Excellent video. I need to make a better shooting board one of these days. I also use mineral spirits on hardwood end grain to soften the fibers and lube the shooting plane.
The shoulder you cut on the table saw was to register as a shoulder?
Also for Christmas this year my son and daughter-in-law gifted a cutting gauge from Hamilton Woodworks. Such a dream to use

is that shooting board plane worth the money? I've been trying to use my 5 1/2 on my shooting board, but it's not easy on end grain. I've been wondering if the shooting board specific plane would make it easier or if I just need to work on my technique more.

The shooting plane definitely makes a difference, mostly because of the skewed iron. Veritas also has the set screws which hold the iron in place and make it a breeze to reposition after sharpening.
