as a 46 year old HipHop head, I marvel at how much I don’t know after listening to the legends like Premier bless us with this behind the scenes info. Good lookin ✌🏼
I respect that Kane admitted that he didn't fit Preemo's beats in an interview, he admits to rhyming like he was back in the day. R.I.P. to the late, great ODB, he played anchor on this joint for a reason.
The level of technical knowledge required to make this happen is amazing. We overlook the technological side of hip-hop, but Preem is making it plain for us, talking about the cables, the different drum machines, etc. You had to be a craftsman and a technician to make music during the inception of Hip-Hop. Salute to guys like Marley Marl, Preem, Large Professor, RZA, Diamond D and many others who put the work in to learn the arts of sampling, mixing, production, operating the equipment, and also having the ear to make great music on top of it all! This is why I love the culture.
Wu Tang Killa bees on the swarm." ODB perfect vibe to da beat. Kane got a new album lately that showed how he connected to the modern style of rap nicely. Peace Salute everybody. jea
Dope hoodie! Paying homage to the new school. Benny! Big Daddy is one of my favorite lyricist of all time and this is one of my favorite tracks from him. Thanks for sharing this ILL story Prem!
Loved Premier's music since teen days listening to Gang Starr classic LPs Step in the Arena and Daily Operation, then branching out from there to Jeru and Damaja, Stone's Throw records, and a whole world of great music. I always knew DJ Premier was a maestro and a walking music encyclopedia, but even though I have seen him perform Dublin and snippets of him talking on documentaries, this is the first time I've heard him speaking at length and learn what a gentleman he is on top everything else. What a legend.
People used to get touchy during the 2000s with the Napster and Bear Share MP3 music sharing days but if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have been able to absorb all the classic hip-hop from Rakim, Kane, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, and many others because when they were hot in the 90s I was still too young to buy tapes and even then even in High School not every CD music store had huge volumes of rap albums other than the contemporary releases. But I still remember like yesterday I had waited over an hour (slow connection) downloading Daddy's Home, Strictly Business and many others to my little SanDisk MP3 back in 2007 or 2008 so I could hear it while going for a walk to exercise. Also shoutout to Tony Hawk Pro Skater because that's what put me onto Mass Appeal and made me a Ganstarr fan 4 life. 😇
I have to say that I understand exactly what Preem means about wanting that mix. I think that's why a lot of people didn't realize he produced it. The elements of his style are definitely there (that little flutter right before it loops and the crazy bass line) but the drums def hit differently than one would expect. But it's still an amazing beat, regardless. Also, the MCs were all just outstanding. ODB just destroys it.
I’ve been releasing cypher based beat tapes called “cypher tapes” that were inspired by this song This song inspired a big part of my musical personality and style
I first heard this song in 2018 doing Uber eats shout outs to the legends and I'm a young cat if it wasn't for my independent contractor jobs I wouldn't know about none of these hits
This is possibly my favorite old school hip hop song of all time. DJ Premier, if you're reading this, thank you for doing these videos i hope you keep doing em. I loved the song before i knew the history behind it, and knowing the history behind it gives the future listens so much more depth
Classic posse cut straight Fyah another Preemo Classic. The great part of these episodes is Preemo’s back story breaking down everyone who was involved. Another Classic episode 🔥🔥🔥
Yo Premo, looking forward to you breaking down "Shyheim On & On". Till this day one of my favourite hip-hop song. Such deep lyrics from such a young Shyheim alongside those killer beats by you :).
Preemo! I love how you get into detail in these videos! You even showed us Scoob and Scrap and their dance moves Much respect to you and shout out to Easy Mo Bee the legend!
Love hearing all the history and cultural references behind these tracks. I'm from the UK and was obsessed with hip-hop growing up, but I feel like I listened on an almost superficial way if you know what I mean. Hearing these stories puts a lot of the jigsaw pieces into place.
" And let's just make one more thing understood That if I fart on a record, trust me nigga it'll sound good " That line by Big Daddy always had me crackin'up. lol
NAH, the FIRST appearance of Jay-Z was on a dude HP (High Potent) on a song called H.P. Gets Busy in 86 ruclips.net/video/Mt1KxZBpU5c/видео.html&ab_channel=BobSeger1981
No matter what song he highlights, he always has a good memory on the artist and the energy that was brought into the session. Much love Premier
Sauce money, Hov, Osiris, Shyheim and Scoob all laid their bars nicely

I would like for him to do Capone and Norega- " Invincible ", Sonja Blade- " Look 4 the Name!" That song with her is soooo underrated! 2 beats in one!
DJ Premier is one of the greatest gifts to the context of music
as a 46 year old HipHop head, I marvel at how much I don’t know after listening to the legends like Premier bless us with this behind the scenes info. Good lookin ✌🏼
It’s funny you just naturally forget sometimes of the different changes in hip hop. Like him mentioning the posse joints.
Yo word.

I Bought that On & On remix on cassette back in the early 90's. had the original on it as well. DOPE

That video got so much play time in my dorm room
I remember the 12”. What a banger! Wasn’t that the first time Jay-Z appeared on a track? Can’t wait to watch the episode!
That was not the first time Jay appeared on a track..... Jay was out in 1989, this was 1994.
Jay already appeared on a number of songs by his man Big Jaz O by this point.
Hawaiian Sofie was jay z’s first track. 1988
NAH, the FIRST appearance of Jay-Z was on a dude HP (High Potent) on a song called H.P. Gets Busy in 86 ruclips.net/video/Mt1KxZBpU5c/видео.html&ab_channel=BobSeger1981
Yeah Jay was on alot of stuff before this... early 90's with Jaz-O then with the group Original Flavor.
I was waiting for this one for soooo long !
That’s wassup! Another one from the golden chronicles
I am disappointed that I hadn’t seen an episode since “code of the streets” because for some reason I thought the show ended! ✌🏽❤️
Tricks of, the trade🔥👏
DJ Premier has the voice of a Jazz legend... but, instead, he is the one of the major voices of Hip Hop...
Papschmear lol, and Shyheim - we all know he got caught up
I just noticed what looks like a Paris record (from Guerillafunk) on the shelf, dope! damn, I wish I could get a primo beat soooo bad lol
