I felt like I'd achieved a minor victory just be getting Siril to find the scripts I'd downloaded. Imagine how chuffed I'll be when I stack my images :)
THANK YOU! This situation is one of the problems with the new "smart" telescopes: I have a Unistellar eQuinox 2 and it only takes lights and it's own version of a dark (which I THINK is really a 80s bias image - probably 20 x 4s); but I suspect that the Seestar S50, Vaonis, etc. all work the same way. As far as I'm aware their imaging software/camera control app is such that you can't "fake it out" to generate bespoke flat fields (and yeah, you'd THINK going through the entire product development process getting it to market, they'd at least talk about calibration frames in their documentation). Anyway, when you request your uploaded raw data, all you get back are the light frames, and while their auto-generated PNG files are "nice", and you can play with them in a limited way with GIMP/etc., it's still working with pre-chewed images. Figuring out how to get Siril to accept this unideal situation has been a real problem, so I appreciate you pointing us in the right direction.
I recently created a video on processing the Dwarf II images in Siril. ruclips.net/video/2k8xwQaMKmQ/видео.html Don't know if that would be helpful in anyway. That's interesting that you can only pull PNG files. I thought I saw others downloading FITS from the unit. Thanks!
It is 3:15am here in the UK and after this tutorial (where I just didn`t take any calibration frames), I nearly fell off my chair when I saw my black image turn into M51 whirlpool galaxy! Thank you so much. Only issue I have is that I shot using a dedicated cooled colour astro camera in FITS format. In only get B&W as an option, no RGB tab like you get. Any idea what I need to do to solve this? Thanks again, going to bed very happy!!

Siril needs to detect at least 6 stars in the images I believe. If your stars are faint or elongated, that could be the issue. You could also try to adjust star detection on one of the images before running the script. I don't yet gave a video on that, so you'll need to search on how to use it. It's in the menu in the top-right, Image Information, Dynamic PSF.
What kind of images do you have in your LIGHTs file? something called CR3? I have .fits files. That's what my problem is. Siril is not happy with fits files! it is asking for "RAW" images. I don't know what those are. My Dwarf produces RAW folders but not RAW files/images.
Those images were taken with my Canon, so that is the raw file format (.cr3) from that camera. Siril handles fits files. That's the format that all astronomy cameras use.

You only need one folder for this script, and it needs to be named lights. Then set your working directory to the folder where there you placed the lights folder in. So for example, C:\DSOName\Lights. C:\DSOName would be your working directory.

Is there something new? I tried OSC_Preprocessing_WithoutDBF.ssf and it didn't work... I'm new to Siril and I don't know hat I did wrong. It was written in red "This command is deprecated: calibrate should be used instead.". I tried doing it manually as well (I have lights and actually some darks) but I failed there as well... What can I do?
@@DeepSpaceAstro ah, and I changed the threshold for the roundness for the stars in the registration (as this might be the problem), but it didn't help...
ok, I took some "false" flats and biases, as I realized that those aren't depending on temperature and the script failed exactly at those two points: calibration (After dark subtraction, the image contains many negative pixels (23%), calibration frames are probably incorrect) and at registration (Found 1 stars in reference, channel #1 11:55:59: There are not enough stars in reference image to perform alignment). So I guess I won't be able to use these frames for Siril. But at least I learned some new things... :) Will continue trying...:)
can anyone advise how I can see the options of Conversion, Sequence etc. o the menu bar which is shown on this video. I have tried several versions of Siril and it never shows, but no joy
Depends what other calibration frames you do have. Here are the available scripts. gitlab.com/free-astro/siril-scripts/-/tree/main/preprocessing?ref_type=heads
I followed this step by step, threw all my nikon raw files into an astrophotography file then into a subfolder labeled "lights" and made sure the lights was lowercase, downloaded the scripts, restarted siril, reset the home to the lights folder and went to run the script and get this error : 5:45:43: Running command: cd 15:45:43: 'lights' No such file or directory 15:45:43: Error in line 18 ('cd'): generic error."

Move all of your fits files from the Dwarf into your Orion\Lights folder. Just the files. It looks like you may have have folder in there named Dwarf_RAW that contains your fits files. That's why the script fails.
Make sure your home directory is set correctly. For example, if your Lights directory is here C:\Images\Lights then your home directory needs to be set to C:\Images not C:\Images\Lights. If that's not what you're having issues with, then what errors are you seeing in the console?
I assure you there's nothing wrong with the software. I can help you, but I need to know what the details of the error are. It will say that below the error, so paste that in your reply. I'm guessing you don't have your working directory set correctly, but I can't tell without knowing what caused the error.

Ok you're running the script from this video, right? The one for just processing lights? Open each of the images in Siril that have the Normalization failed error. i.e. r_light_00007.fit, and set the display mode to Autostretch. Do they look correct?
Is there something new? I tried OSC_Preprocessing_WithoutDBF.ssf and it didn't work... I'm new to Siril and I don't know hat I did wrong. It was written in red "This command is deprecated: calibrate should be used instead.". I tried doing it manually as well (I have lights and actually some darks) but I failed there as well... What can I do?
The deprecated message is just a warning and can be ignored. I'll need more information on what you mean by "failing" to try and help.
@@DeepSpaceAstro ah, and I changed the threshold for the roundness for the stars in the registration (as this might be the problem), but it didn't help...
and I don't have a tracker (had one, but doesn't work anymore). Perhaps it just doesn't work with images this noisy anyway....
ok, I took some "false" flats and biases, as I realized that those aren't depending on temperature and the script failed exactly at those two points: calibration (After dark subtraction, the image contains many negative pixels (23%), calibration frames are probably incorrect) and at registration (Found 1 stars in reference, channel #1
11:55:59: There are not enough stars in reference image to perform alignment).
Look all the way to the right, there's a thin bar, and in the middle you'll see an arrow pointing left. Click it.
@@DeepSpaceAstro Thank you
Is there a script to stack without biases?
Depends what other calibration frames you do have. Here are the available scripts. gitlab.com/free-astro/siril-scripts/-/tree/main/preprocessing?ref_type=heads
I followed this step by step, threw all my nikon raw files into an astrophotography file then into a subfolder labeled "lights" and made sure the lights was lowercase, downloaded the scripts, restarted siril, reset the home to the lights folder and went to run the script and get this error : 5:45:43: Running command: cd
15:45:43: 'lights' No such file or directory
15:45:43: Error in line 18 ('cd'): generic error."
Your home folder in Siril needs to be the parent folder of your lights subfolder.
Thanks, helpful, but please turn off the constant clicking mouse sound, omg.
Lol . My last couple videos have it turned off now.
my script execution failed
can u lemme know why?
What's the error you see in the console?
I don’t have the “pre processing” section
The Pre-Processing tab on the right? Is that the only one missing?
@@DeepSpaceAstro yes, idk if it’s a version issue, but I have the latest version.
@@JonathanMyron It's been renamed to Calibration. Latest version 1.2.4
@@DeepSpaceAstro ohhh, I see, thank you!
I didn't get a result file although
Any errors in the console screen? The file would be created in your working directory.
I've seen it say 11 images discarded 1 image used@@DeepSpaceAstro
Well ontop of that i use a non tracking dobsonian and most of the pictures are out of alignment is that why??
Yeah if it couldn't identify the stars then it can't stack the result file. You probably have errors in the console
On top on that i'm in a super light polluted place@@DeepSpaceAstro
how to do it on a Mac?
I don't have a Mac but the procedure should be the same.
@@DeepSpaceAstro oh ok thx ill try

Great video but just a suggestion - get a new mouse or somehow find a way to get rid of the distracting (and IMO annoying) clicks of the mouse.
Mouse movements on a barely visible screen could give me a stroke

I don't have "raw" images, I have .fits . So I'm confused.
Move all of your fits files from the Dwarf into your Orion\Lights folder. Just the files. It looks like you may have have folder in there named Dwarf_RAW that contains your fits files. That's why the script fails.
Fits are raw images

Same as before.
Your working directory need to be set to Orion, not Lights
What is Siri, and will it work on Windows 10? Google won’t help me, thinks I’m asking about Syria haha.
It's software for stacking and processing astrophotography. Looks like you spelled Siril wrong for your search. There's an L at the end.
I’m missing something these scripts are totally not working
Make sure your home directory is set correctly. For example, if your Lights directory is here C:\Images\Lights then your home directory needs to be set to C:\Images not C:\Images\Lights. If that's not what you're having issues with, then what errors are you seeing in the console?
@@DeepSpaceAstro is current working directory different than home directory?
@@TheTeaguecowley It's what you set with the blue house button.
It says “‘lights’ no such file or directory “
Ah, I figured it out. I had a / within the name of a directory
Isn't a guide to processing, just stacking. and Just stacking as a test.
Apologies, I didn't mean to imply any processing. That's why the title just says stacking. 🤷♂️

Honestly when will someone create a program that doesn't fucking suck honestly. DSS problems, Siril problems. I give up.
I assure you there's nothing wrong with the software. I can help you, but I need to know what the details of the error are. It will say that below the error, so paste that in your reply. I'm guessing you don't have your working directory set correctly, but I can't tell without knowing what caused the error.
