Family Game Table - Build Process

  • This is a walnut table, countertop height with a 5' by 5' top. Total build time was approximately 200 hours. I designed it based on some ideas and pictures provided by the client, and did the mock-up in Shapr3D. The overall dimensions were there and some basic construction concepts, but the build process was a lot of figuring out the details as I went along. Having the legs set at a 45 degree angle definitely added a bit of extra work throughout. I had fun with this one and learned a lot, but I'm happy it's finally delivered - this one took up quite a bit of shop real estate!

The way you attached those legs and the ebony drawer pulls just made my day. 👌

Thanks, brother 👍👊 Yeah, allowing that 5’ top to “float” over the base - and the 4 drawers in the apron - was a bit of a challenge. Thanks for reaching out!

Absolutely stunning Ben. I love how methodical you are with the fine details, though subtle, those details make an impact on the overall design.

That came out great. Going to be trying something like that soon. Those knobs are brilliant. Hope you’re ok with me using that idea.

Appreciate it! The key to success with those knobs is the drill press trick and doing the top chamfers with the shooting board. The first time I made these I cut them out on the scroll saw, then spent HOURS sanding them. 🙄 Good luck! I’d like to see how they turn out - hit me up on Instagram @cleancutwoodworks
