This is what I tell everyone. In turn, they call me lazy. I'm not. I'm just enlightened. Living by a clock, racing through traffic, walking through gauntlets of cold-hearted humans just isn't my thing. I'm a Nature girl.

This was really cool Julia! I just missed you on the trail in Maine. I was back home for a week, and July 16th was doing a day hike in Rangeley at the heighth of the land, Bald Mountain, and on the trail some. Your adventure was very inspiring and indeed EPIC! Way to go! I miss my home state of Maine, it is beautiful there. I hope you enjoyed it! On To the next adventure!

Julia: Thanks for your videos. This year marks the 40th anniversary of my thru hike. You brought tears to my eyes. My take: The AT stays the same. You walk -- until you get where you need to be. By the way, both sides of my family are from Johnstown, Pa. Live, girl.
Peace -- Bruce Reid, Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Really well done job, both with your videos of the trip, to getting (basically) out of debt prior the trip, to actually following through on the idea to do a through hike so quickly after getting the idea. I have hiked portions of the AT off and on over the past 20 years but doubt my knees could survive the whole thing as a through hike at my age. Bravo for tackling this while you are young and able bodied.

Great Video! I watched your AT full video and the Q&A video as well. All well done and fast paced. Brevity is the soul of wit and you capture that perfectly in your video delivery. I really admire someone who has the guts to go ahead and chase a dream. You will forever remember the great times that you had on your journey. Thanks for sharing your experiences with all of us. Ignore the idiots who make superficial comments as they have never done anything of substance or merit. Congratulations on your accomplishments!!!

Awesome vid and great to see you here again. Like I told you awhile back, you were my favorite this year. I still have few more hikers that I'm watching but, you've came in first place 👍👍. Can't wait to see what you have coming up in the future. If you're ever back down in GA hit me up for some day hikes. I'm at work right now and am literally about 6-8 miles from Springer (as the crow flies). I'm a paramedic/firefighter and luckily the station I work out of is the closest one there is to Springer so, needless to say, I'm fortunate to be able to hit the AT often! Anyway, thanks for another great vid!!

Thanks, Rocket. My wife and I have enjoyed your vlogs. I've been section hiking for over 30 years, doing the Long Trail along the way, and was watching many other vloggers this year before discovering your channel. You were upbeat, positive, informative and genuinely open about the downs, ups, and in-betweens. It's a wonder how I managed to not subscribe until today. I like the way that you skirted the "romance" question. 😊 You don't HAVE to tell ANYTHING, and, being a vlogger, you deserve the right to have your own private life. Kudos to you for your completion. Now you are a TRUE "Thruhiker," and not a hopeful "Thrubie." We are looking forward to joining you on your next adventure. I plan on finishing the AT in the next couple of years, and, maybe, attempt a thruhike of the PCT when my wife retires, if I'm still capable at 70 something. Take care and God bless. ☺

Hello! I, too, live in Pittsburgh. I have hiked 1,469 AT miles so far. I hike in about 400-500 mile sections every spring. This year I hiked NJ, NY and got off at Kent CT when I took a nasty fall. I hope to finish my hike next spring. I’ll be 70 years old and figure it will be an awesome finish! I live in Stanton Heights and would love to meet up for a beer and trade trail stories sometime.

You have a very real and a very natural way of expressing yourself. My husband and I watched your A.P. hike and it seems very difficult, but also it shows just how strong we all really are if we don't give up. We are going to do the Camino de Santiago in Spain this May. For me it will be challenging because I am not 25 anymore! haha!! Anyhow, i listened to your post trail video and you went through a bit of depression, as you said. I can understand that. We crave adventure and excitement to satisfy a deep loneliness that always seems to leave us when we are deep in adventure and return when we are back in our routines of life, but don't ever forget that as a fellow nurse, where would your patients be if you left behind your skills as a nurse and just sought out adventure for the rest of your days. The adventure revives us, but it is the compassion that you have for others that is your true calling. I too, have anxiety issues, or maybe I should say, used to have anxiety. It was so bad that I started having panic attacks. But if I may, I would like to say that my faith has sustained me in a way I never expected. I believe that we all carry an emptiness that only the creator of this world can fill. You went on your hike to seek out a purpose and you found an inner strength, but where did this strength come from. I believe it comes from somewhere so deep, it takes courage to even admit that just maybe it is from Him. My faith was not very strong most of my life, i never really let in the truth I had heard all my life. Then in a moment of desperation and difficulty, when my marriage of 27 years was almost over and my 5 children were all devastated, instead of giving it all up and throwing away so many years together, I surrendered. Let me just say something that really changed the way I look at life and people. I can't change my past, and I can't change people. But I can change my present and future and I can control my response to people who seem to want to bring me down. I can say that now I choose love over hate, peace over war, marriage over divorce, forgiveness over resentment ( because forgiveness heals me, not only the offending person), I choose to fight (peacefully of course) for all the things that matter in my life. One thing that Jesus taught me is that true love never fails, it never gives up and it never holds a grudge. Love always finds a way to mend, heal and seek out peace. That is now my focus in life. A book that really gave me a sense of truth that God really does hear me, is the book named, THE CASE FOR CHRIST! Yes, it was made into a movie, but it does not compare to the book. This guy really set out to destroy Jesus and all of those who believe, (he was a total atheist), but let's just say, God had other plans for him. He has a plan for you too, I pray that this message speaks to you, and helps guide you to a peace that surpasses all understanding. Just imagine all of those breathtaking views you saw on your hike, now imagine the Creator who created it all..... God Bless You!!!
    Lisa

Finished my hike of the AT this year only had 650 miles to go. Got on in Massachusetts May 8, got to Katahdin June 23. Took 2 zero days and several Nearo days. Just keep plugging and you’ll get there. Been doing “long hikes”(500+ miles) on the AT since 2004 and the most important thing I’ve learned is...eat, eat, eat, and learn to deal with some pain/discomfort. All at thru hike consists of is a series of 3-4 day hikes.
Ps was #13 to submit Katahdin nobo this year

Great videos... Watched your thru-hike video last night. I work at an REI and outfit about a dozen people a year who are attempting it. Glad to see your hiking video was NOT all about the gear! As far as next? You should consider another long trail... or do a cross country bicycle trip. (I've done a few of those too...) thank you again for your great work!

Great vid, as always. I would buy your book if you write one. I still have a lot to learn, even at 70.

We just took a long weekend in Franklin NC Feb 28 - March 1st, We saw a couple hikers already there...You are right its freaking cold up there now, we had snow and with winds it can cut you like a knife...But if I was your age Id go for it...I did not discover the AT till a few years ago and joint issues have stopped me from any real distance hikes...Lifes short, keep living it like you are on your terms because "Someday never comes"
