I said this on another comment but if I didn’t play, watch, or read something that had a shitty person attached I would have interacted with just about zero pieces of media in my life. Awful people are on every project and the rest of the team doesn’t deserve their game bombing due to one asshole.
Well if what was said is true in any regard then I'm not interested. And LGBT is one of the tags, so it very well could be. Almost like another game that flopped recently. That art director may have saved a lot of money for people. As for me the pronouns was already pushing it, I am waiting to see what the game has to offer in reviews now. If it's a quarter as bad as Veilguard then I won't be playing. Thank you art director who couldn't be quiet, you saved me 70 dollars I may have regretted spending.
@ tags aren’t company made it’s added by the community, it got brigaded during the controversy and added to try and kneecap the game. I personally have no issue with LGBT people or pronouns so that wouldnt be enough to stop me from buying it. All previews have been overwhelmingly positive even from non legacy gaming media, so it’s looking like it will be good hopefully and that matters more to me than one guy on a project.
@@acleaver1874 Veilguard had good previews as well, but it was super woke and just a bad game. Until you see it with your own eyes on full release you can't trust previews. Maybe things will line up, but I really have lost trust in gaming media and people who accept invites to previews. I'll wait and see, maybe I'm wrong and it's just the pronoun selection and nothing else. But until I know I ain't bout to spend a single minute playing.
@@celiafrostborn See that's the problem, Veilguard, believe it or not, is not actually that woke. It has a Character Creator that lets you have options that could be considered woke (but I've never really felt like complaining about MORE customization in my character creator so) and it has one optional quest about a character being non-binary, but that's basically it. The game in general is just sorta a normal game other than that. It's less woke than Baldur's gate 3 for sure. My issue with this culture war is that any sign of wokeness, no matter how small (like pronouns in a character creator) immediately makes the game woke.

What's ironic is on the conservative side one of the common talking points is wanting "regular good games with no politics" but don't care when those politics align with their own and judge games based on their politics instead of game quality. Meaning more mid games will come out and are accepted because they align with the politics of these people. Prime example of this is stellar blade in what world does stellar blade deserve as much hype as it got, when DMC, nier, sekiro, and bayonetta still exist? But because it had goon bait and no gay characters it's getting 10 out of 10s in that crowd, when in reality its more like a 6/10 being generous, but I guess the lack of black people, gays or any other minorities bumps it up a few points.
They are 98% bots farming engagement. Half the people you interact with aren't even real anymore. Ignore them like the 2% who are real and just want attention for being trash.
I know the drama between the art director really killed the hype for a lot of people, which i do think its a shame for a good that actually looks great. For me im excited for this!!

Given the state of many games at launch the notion of paying more for a product that will have more bugs than later versions seems crazy to me...but if you love the game then thats fine too

Despite this sad yet hilarious shitshow around Matt Hansen, this game truly looks amazing now. When they revealed the first trailer, I, like many others, was so incredibly disappointed. As a long-time fan of Obsidian who played Kotor 2 as a 15 year old kiddo, i teuly felt really unsatisfied with what i was seeing from one of my favourite studios ever. But, like Carrie Patel even back then promised was, that this game will be stunning and that they are pressing the right buttons for some time already to work on exactly the issues the audience was bothering with. Somehow i thought this might be a lie to improve their PR. But as it looks, this is just a fckn great game. Also when you look into the faces, especially eyes of every single Obsidian Dev who is talking about the game, you can see a truly honest and upright satisfaction, pride and happiness that only occurs when youre truly knew, what you created. Sure, Launch could be a mess, because Obsidian is not the most versatile studio when it comes to polish and performance, but content-wise I truly have no doubts anymore. They delivered not one single bad game in 21 years. And I honestly dint think that one guy called Matt Hansen is capable od screwing this up. I mean, how long is he working at Obsidian? 11 years? I guess this would've happened already years ago. Anyway, if there is one dude being responsible for maybe too few sales, it is him. He completely ruined the PR and he is an evil human I guess. But hey: I did a preorder. The first after Cyberpunk! Cant wait.
I hope that Avowed is a really fun game! It is a shame about the bad PR that’s happened but I hope that they can still deliver a fun experience. Not much longer now!

Other games that had "Pronouns" - Cyberpunk 2077, one of the best games ever made - Baldurs Gate 3, one of the best games ever made - Starfield, one of the worst games ever made, but still sold incredibly well. Everyone claiming that avowed will fail because of "pronouns" doesnt understand how the world works. 90% of gamers dont even see the weird shit that goes down on twitter, just you guys. As in, the ones who werent even going to buy the game to begin with. We just want fun games, and Avowed looks like a fun game. @JoshLevelsUp I actually like to levy Hogwarts Legacy against the "anti woke" crowd in reference to this game. They were the ones defending that game when the woke folk were trying to boycott it, talking about "separate art from artist" and all that. But now, suddenly, their tune has changed since they can use it as ammo. It's sad but not surprising. I am a big advocate of separating the art from the artist. I don't agree with J.K. Rowling or Matt whatever his name is, but Hogwarts was good fun and Avowed will be too 👍
Even if it’s not fully open world anymore, it’s still heavy on exploration of a sweet world. I can’t justify $60/70 on games anymore, but I’ll definitely pick it up during a sale

Excited for this title, haven't taken the time to dive into the Pillars series... i love Obsidian for what they do: great single player AA experiences. We need more bold AA and even indie experiences. I find the open world space bloated, I'd rather a denser zone based system these days tbh. Can't wait to play this game

Yes, it can be played in 3rd person. They’ve shown a little 3rd person but it is primarily designed to be played in first, similar to Skyrim. May be some wonky things in 3rd lol.

Playing on Game Pass from day one, I've absolutely fallen in love with Skyrim. And from seeing all gameplays and previews, Avowed seems to be the first game since Skyrim's 2011 release that truly captures the essence of an Elder Scrolls single-player experience. So excited, I beleive it's gonna be a great game and I'm gonna have so much fun playing it.
Kingdom Come 2 is going to be super interesting but nothing in February is half as appealing to me as Avowed. And no matter when Obsidian say that Outer Worlds isn’t open world and it isn’t Fallout in space and Avowed isn’t Skyrim and it’s not open world, everyone is looking at Avowed to see what a modern take on Skyrim could be like. Just like many of us and retrospectives still often compare Outer Worlds to Fallout so to will we all very directly think about Skyrim and its systems when we play this.
That is true. It’s hard to not think back to Skyrim. It’s one of my favorite games of all time. Biggest difference is world design and scale. Skyrim is huge while Avowed is more compact.
My issue with Outer worlds was the juvenile writing with very little nuance, it was almost always just "Corp bad no matter what" with cartoonish villains.

Comparing the two is futile beyond the surface, expect a denser zone based AA experience from Avowed. Skyrim is a AAA open world game with a fair bit of freedom. Is it my favorite elder scrolls game? No. But it's a unique experience worth having, albeit long in the tooth

the "controversy" tweet was up for 4 years and have been circulating and made fun of around codex and 4chan, but never had anyone took it as offensive to them. Now as soon as the art director had an internet fight with Elon there are hundreds of accounts commenting "hur-dur obsidian said they hated me" all other the internet. Let's be real it absolutely is a targeted campaign by a certain narcissistic billionaire who is in social network business, i.e. bot making and social engineering business The game looks awesome! Regarding the visuals it's definitely no next-gen trend setter, but what you've showcased looks just overly compressed. Great video nonetheless a lot of other small channels got intimidated by the astroturfing campaign to only focus on the fabricated controversy
@ yeah baldursgate saga and Skyrim with mods covers all that single player shananagains… shit even darksouls or Elden ring mostly single player.. years of poe1 mostly single player.. single player games are shot out and baldursgate 1 and 2 tops them all ….if they just made dragons dogma or avowed a mmo my life would be complete
I was excited for this game and optimistic... for a minute. With everything that has shaken out about the people who created it, it may or may not be a technically competent game, but these kind of people have proven utterly incapable of treating their audience with respect. It's unfortunate, because I actually liked Pillars of Eternity.

I hope this game gets a 60-120 FPS upgrade later (and better graphics). I can tell the combat is going to ALMOST scratch that itch, but low frames will be a problem with how fast paced the combat looks. The magic and melee combat look awesome though.
I'm really not happy about the lack of choice in this game! First they changed it from an isometric (which I prefer) to a skyrim type of first person! Then they dont have any romance options and you can only pick Human or Elf. Then on top of all this, you cannot be a Cypher which was the best class in Pillars of Eternity! I feel like they tried to make this game for the masses and messed it up very badly! I wish they would have just made Pillars of Eternity 3!!!
It was never isometric, reveal video of the game was first person. Initial development was to be a multilayer co-op game before Obsidian was purchased by msft and then shifted to traditional, for Obsidian, a single player rpg.

This universe is already fully fleshed out and has been for two full games of a completely different formula. Both Pillars of Eternity Games were isometric so how can you say they weren't! I am a huge Pillars fan but not as much of a Skyrim fan!!! So I would have preferred Avowed stick with Pillars Isometric viewpoint!

Nah, it's because KCD2 is set up to be amazing and unique. Avowed can be compared to Skyrim because it is a lot like Skyrim, KCD2 stands out in a cluttered market, gave game trials out an entire month early to player and the devs have said that it has been in a playable state for a long time. This game is only hit by the culture war because a dev attacked gamers, without that it probably wouldn't have gotten much attention. It's sad for Avowed that it shares a launch month with KCD2.
@MassofBiscuits well clearly that's not true, kcd 2 has been done before, in particular with kcd 1 and from the gameplay I've seen they haven't really innovated anything new. That's not a bad thing by any stretch, I don't think a sequel needs to be anything more than an expansion of what works a tweak of what didn't, but to act like kcd 2 is this new innovative form of game and that's why it's getting attention is sorta dishonest.

I actually do think it's relevant because kcd 1 didn't do that well, it did fine but it was firmly in AA sales, it wasnt a big gaming revolution like you seem to imply it was. 2. Sure. The mount and blade series is quite similar to kcd, it has emphasis on realism and simulation in a medieval setting with large open ended battles and very little handholding. Medieval dynasty is also quite similar with a keen focus on realistic medieval simulation (though it's more multiplayer focused). To a lesser extent crusader kings 3 also has similarities, while it's not first person it is a medieval sim that has a large focus on realism. Medieval sim is a whole genre of games and sure all of these games are slightly different to kcd 2, but they're as different to kcd 2 as avowed is to Skyrim. And I want clarify I'm excited for kcd 2, I played the first game at launch and loved it, I love medieval sim games. But I think a lot of people have chosen to uplift kcd 2 over other games like avowed simply for culture war reasons and I think that's sad.
@@bleesev2 KCD1 was definitely not revolutionary, it has it's own problems, KCD2 is the cultivation of Warhorses original vision and it's exciting to see it all come together. Had no clue that Mount and Blade existed, pretty excited to check it out! I agree, a lot of people are uplifting the game as a champion to take down woke games, a lot of people just echo youtubers. I have loved KCD since I saw their vision on kickstarter back in 2014 I think it was. My point is really that people have a hard time comparing games to KCD because it does a lot of things differently as comparing Avowed to Skyrim is really easy to do. But your Mount and Blade is a great comparison.

i loved PoE 1 and 2, the world they created is amazing, but I'm not sold on this one yet. I think they just needed to lean into turn based combat a bit more as it was only added onto PoE 2 after the game had been out for a while. I think Obsidian is a great studio though so I'll give it a try at some point, but probably not at launch. The "pay more to play early" thing I think started with Diablo 4? Pretty crappy imo, "pay early to find obvious bugs we missed" is how it tends to play out.
I get loving open world games, I really enjoy them as well. But there's still a lot of great games that don't fit into that open world design. Positives and negatives to both I think.
Because it was designed first as a 1st person game. That’s the primary way that the developers intended the game to be played. I believe 3rd person was likely a later development decision. And most of the advertising has been 1st person.
The "i was interested, but i dont like the graphics" comment is almost bot-like at this point. The graphics look fine. Also, what matters is how the game plays and the quality of the story.
I like how you say Blessed whilst in reality Godlikes are literally a way for the gods to keep themselves a Battery of Power if they would ever need it against other gods they can rip the souls out of their Godlikes and use their "essence" to empower themselves.
@@silaf1496Its Unreal 5, it should be very easy to mod. No mods on console may be what you're thinking of, but this game will 100% have mods. Just no creation kit like skyrim.
It started developing as a single player skyrim like/size AAA game. Costs and bad development hell, the game team was changed. The game moved to a more Outer world AA size game. Less rpg elements,races,no classes, crafting etc I get your just repeating the current teams views/PR but its completely wrong how the first three years of the game development went. At the moment its more a shadow of the original promises, still outer worlds was okay. So maybe it will have fun gameplay and be a worth the time. The art style/colours is not very comfortable to watch on the videos. Again a massive change from the original trailer. I'll play it on game pass after watching reviews. Hopefully be it will fun. Going in with doubts and low bar will be important with this one.

Great video, I wouldn't call it in depth but it gives me a good idea about the game... But sadly this game isn't for me, the art director made it clear it wasn't for me, and he wants to make me uncomfortable. I don't like the idea of that. Sad. I really liked pillars of eternity 1-2
We should generate a petition that requires games studios to change their current name once 50% or more of it's founding/senior staff quit, retire or are otherwise separated from said studios.
We are finished wit that, after their unacceptable behavior I and many of my friends have uninstalled preinstall from gamepass, even if its free our precious time is worthy. If they convince us that it is straight content and finish it so we can play from isometric or third person view we can consider, first person many of us designers doesn't call immersive but unfinished, only fp zoom sometimes if needed is ok.
It looks good, also that they included 3rd person view is great too since i hate FPS. However, i think i'd of preferred to play it on a PS5 as its my console of choice. I do have an XBX Series S, but that console struggles with games more demanding like Starfield and Avowed.
I hope Avowed will come to PS5 in the future! I'm glad they have the 3rd person mode as well. I enjoy being able to look at my character from time to time.

Despite this sad yet hilarious shitshow around Matt Hansen, this game truly looks amazing now. When they revealed the first trailer, I, like many others, was so incredibly disappointed. As a long-time fan of Obsidian who played Kotor 2 as a 15 year old kiddo, i teuly felt really unsatisfied with what i was seeing from one of my favourite studios ever. But, like Carrie Patel even back then promised was, that this game will be stunning and that they are pressing the right buttons for some time already to work on exactly the issues the audience was bothering with. Somehow i thought this might be a lie to improve their PR. But as it looks, this is just a fckn great game. Also when you look into the faces, especially eyes of every single Obsidian Dev who is talking about the game, you can see a truly honest and upright satisfaction, pride and happiness that only occurs when youre truly knew, what you created. Sure, Launch could be a mess, because Obsidian is not the most versatile studio when it comes to polish and performance, but content-wise I truly have no doubts anymore. They delivered not one single bad game in 21 years. And I honestly dint think that one guy called Matt Hansen is capable od screwing this up. I mean, how long is he working at Obsidian? 11 years? I guess this would've happened already years ago.
Anyway, if there is one dude being responsible for maybe too few sales, it is him. He completely ruined the PR and he is an evil human I guess.
But hey: I did a preorder. The first after Cyberpunk! Cant wait.

Everyone claiming that avowed will fail because of "pronouns" doesnt understand how the world works. 90% of gamers dont even see the weird shit that goes down on twitter, just you guys. As in, the ones who werent even going to buy the game to begin with.

@JoshLevelsUp I actually like to levy Hogwarts Legacy against the "anti woke" crowd in reference to this game. They were the ones defending that game when the woke folk were trying to boycott it, talking about "separate art from artist" and all that.
But now, suddenly, their tune has changed since they can use it as ammo. It's sad but not surprising. I am a big advocate of separating the art from the artist. I don't agree with J.K. Rowling or Matt whatever his name is, but Hogwarts was good fun and Avowed will be too 👍

Excited for this title, haven't taken the time to dive into the Pillars series... i love Obsidian for what they do: great single player AA experiences. We need more bold AA and even indie experiences. I find the open world space bloated, I'd rather a denser zone based system these days tbh. Can't wait to play this game

Playing on Game Pass from day one, I've absolutely fallen in love with Skyrim. And from seeing all gameplays and previews, Avowed seems to be the first game since Skyrim's 2011 release that truly captures the essence of an Elder Scrolls single-player experience. So excited, I beleive it's gonna be a great game and I'm gonna have so much fun playing it.

Kingdom Come 2 is going to be super interesting but nothing in February is half as appealing to me as Avowed.
And no matter when Obsidian say that Outer Worlds isn’t open world and it isn’t Fallout in space and Avowed isn’t Skyrim and it’s not open world, everyone is looking at Avowed to see what a modern take on Skyrim could be like.
Just like many of us and retrospectives still often compare Outer Worlds to Fallout so to will we all very directly think about Skyrim and its systems when we play this.
That is true. It’s hard to not think back to Skyrim. It’s one of my favorite games of all time. Biggest difference is world design and scale. Skyrim is huge while Avowed is more compact.
My issue with Outer worlds was the juvenile writing with very little nuance, it was almost always just "Corp bad no matter what" with cartoonish villains.

Comparing the two is futile beyond the surface, expect a denser zone based AA experience from Avowed. Skyrim is a AAA open world game with a fair bit of freedom. Is it my favorite elder scrolls game? No. But it's a unique experience worth having, albeit long in the tooth

I was excited for this game and optimistic... for a minute. With everything that has shaken out about the people who created it, it may or may not be a technically competent game, but these kind of people have proven utterly incapable of treating their audience with respect. I'm sorry, I'm just not going to play a game full of the ideological browbeating that crusty white guy assured the public the game would be full of. I would rather just play through New Vegas again. It's unfortunate, because I actually liked Pillars of Eternity.

I hope this game gets a 60-120 FPS upgrade later (and better graphics). I can tell the combat is going to ALMOST scratch that itch, but low frames will be a problem with how fast paced the combat looks. The magic and melee combat look awesome though.
Hopefully the performance can be good! That’s brought many great games down. But I hope they can get it dialed in!

I'm really not happy about the lack of choice in this game! First they changed it from an isometric (which I prefer) to a skyrim type of first person! Then they dont have any romance options and you can only pick Human or Elf. Then on top of all this, you cannot be a Cypher which was the best class in Pillars of Eternity! I feel like they tried to make this game for the masses and messed it up very badly! I wish they would have just made Pillars of Eternity 3!!!
It was never isometric, reveal video of the game was first person. Initial development was to be a multilayer co-op game before Obsidian was purchased by msft and then shifted to traditional, for Obsidian, a single player rpg.

Both Pillars of Eternity Games were isometric so how can you say they weren't! I am a huge Pillars fan but not as much of a Skyrim fan!!! So I would have preferred Avowed stick with Pillars Isometric viewpoint!
I think it was made to be for a wider audience for sure. I know the Pillars games are great but I’ve never played as it’s not necessarily my style of game. I like that we’re getting a different way of accessing the world, but I wish some of the those features were in there for sure.

It's sad that the culture war touches every game these days. People never judge a game about whether it's good or not, it's either GOOD because it validates your culture views or BAD because it invalidates them.
It's on both sides, but lately it's more the "anti-woke" crowd that have been the most obnoxious (I've seen a bunch of people literally telling people that they will buy KCD2 instead of avowed JUST to send a message in the culture war, irrespective of the quality of game. FYI I'm planning on buying both games).
Nah, it's because KCD2 is set up to be amazing and unique. Avowed can be compared to Skyrim because it is a lot like Skyrim, KCD2 stands out in a cluttered market, gave game trials out an entire month early to player and the devs have said that it has been in a playable state for a long time. This game is only hit by the culture war because a dev attacked gamers, without that it probably wouldn't have gotten much attention. It's sad for Avowed that it shares a launch month with KCD2.
@MassofBiscuits well clearly that's not true, kcd 2 has been done before, in particular with kcd 1 and from the gameplay I've seen they haven't really innovated anything new. That's not a bad thing by any stretch, I don't think a sequel needs to be anything more than an expansion of what works a tweak of what didn't, but to act like kcd 2 is this new innovative form of game and that's why it's getting attention is sorta dishonest.

@MassofBiscuits will for 1. I actually do think it's relevant because kcd 1 didn't do that well, it did fine but it was firmly in AA sales, it wasnt a big gaming revolution like you seem to imply it was.
2. Sure. The mount and blade series is quite similar to kcd, it has emphasis on realism and simulation in a medieval setting with large open ended battles and very little handholding. Medieval dynasty is also quite similar with a keen focus on realistic medieval simulation (though it's more multiplayer focused). To a lesser extent crusader kings 3 also has similarities, while it's not first person it is a medieval sim that has a large focus on realism.
Medieval sim is a whole genre of games and sure all of these games are slightly different to kcd 2, but they're as different to kcd 2 as avowed is to Skyrim.
And I want clarify I'm excited for kcd 2, I played the first game at launch and loved it, I love medieval sim games. But I think a lot of people have chosen to uplift kcd 2 over other games like avowed simply for culture war reasons and I think that's sad.

I agree, a lot of people are uplifting the game as a champion to take down woke games, a lot of people just echo youtubers. I have loved KCD since I saw their vision on kickstarter back in 2014 I think it was.
My point is really that people have a hard time comparing games to KCD because it does a lot of things differently as comparing Avowed to Skyrim is really easy to do. But your Mount and Blade is a great comparison.

i loved PoE 1 and 2, the world they created is amazing, but I'm not sold on this one yet. I think they just needed to lean into turn based combat a bit more as it was only added onto PoE 2 after the game had been out for a while. I think Obsidian is a great studio though so I'll give it a try at some point, but probably not at launch. The "pay more to play early" thing I think started with Diablo 4? Pretty crappy imo, "pay early to find obvious bugs we missed" is how it tends to play out.

Not open world?........I'm out!
I get loving open world games, I really enjoy them as well. But there's still a lot of great games that don't fit into that open world design. Positives and negatives to both I think.
why do people keep calling this game a 1st person game when it has 3rd person aswell
Because it was designed first as a 1st person game. That’s the primary way that the developers intended the game to be played. I believe 3rd person was likely a later development decision. And most of the advertising has been 1st person.

The "i was interested, but i dont like the graphics" comment is almost bot-like at this point. The graphics look fine. Also, what matters is how the game plays and the quality of the story.
I like how you say Blessed whilst in reality Godlikes are literally a way for the gods to keep themselves a Battery of Power if they would ever need it against other gods they can rip the souls out of their Godlikes and use their "essence" to empower themselves.

@@silaf1496Its Unreal 5, it should be very easy to mod. No mods on console may be what you're thinking of, but this game will 100% have mods. Just no creation kit like skyrim.
Haven’t heard anything in the way of mods. But on PC you can almost guarantee there will be some.
It started developing as a single player skyrim like/size AAA game.
Costs and bad development hell, the game team was changed.
The game moved to a more Outer world AA size game. Less rpg elements,races,no classes, crafting etc
I get your just repeating the current teams views/PR but its completely wrong how the first three years of the game development went.
At the moment its more a shadow of the original promises, still outer worlds was okay. So maybe it will have fun gameplay and be a worth the time.
The art style/colours is not very comfortable to watch on the videos. Again a massive change from the original trailer.
I'll play it on game pass after watching reviews. Hopefully be it will fun. Going in with doubts and low bar will be important with this one.

Great video, I wouldn't call it in depth but it gives me a good idea about the game... But sadly this game isn't for me, the art director made it clear it wasn't for me, and he wants to make me uncomfortable. I don't like the idea of that. Sad. I really liked pillars of eternity 1-2
We should generate a petition that requires games studios to change their current name once 50% or more of it's founding/senior staff quit, retire or are otherwise separated from said studios.

Pleeessseee combat looks so stiff, and reminds me of Morrowind. It's not even an open world, there is nothing special about this game.

We are finished wit that, after their unacceptable behavior I and many of my friends have uninstalled preinstall from gamepass, even if its free our precious time is worthy. If they convince us that it is straight content and finish it so we can play from isometric or third person view we can consider, first person many of us designers doesn't call immersive but unfinished, only fp zoom sometimes if needed is ok.
They don't have a well developed reputation anymore.
I'll probably play this eventually but I'm definitely not buying it ⛵

It looks good, also that they included 3rd person view is great too since i hate FPS. However, i think i'd of preferred to play it on a PS5 as its my console of choice. I do have an XBX Series S, but that console struggles with games more demanding like Starfield and Avowed.
I hope Avowed will come to PS5 in the future! I'm glad they have the 3rd person mode as well. I enjoy being able to look at my character from time to time.
