing
@@KoTM25681 nah you just can’t mention his name no more in ANYTHING these days
Greatest Rapper of all time with the best producer of all time.. Unbelievable is definitely my fav BIG track and has been since I can remember. "Ain't no amateurs here, I damage and tear.. MCs fear me. They too near not hear me, clearly" Goodness Gracious!!
Talk!!!
yep
I remember when it came out..That is all you heard in the streets of NYC at that time..#GOAT
The flows and the way he delivers those rhymes is something else.
If you're ready to die, tell God I said hi!
Same!
"Unbelievable" is the best biggie track.
Who shot ya no slouch either we saw that last week with Jada but this price also showed how heavy Biggie was into production too …….. miss the illest emcee 🙏🏿
Respect
“Notorious Thugs”
@@n_1988 Yes indeed!!!
One more chance
I'm from the Stuy. When I was a freshman going to school in Queens in '93, my art teacher knew to throw this on at full volume every single time I stepped in the door. Still my theme song to this day. Shoutout to Ms Savage. 60's hippie type lady. The good ole days my boy.
Yes Ms. Savage!
A savage indeed!
Stuy here too, big up
That's so dope. What a great teacher
Cool story
See, it don’t take much to make a jamming ass record. Other than ingenuity and creativity. This is why Premier is my favorite boom bap producer.
TAKE BOOM BAP OUT THAT SENTENCE.
@@MentalPistol Well I can’t because he’s not my favorite all around record producer lol! But I feel you tho💯
100% and I actually think in most music(As far as my taste goes that is), the better artists, producers etc aren't trying to bombard you with 100 things at once. It's better with melody and a dash of chaos. Hip Hop itself, at it's roots anyways, is a very minimalist artform... But in the best way possible. Even today, all you need is a computer so in many ways, it's even more minimal than it was, although far less limited. Preem embraced that minimalist style of producing and IMO, that's why his music always stood out. I describe his music as "Sharp", if that makes sense? Just give him an MPC, some old records and floppy disks... That's all he needed to help elevate the artform of Hip Hop and DJing/Producing while ultimately becoming a pioneer. His drums are slick but hit hard, he knows how to use bass without overwhelming the track, his cuts/scratches are the sharpest in the game and he just has a knack for finding and flipping samples BETTER than anyone else. Idk who's familiar with the track I'm talking about, i don't wanna get him hit with copyright infringement so i won't say where it came from lol, but Preem used a piece of music from a particular film for an MOP track and when I first heard it, I remember getting goosebumps just for how slick he flipped it. And it's not like he chopped it up super crazy, he just found the best way to arrange it, lowered the volume on one thing, ran another at a faster tempo etc, he added some cuts and that's that... Another Banger. That simplicity is Hip Hop at it's purest.
@@mk-ultramags1107 Facts. Some people just hear things differently just as many people see the same situation differently.
@@MentalPistol Indeed. And It just speaks to people. I love putting someone on and watching them transform.
His sampling and scratching is just amazing there was times where i would just sit and think how he put these things together to fit so perfectly. He has his footprints all over hiphop
One day when we are gone from this earth, like the Venus de Milo, there will be a glorious marble statue of Premo in front of the Hall of Fame for the world to see... for eternity. The end.
The greatest influence of the 90s hip hop decade, DJ Premier. Period.
Its an overused word these days but Premo is truly a LEGEND! The amount of epic beats he has created laid the foundation for so many bangers. And when you hear a Premo beat you know it, he always has that signature sound. Thank you DJ Premier - a hip hop god!!
Damn I remember that song he's talkin' about. Dres from Blacksheep was on the hook:
"Jingle jangle, rippin' up from every angle -
Size em up knock em down here we go!"
This dude is and has always been outta here.
Dig how simplistic he makes his genius sound!
Peace to Premier, Gang Starr & Hip-Hop!
R.I.P. to Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal!
Biggie Small’s is the illest DJ Premier is the illest. Salute to two geniuses who delivered a classic. I love these stories Salute Preemo
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Premo is the goat 🐐 that man was a scientist musically and he was too smooth ahead of his time
My all time favorite Premo beat. Awesome to hear the history behind it. Always wondered where those "stabs" were from in the beat and hearing how he came up with it is genius.
I miss BIG so much. He was funny and witty. He had that give you goosebumps flow; he is unbelievable
Talk it!!
Like Bart Scott would say: "Can't wait!!"
This series is beyond amazing. This isn't just one of my favorite Biggie tracks, it's one of my favorite songs of all time, the Beat, Biggie's bars. This is Top Tier Hip-Hop.
Imagine how dope it would be if some of these diskettes were released to the public? Imagine loading a preemo sample floppy into your akai and making your own beats with it!
Premo needs a lifetime achievement Grammy Award for his contribution to music WORLD 🌎 WIDE!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As a producer myself...what's surprising about Premier is the fact he locks his beats in at ANY BPM!! Where ever it slaps at is the final tempo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💪🏾
Two episodes in and I'm already hooked on this series, outstanding work!
What a beat, what a classic
I never knew BIG but the day he died still remains one of the hardest times of my life, I remember like it was yesterday & it still hurts…
U peep the recent movie “City of Lies”? If not, def check it out! #ripBIG 😇
I love Preemo for this. Had to sound selfish I wish he loaded it up and show the process. But I'm thankful for this video.
This was so *JUICY!* 😎
I love how he shocked Premo without writing down some lyrics before he called it a night.
Lyrics can’t be stolen from the mind!
Someone people misconstrue this as being a show off, but it’s so many advantages.
B.I.G knew it and protected it before it became a fad in the industry.
I couldn’t believe how lucky/blessed I am for DJ Premiere to be doing a series like this. This is incredible, thank you so much for doing Preem.
All of your cuts are masterpieces! Rip GURU and BIG! Thank you for shaping the sounds of my life! Two legends/HOF’s right here!
I didn’t realize that the album was done already. I have always wondered how he used the “Biggie Small is the illest” line when it was on the same album lol
The greatest producer off all time bar none, the plethora of his work is "unbelievable " and unrivaled.
I personally find Madlib as the best producer.. however, yes I do consider Preemo as one of the greatest, and one of the most essential figures in hip hop
Always been my favorite off Biggies first album… Keep ‘em coming Primo!!!
Hearing this on the radio as a kid was a complete experience. I had never heard a beat like that before and I was a Premo fan since.
Premo is one of them dude who has an impeccable memory. He remembers all the samples, what came from where, his interactions with other rappers, even what lyrics from previous songs to sample.
Perhaps only Preemo could do this kind of series, with this much sonic fire, with these stories, about working with some of the most legendary artists of all time
“1000 grams of uncut to the gut ..”
Bet he got endless amount of stories!🔥🔥
That “UNBELIEVABLE “ is still a BANGER 🔥💯🔥👀..🔥 CLASSIC 🔥
This beat had a huge impact on me, so it’s funny to hear he was just doing his boy Biggie a favor and it happened by chance. Still such a massive song after all these years. Respect!
I got a picture of this guy holding a disc with his mouth and scratching. This makes my whole wall beautiful. Premier is a living legend best DJ of all time for us hip hop heads
Classic! One of my favorite Biggie tracks together with kick in the door and crack commandments
Thank you Premo, we need to give you your flowers while you can smell them!! We appreciate you!
Sometimes I feel hip hop DJs' work outweights the one of the MCs. Thx for the knowledge, Preem.
Premo the GOAT. Those floppy disks bring back so many good memories. MPC all day!
Crazy how one of my favorite songs of all time was made on the fly. R.I.P Christopher Wallace!!! The fact that biggie wanted preme and no one else speaks volumes. Preme deserves way more credit and accolades man is a myth and a legend at this point. He’s like the chupacabra of DJing fr fr
Premier can stab me to death with "throw away" leftover beats anyday. GENIUS.
MY FAVORITE NOTORIOUS BIG JOINT!!!!💯💯💯💯
TRYING TO PLAY GUERILLA WHEN YOU AINT NO KILLA!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Premo. You a legend man. This series is so good. The world needs to see this. Hip Hop needs to see this. I can't wait for episode 100... 200... man never let this stop!
Yeah man, the processing in the drums chops and Preemo signature groove, this isht came so hard.
Loving these videos, keep em coming!

Everyone likes to forget but if it wasn’t for “Lovesick”, you wouldn’t know about Premier and or Guru.
No filler. So much info packed into such a short vid. Perfect
Love the new series!!
Thanks so much for bringing us this series!!
One of the greatest all time and DJ Premier is a legend RIP B.I.G. and GURU!
Premier: I don’t know if you read these comments, but I’ve always wondered about your mixing game. I always felt I could tell when Eddie Sancho mixed your joints versus when you did it yourself. And with all due respect to Mr. Sancho I felt you could do it better-that your mixing skills were the fourth virtue of your overall production talent, after drums, chops, and scratches. (Like, to me, “Ante Up” would not be the record it is if you hadn’t mixed it, though I know you didn’t make the beat.) How do you feel about this? Why did you outsource so many of your final mixes? I’ve always wanted to ask you this! (I’m bout to post this on IG too.)
Eddie Sancho did the "real" mix for Ante Up because credits say:
Mixed by DJ Premier
Engineer mix by Eddie Sancho
He mixed almost the whole album
Man I disagree Eddie Sancho is one of the best mixers for Hip-Hop. DJ Premier is a legend but he said himself Eddie increase his beats. Just listen The Ownerz by Gangstarr, Albert Einstein by Alc & P, or anything Eddie Sancho was involved.
@@Bal2oTheOne Okay, I admit I don’t know exactly what the liner notes mean (and I’m basing my inferences on the liner notes, and my ears, only). But-and I don’t have the liner notes in front of me-I thought Ownerz *was* mixed by Premier-I remember thinking, “Yes, he did it himself this time!” and that that was why it sounded so crispy. If not then my whole theory could be wrong. But a few of (what would have been) my all-time favorite Primo joints I believe would’ve been better served by him mixing them himself instead of Sancho, like “6th Sense,” “Boom,” and “Doobie Ashtray.” For some reason I don’t hear the same space and richness in Sancho’s mixes, and in particular on “6th Sense” and “Boom” the snares are grating to me. But this could all be psychosomatic. I’d be happy to stand corrected!
🙌 Thank you for making these videos 🙏
Been waiting for a series like this.
Love these stories.. keep them coming Preemo.
